I teach Intro to Psych and even after covering anecdotal evidence (assigned reading last week), I've still got students accepting it and offering it. Sigh. So your vid is required watching this week. Thank you!

good luck, if politics and socialist movements proves anything then they still won't understand it.

We need a new term. "Anecdotal evidence" as that term precisely describes can lead to the observation stage. There is a behavior in society that tries to make factoids out of one example, but the term "anecdotal evidence" by itself doesn't know how to count.

We should be open minded in that case. we can consider "Anecdotal Evidence" as a "case study"; which could be an antecedent for farther research. Hence, a positive view of that case is so important. instead of describing it as "bad".

Would you be able to say anadotal evidence is usually a good basis to form a hypothesis to test.?

      You are skipping a stage.

what if I base my explanation or facts on a sample over too short period of time. Given that I should have sampled over longer time. Would it also be a sort of anecdotal evidence?

There is a mistake in your logic. You are assuming there is a sample size is only one. If 40,00 people in a small town individually report the same symptoms, that is anecdotal evidence (Later compiled), but the GP has the grounds to go to scientific observation. There is a social behavior like what you described. I call it "One fluke does not make a rule." I see it when somebody who reports sharing my disability tries to claim that everybody with that disability can achieve something only on the basis of the idea that that individual did it.

What is really frustrating is how many times I've seen people call everything "anecdotal evidence" without understanding what "anecdotal evidence" is.

You just said sample and example way too many times and now my brain hurts 🤯🫠
