💜FYI - this is how they conceptualised the song: They created a very old and sad story called, 'La Città di Smeraldo' that takes place in a small town in Italy ( in the 16th Century -1500's). The story's about an 'ugly' man who hid in an old castle alone, even though he was a gentle good person, because of his looks he received lots of hate & cruelty while growing up. He never opened his heart to anyone. Eventually if anyone tried to approach him, he covered his deformed face with a mask and hid in fear, ...So he became bitter and angry. His one happiness in life was to plant beautiful flowers in his walled off garden.
One night a woman appeared near the man's castle. She jumped over the garden fence and stole a flower. This angered the man at first. So he watched his garden all night. But when he fell asleep, the woman took another flower. This continued for several nights. The man pretended to be asleep and watched the woman steal a flower. He started becoming curious about the woman. He began waiting for her. Without realizing he started waiting for her to come and each day began to seem a little brighter.
Following after her one day he realized that she was selling the flowers that she stole from him to try to make a living. The man falling in love so desperately wanted to help the woman. But he was afraid she would be terrified by the way he looks if he approached her. He 'knew' she would never be able love his 'grotesque' appearance. He came to a conclusion that the only way he would be able to help her is to keep himself hidden and let her continue stealing flowers from his garden. The man decided to make a flower that doesn't exist on the planet. So that the woman could sell them at a expensive price. He began to create the flower in his castle.
After many unsuccessful attempts, the man created the most beautiful of all flowers (The Smeraldo Flower) and filled his garden with these beautiful flowers. But the woman stopped coming. No matter how long he waited she never came back to his garden. He eventually found out that the woman had starved to death before he could give her the flower that would have saved her. If only he had been brave enough to approach her😭
The smeraldo flower plays a part in the Bangtan Universe storyline, and you will see it in various MVs.

My grandmother used to tell me this story many many many ago when I was about 6years old that's over 50years ago. So I guess when I heard the song now your explaination it must have been constructed around a very old story.

oh Jin really suprised me. His range is WILD hey?! 💜💜
I never really noticed Jin's voice until "House of Cards". I was new to BTS and I randomly watched their UA-cam videos. No song I listened to really featured Jin. So when I heard Jin sing just 2 words I fell in Love with his voice. "No way, no way, no way." And I do recognize the exceptional singing by the other 3. Stunningly Exquisite harmonies. But Jin possesses a skill the others don't have. He can belt. It's singing in your head voice while using the power in your chest voice. Coming from a musical theatre background I Know Jin could take over Broadway with his "silver" voice and captivating acting skills. But he doesn't want to pursue that....yet. Jin was asked and he said maybe later. But he just wants to continue with BTS and sing and perform with them. I like to mention this over and over. At Jin's first voice lesson with his voice teacher, he told her "I can't sing!". But somehow she discovered his amazing voice and "pulled" that voice out of him. There is a special technique vocal teacher's use to discover your hidden talent. Taking voice lessons myself my voice teacher helped me find out I really was a soprano not an alto. Just imagine when Jin discovered he really could sing! The voice teacher said Jin became her all time favorite student because he worked so hard. Well, it paid off. He is now recognized as a wonderful part of BTS's vocal line. Amazing. Kind of like a little miracle. BTS would Not be BTS without Jin and his velvet voice!
Jin has fewer lines than the others especially in their old songs. Have you heard Jin's solo song? He is my bias and I'm happy when someone recognizes his talents. Explore his solo songs and please watch their variety shows you'll get to know their personality. 💜

Wow, I haven't heard that word "belt" in decades, and you pegged it. My dad (he would have been 100 this year) used to use it to describe Judy Garland, Liza Minelli, and Mama Cass's singing. Of course he loved all the old crooners too - belters. Thank you for that description.

There's a version of Truth Untold where Jimin has blonde hair, and a pink floaty shirt and the vocals in that one is so so so incredible, in the version you watched today Jimin had just been really sick a few weeks before and during the Brazil concert he even started crying and Jungkook sang his part with him and comforted him at the end of the song. Jimin and Jungkooks ending part of the song together is always my favourite part, in the SY Final concerts they even changed it up slightly where they sung part of the lyrics together

Jin really shines in their japanese songs XDDD and I love his songs "yours", "moon", and "autumn by the post office" cover. I also can't wait until tae's solo project. His past solo songs like "stigma", "christmas tree", "scenery", "winter bear", and etc.

Just today on UA-cam 2 different sources said they have heard some of V's songs from his solo album and they say they are really good. One person was JK. The other guy...not sure who he is, but had some connection to V. He said we would be blown away how good the songs are.
The first time I heard "Truth Untold", I was in my car driving to work, and had to pull over, because I was crying so hard, I couldn't see. I speak almost zero Korean, so I didn't understand the lyrics, but I definitely understood the emotion. And it hurt. A lot. Those three songs always hit me RIGHT in the feels. Thank you for sharing this experience with us. You are the best. 💜 BORAHAE!!!
Notice how my mood shifted right away hey? I felt something similar! It's something that has happened to me with a Celtic song before.. I didn't understand the lyrics, but the music hit me in a way where I just broke down..

Lol! Funny you should mention celtic music., There's a song by Seo Linn, in Gaelic, called "Óró! Se De Bheatha Baillie", that makes me want to invade a small nation. 🤣🤣🤣 It was originally written after the battle of Culloden, to hail the return of James Stuart to Scotland. If you haven't heard it, give it a listen.

The vocal line was so good in this live version of house of cards but Jin and V stood out to me vocally, there were also certain parts where Jimin was so good as well. JK was great of course as usual JK will never fail in vocals. I think overall to me some of Jimin’s parts were a highlight in this song. Also JK’s scat.

Am not sure if some Army are doing this but every end of the year what I always do is I play Zero O' Clock at exactly 11:58:30 and when the clock strikes at exact 12:00:00 of the new year Jimin will sing 'And you're gonna be happy.' and it really gives me so much hope and will that this upcoming year is gonna be a happy year whatever it may brings...💜

The Truth Untold is the song that peaked my interest in BTS. My children both love them but i am sad to say had a very narrow minded outlook and assumed i would not like KPop eithout listening. Then one day, my daughter was listening to music whilst washing dishes and from the other room i heard V's voice singing "I'm so afraid". It just captured me and i listened to the rest of the song. The emotion in their voices was captivating. It was enough for me to ask what the song was and who samg that line, and the rest is history. Nearly 3 years later i am compleyely besotted with these young men and their wish to make the world a better place through music. Thank you for this reaction. 3 of my favourite songs in one reaction. I feel spoilt in the best way. I am very impressed with your reactions and i am sorry that i am so busy with work that i have to be so late to them. You are much appreciated 💜

The truth untold is about how we want to love and be loved in return, but the speaker in the song can't get past his insecurities and self-loathing ("I'm so ugly and afraid") to allow the other person to see who really is. He wears a mask to try to be worthy of the other person's love, but he doesn't get the connection he's hoping for. by the time he's finally ready to take off the mask and meet the person he loves for real, thr chance is gone. I think in the Korean poem this song is based on, the other person actually died before the speaker could meet her without the mask.

“The Truth Untold” is based on the story of the Smeraldo flower. It's not a poem.
-In a village of northern Italy called ‘La Città di smeraldo’, there was a small secluded castle. In that castle lived a man with grotesque appearance. He was the love child of a duke from a powerful family in Florence. The duke fell in love with the daughter of his gardener and gave birth to this man. The mother of the man passed away from excessive bleeding after giving birth to him. The wife and children of the duke wanted to kill the man, so the duke sent the man away to let him escape.
The man hid himself in the old castle, lonely. probably, it was because of the hatred he received from birth and while he's growing up that he didn’t open his heart to anyone, he got angry and hid if someone tried to approach him. His only joy was growing flowers in his garden. But one day, a girl appeared near the man’s castle. The girl in ragged clothes lifted her heels, jumped over the garden fence and stole the flowers. The man got angry at first, he spent the whole night to guard the garden. But in his brief moment of sleepiness, the girl picked flowers again and ran away. It happened for several days, until one night the man pretended to fall asleep and watched the girl go. He was curious. Without realizing it, the man waited for the girl, and one day he followed her. He covered himself with a cloak and after following here the man discovered, the poor and weak girl was selling flowers for a living.
The man wanted to help the girl. He wanted to teach her every method of growing flowers he knew, he wanted to teach her how to grow beautiful flowers. But he couldn’t come forward to the girl. She would be scared of him, she wouldn’t love his grotesque appearance. In the end, the only thing he could do was to grow and take care of the flowers so she could keep coming to his garden. The man decided to make a special flower that doesn't exist in the world. He started to make a flower so that the girl could sell at an expensive price. The man shut himself in the castle to make the flower. After countless attempts, the man made a flower that never existed in the world, and filled his garden with that flower. But the girl was nowhere to be seen. No matter how much he waited, the girl wouldn’t come to his garden. The man grew concerned and went to the village with his face covered. But he discovered that the girl had already died.

I love all 3 of these songs! 00:00 is amazing and they all look incredible. The live for The Truth Untold is not my favorite. I love the live Love Yourself Tour in Japan. V does a couple runs that are spectacular with his vocal tone. Jimin's high notes always get me. Jin is so powerful and Junkook is master of adlibs, of course. The vocal line is truly top tier!

There is a progression in the albums. Truth Untold came from love yourself tear... wherein they are showing the darkness of fake love or when you can't seem o love yourself. Once you hit the album love yourself answer, it shows that they have progressed to slowly learning to love one's self. Map of the soul is a much later album which have tackled many things past their self discovery. Among those for zero o clock was to cope with the pandemic and to give people a chance to breathe during such tough times. 🥰

Their grief songs are some of my favorites. They capture the longing at the heart of loss in a way no one else has, for me. And in Truth Untold, each of them shines vocally as well. It's why we suggest it so often 😂

Then there's The Truth Untold. THE STORY BEHIND THIS SONG IS JUST🤌🤌🤌 And the silence of the crowd in the concert just soaks in the song and performance. It makes you tear up and chills up your spine. INCREDIBLE
Overall, BTS are impeccable storytellers. With every song and every performance, there is a purpose or a message, or a story that goes with it. I love it! I love them! And I love your reaction to this💜 You definitely get it 😊 Excited to see more!
BTS has several songs about and they even said it many times that how they are on stage is like wearing a mask, but they are just regular people with flaws and weaknesses and this is why they " put a mask on" and try show their best to the world, to " Armys", who the flowers are in this song. BTS, and Army cannot really know each other totally, since they cannot be together ever. Army will always watch an " Idol" on tha stage, an artist, men who is trying to " grow flowers" for Army. I see this as a song for Army.

one thing i wanna point out (since i’m at the point of the video where you’re listening to the truth untold) i’m so glad they wrote this song, it literally is one of my favorite songs of bts and the first one i felt a connection and emotional attachment with when i was a baby army and i was discovering bts’ discography. it’s just so melancholy and comforting at the same time i can’t even explain it, the lyrics are amazing and the vocals are even better (if that’s possible). the live version really is breathtaking and beautiful.
one interesting fact is that namjoon wrote it and it’s based on an italian story (or legend, i’m really not sure) called “la città di smeraldo” and it makes me so happy as i’m italian myself. truly so beautiful

The vocal line songs always get me in the feelings. They have 4 such different but all ethereal emotional voices. Another one is Butterfly there are two versions a vocal line only version like they performed live in Busan last year -which reduced me to sobbing in my seat at the theater live viewing, there is also a version that’s longer and has rapline joining in adding rapping verses.
Butterfly in Busan hit different somehow, and then we got the enlistment news and I understood why.

I really did.. it means so much to me because I'm someone who's really hard on myself throught the day. So becoming aware with the idea that there is always no matter what a reset it just makes me feel so... ok with everything.
