- Every year the Bonsai Trophy is the biggest bonsai event on the European Bonsai Calender. Thousands flock to Genk in Belgium to see some of the best bonsai in Europe. THis is a complete show overview with the trees, traders trophys and some tree discussions.
From deadwood to twisted branches. Coniferous, deciduous evergrees, rafts, clumps formal uprights and magnificant bonsai Japanese maples. It was all to be seen this weekend in Genk!

An exceptional presentation Jelle. You captured the key parts of the event and even got a little interview with Tony Tickle. Those trees just blow my mind and a lot of them have so much creativity about them they must have been incredible to see live. Thank you for bringing this snapshot to me. Cheers.
Wow, thank you!
Beautiful Bonsai 😍

My friend, thank you for good sharing 😊 Have a good day
Thanks for visiting! Glad you liked it!
got to say the windswept display had to be my favourite. So glad it got an award
Fantastic!!! Presenting is obviously your second calling. Thank you for sharing those exceptional trees. 😮😮👏👏
Wow, thank you
Wow! This is amazing! That is an overwhelming amount of humans. Great video Jelle! Thank you for this!
Yeah, it was VERY well visited!
What a treat it was to see all the beautiful Bonsai, displays, and aspects of this show. Thank you for posting.
Heya Jeff, good to see you again. Glad you liked it. THere was enough work in getting all the video shot & producing this one!
Thank you Jelle for this amazing video and I will do my best that you like and love the Art and the Spirit of Suiseki more and more.
I hope so too! Maybe I should come to you one day and learn more about them! It was impressive what you put together there!
What a great event. Thanks for sharing it with us!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I concur with Xavier ...Bravo and Thank you for sharing this experience
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was an awesome video Jelle, a nice combination of trees and people!
Thank you Nigel! Have you ever made it to this show?
@@GrowingBonsai No, I haven't travelled much!
Bonsai show beautiful thanks jelle
Always welcome!
Some amazing trees there... looks a great show
It really is an amazing show!
Other channels posted videos with more trees, perhaps, but yours offered commentary and context theirs lacked (which certainly fits your style of channel). Yours was a video on the entire show, people and background included, where others' were on just the trees. Bravo, Jelle!
:) Thank you so much. I realized that I am slightly bored when just nice trees pas by, dozend in sequence. So I decided to do something different. Glad you liked it!
Such beautiful trees and displays. I have to try and make it to a show this year, it looks like it would be a blast!
You should! It is a great show and never disappoints!
Bravo thanks for sharing
Thank you! Glad to see you here!
That was great Jelle 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Can't wait! 😍
Me Neither! Curious to see what hthat guy made of the trophy!
There is such an amazing level of "natural intentionality" to the top quality trees. I am not sure I have the attention to detail to ever come close but gee; it is pure pleasure to see! Thank you for bringing Europe's best trees to my rural bush block in Victoria, Australia!
Couldn't agree more! You in Victoria? Did you know I have lived in Melbourne?
What a superb video Jelle. Thanks for putting in all that work to bring us the highlights of the show in this brilliant mini-documentary.
Glad you enjoyed it! So happy it is well-received. It did take a bit of time to produce!
Thank you for the quick tour. The trees were incredible! I hope can make it to the next show with an empty suitcase to bring back some cool things. We appreciate your videos- keep them coming.
:) The trip will be well-worth it!
Great to see everything up close and with such detail. I'd love to visit the trophy one day. Thank you Jelle
Glad you enjoyed it! Well-worth the visit mate!
Great behind the scenes coverage Jelle. Thanks for this 🙏
My pleasure! Hope you liked it!
Amazing standard across the whole show. I really like the Tokonoma displays as it really focusses the eye on the trees. The Windswept tree is very deserving of an award too, the accent, the dead leaves, super evocative!!
Yes, and the accent was designed by the owner, and made for him by an amazing artist in Israel.
@@GrowingBonsai Yeah JP is a perfectionist :D Learned a lot from him in my starts as a teenager
So nice
:)
Bonsai-bonsai yang menakjubkan
:)
I really have to try to get there next year. I probably should start saving up for it, not an easy task when being a pensioner 😁
:) It is well worth a trip, but not easy for everyone to reach, which is why I made the video :)
Non ho visto Marc Noelanders. Inizialmente, questa mostra europea si chiamava Noelanders Trophy, oppure questa è una cosa a sè?
Marc Noelanders is no longer involved in the organization, which is why it is now ""the trophy
👍👌👌🙂🙂
Thank you!
there's one thing, i can understand nigel.. first place broadleaf deciduous is a tree that doesn't look like a broadleaf tree shape... that bizarreness just punches you in the face :D were the judges drunk or what? (just kidding :D) i think there must be more categories.. for example one for deciduous natural (and with natural i don't mean not a fully thoughtful and forced shape, just the shape itself, pedantic styling to look real is much more difficult in my opinion than a fantasy or pine tree layer style..) style, and one for fantasy/wrong style.. :D in the bonsai world award judging MUST be separated into these 2 sections in my opinion. if my tree would "lose" against this specimen, i would be very salty xD but hey it's not a neutral judging^^ don't get me wrong, this tree is a beautiful work of art, i don't want to offend it, but.... yeah. besides that.. everything is a beauty on its own.. thanks for sharing! i'm hoping these thoughts will get some attention by some "big fishes" of the bonsai scene and they change some things towards that in the future..
Sorry to say.. I am not nigel :).
As for judging.. The tree was very impressive irl. And all bonsai techniques applied well. Whether the form of the tree is correct, that one can discuss for ever. I have not heard many grumble this was an undeserving tree.
I will be blessed if I even got the last prize bonsai for free. 😂
Yeah, I guess most of us would like one of them!
Amazing video Jelle! It summarizes really nicely the Trophy of this year :)
I'm on this video, and it's the only record so far I have of me helping on the demo. Do you mind if I take a screen shot and share it on Instagram? (I wrote you a message there) I'll tag you there in that case.
Hey Miguela, I can do better than that and send you the video if you let me know which it is, and/or extract a frame from the original footage, which probably is better. I did not know instagra has messaging 😂. I also cannot find any messages there! Can you drop me an email? (it is on my channel page, under "about")
Hi Jelle! Thanks a lot for your reply and for your very kind offer. I'll send you an email 😊
