I bought the Panasonic UB820 in Dec 2019. The few issues I had was fixed with a higher end HDMI cable. I had a bad 4k disc this year. I exchange it for a new one and everything was fine. Good luck trouble shooting.
Between the fireplace and cat litter in this tiny apartment, the only issue I've had with the Ub820 is pixilation/freezing corrected by using a cleaner disc 4 years now.
My previous UB9000 had disc read issues. It was a region free set bought from Bombay electronics. I’m onto my 3rd player which I bought locally here in Singapore. No issues no far
I had the same problem a couple years ago. It's a mini menu up on the screen in the bottom right corner right? There's no button that gets rid of it and power cycling doesn't help. What I ended up doing which worked was unplugging it and holding the power button for like 30 seconds. It's an old computer trick to clear the cache, Im guessing this does the same thing. I get the stuck menu like once or twice a year, I power cycle, and delete saved BD data and it goes away so I'm guessing it is memory related. It's not your TV, because I have a LG not Hisense, and it's not eARC because I have mine running straight to the receiver. This is a player issue that's been around since at least 2020 when I 1st got the player, and Panasonic doesn't care enough about it to send out a software fix for it, which makes me think it's either a hardware issue that can't be fixed via update, and they don't want to acknowledge (not likely), or it's not happening at a large enough frequency to consider it a widespread issue.
I occasionally get the same in the same place on screen as you on my LG C2 65 - when I accidentally try to use the LG remote for the UB820. It is random though. It is a function through ARC of the UB820. Press "Option" on the UB820 remote. Choose "Operation Menu", scroll down and selecting "Control Panel" will bring it up. Pressing "Return" on the UB820 remote will remove it. Pressing the back button on the LG remote also takes it away. Might work on your HiSense remote as well.
My setup is similar to yours I'm looking to upgrade my speakers to Towers what is the width from left to right on what you have there and how far apart are your front speakers
Interesting. I have an oppo bluray player and an oppo 4k player. Controllers are nearly identical and work for each unit. But if i power on or off w controllers, both components turn on/off, or any other command are duplicated
I've had a UB9000 for a while now; replaced a Cambridge Audio CXUHD (basically an Oppo UDP-203) that developed a strange chirping noise when playing DVDs (I keep the Cambridge in storage for backup). The Panny has been sent back for a replacement drive already, as it developed all sorts of issues right after the joke of a warranty ran out, including a noisy disc tray/drawer that would cog and vibrate as it closed as well as freeze ups on nearly all 4K discs. I had to pay a lot for the out of warranty service, and the player was working fine until recently, when it started doing the same thing. The cogging noise is back, and all discs are taking forever to load. This is for a FLAGSHIP unit that cost us over a thousand dollars with tax; it just isn't built to last. I had an 820 for one night - packed it up and returned it to Best Buy the next day after I saw how plasticky and lightweight the unit was for the $500 asking price. I would have bought something other than the Panasonic if there was another premium option available at the time (there wasn't, and we're right back to that situation again now).
Question for you since you owned emotiva and anthem processor. Which room correction is easier for a beginner in your opinion???? I am coming from a Marantz av7706 processor.
@@jayjustgames1725 I had trouble with Dirac but I think I know what I was doing wrong. But I get Brandon hill to do my calibrations. His link is below in the description.
I've had the same issue with the UB820 connected to my Denon AVR. Usually need to do a hard power cycle to get it to go away. It seems to happen randomly when turn off the whole system using the TV remote. If I shut down the Panny player first using its remote, then shut the rest of the system down I never get the issue. I also have that same issue at the start of your video, sometimes turning the Panny player on it starts up and says GOODBYE and shuts off 😂
The UB820 doesnt deal well with the 100gb 4ks Warner bros discs were particularly bad had a similar issue in the end I switched to a Reavon player more expensive but no more issues on 4k discs.
Oh g2 when I turn on eARC audio will drop off when I use Apple TV and Netflix atmos content and also ub820 on occasion. Different than your issue but an issue nonetheless.
Don't feel so bad for space because for myself I ran out of space back in 2019 when I had 19-3"x6" shelves that were double stalked front to back. Each shelf held about 495 movies with doubling them up per shelf. So just under 19,000 movies. The way I had to renovate my media room made it so that I can only house around 9,000 movies. So basically half my collection is housed in boxes in closets.
@@myhometheater7029 The sad thing is more movies are still coming. The good thing is if they are bad, then I will skip them and not try to keep certain franchises complete.
Is it plugged into your receiver or TV mine started doing from time to when I plugged it the X90l it didn't do it when it was plugged into my AN 1000 receiver
Stupid question, but did you try using the factory Panasonic remote exclusively, I'm thinking it might be because you're not using the factory compatible remote?
I'm thinking about buying Panasonic's 9000 series player, I've a mid level Sony but sometimes I put a new disc in and it freezes before the movie plays through, these are brand new discs, I check for dust, fingerprints but nothing is wrong, not every disc does this, but I'm hoping a good expensive player solves my problem
Maybe try a higher end hdmi cable 4k 8k 10k audio quest. Carbon or vodka. Middle of the line cables that are great but pricey. I’m moving from stock power cords to the audio quest z2 for my 820 as well.
I'm sorry my friend but here is the truth, always have a blu ray player on stand by,i have gone thru 7 bluray or 8 bluray since 2010 or so ,it only last for years if you are only using the bluray 5 or 6 times a month ,i on the other hand wash 7 or 8 movies a night so i destroy them.goodluck my 820 started freezing alot before i got tired of ruining my movie experience, now I'm using sony 800m2.a month now getting used to it great video
Another thing that sucks about the current consumer electronics climate, UI's are super cheap, laggy, and bugy all around. I expect that in mid and entry level electronics, but upper tier products? They need to separate themselves and justify the extra cost with more than just performance.
Instead of unplugging from the wall, go to the Panasonic unit and press the on/off button and hold it for 3 seconds and the machine should shut down and then you should press the on button one more time and I believe that will reset the unit, instead of having to unplug it from the wall which I'm sure is inconvenient. I have had a problem with this unit when it comes to watching UA-cam where after maybe an hour or two the screen will freeze and the remote won't work and I have to do this procedure and it happens almost every day I'm wondering if anybody else has this problem. Have a nice day
I feel the Panasonic UB820/K is not a very good player. Mine will have static snow once in a while. It happens more on boutique 4K blu-rays and never with blu-rays. But with those same 4K blu-rays if I play them in my PS5 they'll play perfectly. I find the Panasonic also doesn't load very well in comparison to my PS5. If the PS5 had Dolby Vision support then I would get rid of the Panasonic. Also don't like the Panasonic's homescreen UI it looks like it's from the early 2000s.

Just a guess, change to a better HDMI cable. I have a Hisense tv in my HT, and the Panny UB820, no issues.
