    You have so many spokeshaves. Are you what they call a spokesperson?

    I made the small version of this kit a little while ago. The result turned out great, and the instructions were easy to follow.

    i have two of these kits, the small and the large. i made the small one up using their precut cherry blank, all you have to do is shape the handles. i will make the larger one without the precut!

    Using a wedding band to keep your bit level is a clever trick. I've seen folks glue spirit levels to their electric drills, but this is the first time I've seen someone use a ring. 🙂.

    Don't need one now. Ordered one yesterday. But this kit does look good. Great video on how to make one. Wood By Wright is always right. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

    I really hate it when you do one of these tools making video. Now I have to buy a kit and try it myself 😄😄😄. Looking forward to trying this kit out.

    Love all your content! You have been a massive inspiration in my woodworking journey so far. It’s been something I’ve been wanting to get into for years, but never had a space to use until recently. So now I’m on my tool-buying journey now that I have space to work. Thank you again for all the time and effort you put into making these videos! It doesn’t go unnoticed.
    P.S. You call it a “Veritas marking gauge kit” near the end of your video (9:24). I’m still learning, but I’m 99% positive it’s supposed to be “spokeshave kit” lol. I’m also mildly autistic, so things like this stand out for me much easier than most.

    Love it, I was sceptical of the shape of the handle, when you were shaping it, but then once it was all done it looks fantastic well done.

    We attended Arkansas' junk n drive on 65 today. I saw the biggest spokeshave I've ever seen. About 15" long and about 2 inches wide with a very thick, heavy blade. I knew I should have taken a picture.

      Sounds like a Cooper's spokeshave. Sometimes the blades on those are over 3 in wide.

      generally you cant. if you weld, braze or solder it back it will just break there again.

    Successfully made this spoke shave after watching the video. Question: In the video you are shown using a router plane that appears to be homemade. Do you have a video or plans available for it?

    • @WoodByWrightHowTo

      The video on making that design is here ua-cam.com/video/-6WaPXnw9Do/v-deo.htmlsi=stCL-FFiaRRkh3Sm
      But I have made around 10 to 12 different router planes over the years in the channel. All with different designs and kits.

    Thanks for all your hard work on these videos. They are very helpful. I do have a question for you. Do you think if I didn't include the brass wear plate you could turn it into more of a curved bottom spoke shave? I think I will try anyway but interested in your thoughts. Once again, thanks for all the content.

    • @WoodByWrightHowTo
      @WoodByWrightHowTo  4 місяці тому

      Yes. That works great. Most of the old spokes didn't have a wear plate but you'll find that the body wears down relatively quickly then.

    • @fergusward237
      @fergusward237 4 місяці тому +1

      @@WoodByWrightHowTo thank you. I’ll just use some ridiculously hard Aussie hardwood to reduce the wear factor. Or part of the benefit of making your own body is knowing how to make another one.
      Side note. Love the Dad jokes😀

    Great video. If you like making tools, let me ask you this. Can you take a simple 2 inch chisel and use it in a Krenov style plane to make a cheap smoother? I've seen many vidoes making rabet and grooving planes from a chisel, so how about a Krenov/Chisel/#4?

    Hi James, very nice! Love the way that wood finished! Question: What is the purpose of the ring on the drill bit? And what is the meaning of a slotted screw has to be "clocked"? You got my curiosity going 😂😂
    Keep up the good work!

    • @WoodByWrightHowTo
      @WoodByWrightHowTo  Рік тому +1

      Here is a video about the ring trick ua-cam.com/video/-0R-R56e7Dc/v-deo.html basically it lets me know if the bit is level. Clocking a screw means that they are all pointing the same direction. it is just for aesthetics.

    Hello, I just purchased the same vintage spokeshave and discovered that one of the tangs are cracked off!
    is there a way of repairing and or welding it back onto the blade? ... please let me know. Thank you, dee

    • @WoodByWrightHowTo
      @WoodByWrightHowTo  6 місяців тому

      not really. you can try to weld it but as that is a stress point. it will probably just break again. and there is no standard to their size so you can not just get a replacement blade.

  • @CarlWinter-oy8uf
    @CarlWinter-oy8uf 2 місяці тому

    You say --(at 4:33)--that a thick piece of card stock should be able to slide in (between the blade and brass /??)--what size is that gap or clearance ? any dimensions ?as its not shown at all ---and this is the most important gap that allows the shavings to pass through without blocking the mouth /cutting area ---can you show a close up ??

    • @WoodByWrightHowTo
      @WoodByWrightHowTo  2 місяці тому

      The mouth opening really isn't that important as long as it's larger than the shaving you're wanting to take off. The mouth doesn't have to be crazy tight on this because if the grain is reversing then you just turn it around and go the other direction.

  • @CarlWinter-oy8uf
    @CarlWinter-oy8uf 2 місяці тому
