    Question: How many shoots you push through the barrel before you clean it with “hard core” chemicals to remove copper and other things (lets say big clean service). And what are you using for it?

    Awsome videos. Top shooting. Id like some advice on what scope is best for my howa 22-250 for 300 + yard shots at night. At the moment im using a nikko stirling 3-12x56. It does the job up to 200 yards but doesnt quite cut it to go any further

      I'd go with a s&b or Zeiss something like that with decent glass in for night shooting or go night vision with something like a drone pro

    hi was wondering if i could pick you brain. hopefully becoming a gamekeeper soon and am trying to sort out my firearms as they are only for target shooting at the minuet and was wondering if you have used one of the hawk 22lr scopes and are they any good??? only have a cheap scope on my 22 at the moment. was also wondering if you have used the Yukon Photon XT 6.5×50 Digital Night Vision before as i was thinking of putting one on my 223 for dedicated night shooting but not sure how good they are or what there effective range is and buying a 22 hornet and putting the scope off my 223 on it and using it as a vermin gun for a bit of everything during the day. any input would be amazing Thanks

      Hi mate congratulations on a great career choice 👍
      Yes I have a Hawke scope on my 22lr and they are excellent for value for money! You don’t need to spend a fortune on a rimfire scope.
      I’ve not used the new photon but I’ve seen footage and they look good, the trick is with all Nightvision is to use a good ir with it such as the pbir
      Www.pbir.co.uk

    • @Robert_L200
      @Robert_L200 6 років тому

      Thanks, optic warehouse does a yukon photon xt 6.5x50 scope plus tracer ir add on for £435 would only be looking to shoot out to about 200 yards 300 max so think it should be good for that with the ir add on. the hawke scope i was looking at has it dialed in for a 50 yard zero and shows where to shoot out to 200 so that should keep things simple for me

    Question: how do you clean your barrel. Chemical, brush etc. After how many shots? After each shooting?
    Thank's
    Regards out of Switzerland

    • @260rips
      @260rips  7 років тому +2

      Thank you yes, after each session.
      I use kg1 carbon remover and a nylon brush to clean the barrel then use patches to remove all residue.

    • @Hixyboyblue
      @Hixyboyblue 7 років тому

      Do you suffer from clean bore accuracy issues with the first shot, albeit consistently. If so, do you allow for that first shot or do you have any tips for getting rid of this annoyance. I hate putting the rifles away dirty, so always clean them but a couple of them do suffer with that first shot from a clean bore. Thanks for posting all these vids, good balance between content and a calm but formal way of presentation.

    • @franzschmid9079
      @franzschmid9079 7 років тому

      I'm using a patch with alcohol and push through the barrel before I'm going shooting. Also cleaning the cartridge chamber as well. I had quit good success with this.

    • @260rips
      @260rips  7 років тому +1

      Franz Schmid
      This can be an issue although I don't find it makes much difference on this rifle. If I'm using a rifle that is affected like this I buy a box of cheap ammo and just put a round in the dirt before I go out to clear it out.
      As it happens the first shot in this video was with a clean barrel.

    Hi Mark. I am just getting into fox management and could do with advice on a technical point: the legal disposal of fox carcasses. As far as I can determine, wild animal remains that are the by-product of hunting come under EWC 02 01 02 and can legally be disposed of via black bin household waste as they are permitable additions to generic landfill sites. Where the land owner does not want their carcasses left on their land, how do you dispose of them?

    • @260rips
      @260rips  7 років тому

      Vincent Gray hi mate, some of my farmers like to see the results of my efforts and I leave the carcasses for them to dispose of either by burning them or burying them. Sometimes they will be thrown in the slurry pit to rot away. Really foxes should be burnt or buried but Often foxes are thrown into thick cover away from buildings and footpaths for nature to take its course and rot away.

    Obviously you practice alot ,very good shooting skills. Is your 260 your favorite cal.? Or is it just better in the wind for the distances your shooting.
    Back to the practicing part,how much time are you putting in too it?
    Myself I am shooting 15 to 16 days a month out to 600yrd.,from positions I use while predator hunting . Just curious (my girlfriend thinks I'm obsessed. ) Me I love shooting, have been doing this for year's. Thanks.

    i would love to see you make a video of the process you go through to make and test your ballistic charts. once you confirm your load is accurate and speed is constant how do you confirm when you dial in elevation will be correct. there is no real good vids on the short and medium distance data card process. the only time its covered on youtube its mainly about ELR which is cool but unrealistic for a lot of us varmint hunters. your precision is inspiring mate. keep the vids coming love the 260RIPS channel. from down under in AUS

      @260rips  7 років тому

      Joshua Spillman
      Thank you 👍this is something I'm going to be doing in a video soon!
      Basically I use a kestrel wind meter for the ballistic info.
      One the load is sorted I'll zero at 150m and chrono the load then put the info into the kestrel, confirm at 300, 500 then around 800. I adjust the muzzle velocity value in the kestrels settings until it matches the drops I'm getting down range.

    It don't seem the new horned L.E.D match expand well. I'm looking for a good long range bullet for lite game would be intresting in knowing what you switch too when you run out of your 140 v max ?

    • @260rips

      strud34 I’ve already switched to the 143 grain eld-x, I’m using them in this video! The eld-x are excellent bullets but be sure to get these not the eld-m. Unlike the old A-max/v-max thing where they both seemed to be the same bullet, the eld -x (expanding) actually do seem to expand well on small game where as from what I’m told the eld- m (match) simply pencil through small game with little expansion 👍

      The best way to work out adjustments is to either shoot at paper targets at different ranges and record how many clicks for the range or how many mildots you need to holdover. The other way would be to use a phone app like 'strelok'

      Magpies and crows will not only eat the chicks and eggs from song birds nests but will also attack livestock. Around lambing time they can mob a ewe giving birth and attack both her or the newly born lambs. They can kill young lambs this way by pecking them to death usually starting by pecking out the eyes. You will often see in a flock of sheep some will have eyes missing.
      A ewe struggling on its back or tangled in brambles can also suffer this painful fate.
      These birds are classed as vermin and legally controlled under the general licence, even the rspb understands the need for their control and undertakes predator control on their own nature reserves.

      Good answer, I was also wondering why the Crow got shot, if they are a pest they need to be controlled... You're an amazing shot with that .223, I am in the process of getting my licence here in Australia and am purchasing a Howa 1500 Stainless in a .308 for large game hunting.

    Good shooting brother... These are some beautiful animals I've had a few pet foxes growing up and I still have a couple wild foxes that hang around my house that'll come eat out of my hand so they're not something I've ever wanted to hunt but I get it. We don't have a fox problem where I live and even if we did we can only trap them not shoot them ... That said I do the same thing with coyotes because when cows start dropping calfs I've seen ranchers lose a bunch of them along with pets. What kind of limits do yall have on foxes or is it bad enough there's no limits like coyotes here in America??

      I know about the despicable behavior of scavengers like foxes - we've had to put down ewes who've had their faces chewed off by such during lambing. I had no idea your crows were so vicious! Although I can't imagine shooting them is a very efficient method of pest control? I can't judge anyway since we only have lovely magpies and ravens down here in West Australia. Best of luck.

    • @260rips

      ramiel01 true shooting with a rifle isn’t the best way (l just shoot them at any given opportunity!) the best way is to build a hide/blind and shoot them over decoys with a shotgun 👍 can shoot hundreds this way
