Professor Al-Khalili looks at the 19th century chemists who struggled to impose an order on the apparently random world of the elements. From working out how many there were to discovering their unique relationships with each other, the early scientists' bid to decode the hidden order of the elements was driven by false starts and bitter disputes. But ultimately the quest would lead to one of chemistry's most beautiful intellectual creations - the periodic table.

we been watching this series on BBC4, its pretty amazing
This video is informative, and gives us an idea of the roots of the periodic table.
I love jimmy alkalili ❤😂❤
Please BBC, give us the full episodes!
Nice video!
You probably don’t even use UA-cam anymore. Strange to think.
THIS IS AWESOME '
I was wondering if the need to seperate out the actinides and lanthanides from the main body of the table are a clue about where to locate 'hidden dimensions'?
Where can I find all three videos for this? We need it for our Chem 15.0 subject. Thanks a lot! :)
Shout out to miss for getting us here
nah
Love you jimmy
sounds like a great father.
Yes lass
Its scientifically amazing!!!🚀
why are these programmes not available in full on a large bbc platform? silly that they are not. i for one would be willing to pay a small annual sub to be able to
Chemistry HW made me come here

Are there english subtitles for this episode?

Without MENDELEEV there would be no table.
Exelente !
wait... periodic table card game except it summons the element
i have an idea!
Chuck Norris round-house kicked the period table out of existance. Because Chuck Norris only believes in the element of surprise!
Damn commented 10 years ago do you even use UA-cam anymore
@@randomguy521 lol yes
@@zQWASZX ohh damn
But there is no element 'Surprise' in the Periodic Table - and I have checked!
Turn on the captions at the beginning of the video, and I can relate.
Awsome it helped my home work
It surprises me that this 3 part programme is unavailable to buy on DVD from the BBC...I'm also surprised that it isn't on here in it's entirety ... I really need part 1 on DVD as I've been unlucky and missed part 1 shown on BBC 4 on Thursday 10th April :-(
you forgot the element of surprise
How do you spell Basailius? I the person who did the other table?
+daniel ong Berzelius

hi
hello
The DISCOVERY of God? Um.... when was God discovered exactly? There is no denying that there is much about this planet we dont know about? Science its self has many flaws. There are many theories that for some reasons get confused with laws. Theorys are like rules, theyre meant to be broken. In a way, Science's strenght comes from its ability to grow in order to try to achieve its one true goal, complete enlightment of the world around us. To walk amongst the gods in the kingdom of Knowledge.
Continuing on from my last comment ... I know I can watch it in full on iPlayer, but I REALLY wanted to record it and have it on disc...
Yes it's a good program but you should know - here are not a COMPLETE table.
Many years they hide There must have also one deleted and forbiden element in the first 0 groupe (Yes! Zero groupe!) - Ether missing. In the original Mendeleev's table this "father of all elements" exist.
To people who are doing their Homework HEYYYY
2:57 Not in my school. The school management wants us to remember and recite the whole periodic table.[INCLUDING ATOMIC MASS AND OTHER PROPERTIES OF ELEMENTS.] [NEVER STUDY IN INDIA] [INDIAN SCHOOLS SUCK] [I WISH I WERE A BRIT OR AMERICAN]
@Harrison Moore I'm alright now. I've switched from CBSE to CIE AS Level.
