  • My new harvestright freeze dryer review. I just purchased my second Harvestright freeze dryer and today i am showing the unboxing, setup, entire batch bread run, the new oiled premier pump and the problems harvestright has solved with this newest version. I will also show you how to change the oil, which is only required every 20-30 bathes now! My old freeze dryer is now 4 years old and though it has been a great machine, the new freeze dryer solves 2 of my biggest problems with solving the pump noise issue and not having to change the oil every single batch!
This is the most in depth and comprehensive review on youtube.

Thanks retired at 40. We understand the need for patience in responding to the demand for our product in recient months. Our team is working tirelessly. You now have a more updated machine than I have. Isn't that the way it goes!!! I'm loving the batches as they come out. There is nothing better than feeling prepared for any that may occur down the road.

Living with my mistake of ordering a Harvest Right freeze dryer. That's right, you heard me, ordering my freeze dryer was a massive MISTAKE!!!!

FYI - the large will process more food than the small and medium dryer....combined. I've had my large dryer now for 2 years. Love it. I'm currently doing 15 pounds of fruit and I have about 6 quarts of homemade vegetable beef soup to do next. The largest load I've done was 23 pounds of meats - took 53 hours but it all dried well. Large loads take more time because there is more water. You may want to try and sell your small unit - I know, you'll take a loss, But then you can get the one you really want.
Large dryer requires a dedicated 20 amp circuit.

@@jerrysmith372 At 15 lbs of fruit, how much finished does it weigh after the freeze drying process?
Harvest RIght's website tells how much gallons it'll produce, but not the persentage of weight left aafter water is removed.

    • @jerrysmith372
      @jerrysmith372 3 роки тому +1

@@riciaswebb406 I only keep a mental note of how much things weigh but never measure it - A full tray seems to weigh between 3 to 4 pounds wet. I don't take the time to weigh things out once dried. For my purposes the weight of finished product is of no concern to me. All I can say about it is that it is very light weight. Foods are mostly water.

Hey how’s Iowa treating you buddy. We’re
you surprised the difference between the medium and the large.
I certainly was when I picked up my second freeze dryer after having owned a large stainless steel with oil less pump.
I kicked myself at first for not buying a large as my 2nd unit. Than when getting ready to order my third unit due to my business expanding I found out the large freeze dryers are ten weeks out on back order.
I started to crunch some numbers and since space is not a problem I decided I could make due with another medium freeze dryer for my third unit as I’m in need of one right now as the garden harvest is coming in.
I’m projecting by next spring I’ll need another one more additional freezer dryer and at that point I’ll probably just try and stay a head of the game and order two large freeze dryers.
That will give me three large freeze dryers and two mediums. Hopefully that will help with upkeep of stock, freeze dryer maintenance.
Part of my decision that helped me make a decision to pull the plug and go ahead and order another medium was your video on comparing the medium and large freeze dryer.
In the end I felt the medium was the best option for me. I definitely benefited from watching the video listening to your Pro and Cons and than weighing my own to make an informative decision.
I would like to take a moment and give a well deserved plug and a big thumbs up 👍 to Retired at 40 for his UA-cam channel and Facebook page.
Even for someone like myself who has a well versed back ground of over 35 years in electrical, nutrition, culinarily arts and several years as a user of the HarvestRight.
I have found Retired@40 UA-cam videos to be very informative, non bias, very useful and accurate when it comes to the maintaining and maintenance side of a freeze dyer.
I like how Retired@40 use layman terms explaining the technical side of the HarvestRight. One example is in his videos he explains the wattage and cost of using the HarvestRight.
As a journeyman electrician I found the explanation on cost and use of the HarvestRight per cycle to be right on and well done.
I think you’ll find whatever your skill set or level of expertise when it comes to knowledge of preparation of food, mechanical background, maintaining and maintenance, use of your HarvestRight.
Retired@40 has something you can learn or get out of his videos. I personally have learned a wealth a knowledge, saved a ton of money and avoided costly maintenance issue and repairs from the over 100 videos Retired at 40 posted on his UA-cam channel.

Thank You so much Brian for your site & all your videos, it is awesome & so helpful as well :-) I am glad you actually have owned the machine for 3-4 years & give an honest review of the products.
My husband & I just received our harvest right medium size freeze dryer yesterday, by FED EX. It arrived at FED EX on friday. I did get a phone call to arrange delivery of the freeze dryer, which came to my home.
I ordered the freeze dryer on March 30th. Just for other people currently the shipping time on the freeze dryer is 6-8 weeks. I guess there is high demand for the freeze dryer. We thought it would be much better option than dehydrating our food for prepping. Which I also have a dehydrator.
Also, with freeze drying, with other companies you are limited to the food choices they offer. We have food buckets with pre-made food, which is sadly mixed with spices. My husband has an issue with spices. so overall, freeze drying is a better option.

I appreciate the info in this video. I watched your video of your older freeze dryer, with the standard pump and this pump seems like it really will improve the overall experience of using the freeze dryer. I had recently put a downpayment (using their layaway plan) to get a small unit as I am disabled and the smaller, 3 tray unit is significantly lighter in weight. Thanks to this video, I called them and had them upgrade my order to the premier pump. I look forward to checking out your other videos and FB group. Like you, one of the biggest drawbacks for me was having to change the oil after every use. I knew I wouldn't do that, so purchasing one was a no go. I decided to wait. Just today, I saw another channel that showed their use of their Harvest Right, so I went to Harvest Right's website to check about updates with the product. I see they now have an oil-free pump, which is more appealing to me. You briefly mentioned about an oil-free, so I wanted to get your thoughts about the pump if you have used it. I've had my large dryer and oil less pump since Dec 2018 and run it almost 24/7. Yes I had a pump failure in the first 6 months but HR rebuilt it under warrantee - Haven't had a problem since. Since HR has reduced the size of the vacuum hose they haven't had the failures they once had - but some still continue to have some bearing failures. HR is really good about working with customers that have pump issues.

Thank you for these great videos! I was so amazed and just had to get one. Mine arrived about a month ago. I read the instruction manuals, and I had an electrician put in the appropriate wiring. Tried to power it on, and no light - nothing! So I called HR, they scheduled a tech to call me, two weeks later he said they'd send me a new power switch and when it arrives, just pop off the top and install it. My electrician came back and opened it up (which wasn't just pop off the top), and what he found floored us. There were wires inside not even connected to anything! So he said, "Here's your problem." The next day, I was so excited to do the bread start, the initial start up. It was about an hour or so into the freeze cycle, and it beeped/rang, "Can't create vacuum." I followed the troubleshooting guide, but can't seem to find the issue. I'm getting frustrated at this point. I paid over$4000 for this machine over 2 months ago (had to wait weeks for delivery), and it doesn't seem to want to work properly. I hope tech support will help me with this soon. 😕

Be careful with the top of your pump almost level with the vacuum outlet on the machine. When the one way seal on the vacuum hose fails it will allow oil to run into your machine.
The seals fail enough that it is something to watch. The new black vacuum hoses don't allow you to see when the seal fails like the clear ones did.
We've run 4 large machines almost non-stop for the past 16 months.
