Maybe add a "lazy" or "rest" factor, where the blob would not want to spend all its time collecting.
Maybe the action of resource collection could lower happiness slightly? Though I don't think that would have any impact until the happiness reduction from collection is greater than the happiness improvement, resulting in the blob just doing nothing. Would be interesting to see it balance though, getting only what it needs and resting otherwise
the thing about that type of factor is that it's better to just lower the amount of time
let's say they get 10 hours to do something, if they're normal they have 10 hours
if they have 13 and they're lazy for 3 it's still 10
there's literally no difference between them
@@randoman8654 In the current simulation you're correct, but humans don't do "nothing" either: yet we do A) get tired of repeatedly doing a thing and B) do things other than harvest resources. Adding "sleep" and "relax" to the list of things the blob wants to do each day would be interesting, and make the simulation a better representation of people.
That said, it sounds like we're going to see this time-management sim applied to the economy sim before we get a more complex time-management sim.

anothing thing that would be interesting would be if the trees didnt grow back in one day, and the blob acctuly had to see how many trees it can cut in order to get fire wood, but at the same time, not starve

this little figurative jellybean is quite literally a bodybuilding woodcutter, able to cut wood continuously for an entire day, for generations, not even getting tired or back aches due to old age.
It would be interesting if you included a storage system, where unused resources can be stored and so the happiness from them goes down over time since it already has some.
And competition between many colectors, maybe some system of cooperation, where blobs would assemble into factions to divide resources according to contribution or something

They can't store much of things in long period.
It's useless if they store like.. 1 Ton of mango if these mango gonna rot in like.. 1 week later. All those abundant mango will be a mount of waste.
And also the wood. The wood can rot because the water(humidity), microanimals, moss, and fungi.
That's why village with small population never have big storage building. Because it is useless if those items rot.
For this video, the blob is just one blob. He don't need to have some kind of storage room. Simply put these resources in his house is enough. He don't have refrigerator either tho to store the mango.

lol just yesterday I had an exam in "optimization for software engineers" where the goal is to create algorithms to optimize the solutions of economical problems like linear-programming problems which is basically what this video is about
What kind of machine learning algorithm and model was used to calculate the best possible outcome? I would assume a neural network but I doubt it will work that well with little input.

@@gor5048 I know XD know idea what they are talking about. But what I do know is that the best possible outcome would be an exponential graph of half of a quadratic equation. The function of this would serve as making the neural network smooth and the algorithm would work as intended.
@@ryansamarakoon8268 this doesn't require machine learning, as primer pointed out this can definitely be calculated ahead of time, it's actually quite simple :)
My machine learning prof was not a friend of neural networks and probably dies inside every time people think of machine learning as just neural networks.

Except diminishing marginal utility means that you get less extra happiness not less happiness every mango, you can still get more happiness with each mango so you woulda gotten that one wrong.

@@chrisd301 Except that food in reality can spoil. So you would in fact end up getting less happiness if you collect more food than you use, as that results in wasted time. Same applies if you add spoiled food to the simulation. Trade would of course change that but only as long as you can trade.

Could you simulate a scenario where a blob is given the choice between instant gratification and delayed gratification it would be great to see if a blob would either choose to maximize its daily happiness or bid its time for a greater amount of happiness
It’s a Maschine it would wait.
Do you suffer from instant gratification? Perhaps?
It's kind of the same thing:
Replace wood with time till gratification and mangos with amount of gratification. Then rewrite the happiness function, so that more time means less happiness.
The blob wouldn't necessarily choose to wait. It's actions are based on the happiness function.

No no no, the trees are chopped down for wood, and the "piece of log" left behind is actually a mango that the blob chose not to gather (because it was chopping down the tree instead).

As a student currently studying economics, seeing "Diminishing Returns" and "Marginal Utility" in the video and knowing what it is and understanding the concept behind it makes me really happy. Love the videos, keep 'em up! :)
Wait until you start running simulations with your own code. It's fascinating even if we usually fail to make perfect predictions because the world is way to messy.
Also read Asimov's Foundation trilogy for great science fiction depicting a future in which our models are finally advanced enough to predict our society as a whole.
@@neochris2 well, that sounds incredibly complex xD how do you even wrap your head around a model which predicts the behaviour of our entire society? How can you predict an individuals' utility? We can never be 100% precise...

You could have made this video without the charming animation but you went through the effort of making such a high quality animation with physics and all that. Great video.
