    In this quick tips video, I'm giving you all of my fin selections in chronological order and explaining which dives I use which fins for.
    Why do I own two pairs of two different fin styles in different sizes? Why do I need six pairs of fins when I only have two feet?! What factors should you be thinking about when choosing fins for scuba diving?
    All of these questions and more answered in this week's quick tips video!
    Thanks for watching!

    I dive with Apeks RK3's absolutely love them. they are a little heavy on land but almost neutrally buoyant, and indestructible. great for doing frog kicks and other technical fining techniques. only time i regretted them was doing a long timed snorkel for my dive master course.

    Great Video! I started with Mares volo power, but after switching to BP/W 7ft primary hose, I had to switch to Jetfins to correct my weight distribution to have *perfect* trim. I no longer have the option to switch fins LOL. OMG James! you have the grey camo jetfins, I have the blue camo Jetfins... style points.. well done!

    Great rundown James. Thanks for that. Every tried the ScubaPro TwinJets? I used them through AOW to DM and I've loved them. They have enough power to let me catch runaways while also not tiring out my legs. The only complaint i have is that they have very little power on a frog kick, a standard issue with split fins, but the do scull really well so i still find them very usefully on rec dives.

    I'm with you on your selections. The only other general comment I can make is, if you have "weird" feet, as in bunions or such, it is nice to have a material for warm water diving that you can heat up and punch out. Makes a big difference when doing a solid week of diving and works with most of your warm water selections.

    I have a pair of Avanti quattro for long time, those are great pair of fins, very useful in my kind of diving (scientific diving) because it make easy to assume head down position and keep you foots apart of corals when you need to get close to them.
    The only inconvenience they have is when you are making snorkeling, your feet will be out of the water part of the kicking cycle, but if you submerge, they will give a nice propulsion.
    Great video James, as always. Thanks

    Splurged on a pair of seawing novas the second I decided to get serious about scuba and have zero regrets. They are durable, efficient and allow me to move with ease in the water. I wasn’t particularly fit when I first started scuba so using good fins that are powerful and comfortable really made a big difference for my diving experience. They also come in a range of bright colours - I just had go with the hot pink. It’s practically impossible to miss me in the water lol

    I’ve got to echo James, I’ve gone from a set of oceanic split fins ( yes I know ) to a set of Orange RK3’s. As a DMT I decided to go orange for visibility, and I’m dry suit diving on the U.K. 99% of my time, if I’m ‘warm water’ diving I’ll use my pool fins which are full foot Oceanic that I’ve had since doing my open water course 10 years ago

    The ScubaPro Jet Fins and Aqualung/Apeks RK3's (Rocket Fin was original name) are pretty much the same fin (design) with some modifications and material differences. I started out with Jet Fins and had them for a long time until I broke a blade on one of them. Then I used the ScubaPro Sea Wings for a while until I broke a blade. I still have my Wenoka fins (30 years old now) and they work great. I've taken care of them.
    Key thing to fins is foot pocket fit and comfort along with blade stiffness/strength matched up to the divers abilities and leg strength.

    When I started diving 7 years ago and I bought my Mares X Stream I thought that I had a perfect pair of finns. But then I came across the Scuba Pro Nova and I realised that you can improve a pretty simple product like finns. I love my Novas they are great finns. But I do understand the need for different finns for different conditions. Me as a recriational diver with no intension to go into tech, am totally fine with those finns.

    Love your videos, thanks so much. I have only 96 dives, so a newer diver, but I have been diving with Atomic Aquatic Open Heel Splitfins since the beginning. If I am in heavy current, it seems others with solid fins work less hard to propel through the water, and I am having trouble keeping up. Am I just finning wrong, or is it the fins? I do love my fins, though I see cool fins in dive shops and wonder about all of the other styles. Should I have solid fins for better propulsion in the water? Thanks Kendra

    My First fins where Mares Quatro fin's, I sold them in a Year. I am 5'7' and fat 4e wide feet, the Quarto with many others, HURT after a long day of diving. Depth of pocket is fine, not the width. I ended up spending my early career in Atomic Blade and split Fins (X1's to tall and fell off). I found them to have much more room and comfort. But.... No power IMO when I needed them for Rescue situations. So that leads to me where I am not. Apeks RK3's and Zeagle Recon's (the new model).

I was about to pull the trigger on a pair of RK3 when I came across this add and video for the deep 6 fins. I am 58 soon to turn 59 and will be doing a lot of drift dives overtime in the Philippines one in particular that was rated in the top ten dive sites in the world in diver magazine. • @JohnDoe-ef3xe

    Great video! Im currently still using my Tusa Sollas in which I started diving. Im primarily a „recreational vacation warm water diver“ (but always tend to wear at least a 3mm, most often 5mm full suit) and want to buy gear more tailored for that. In diving itself, while they are decent fins, I find my Sollas also a bit too heavy and stiff. Small corrections are very hard for me and I can do one very long or two medium dives in them but Im not sure I would be able to do more (like three or four per day on a livaboard). So I have been looking around and the Seawing Nova or some Split Fins have been recommended to me and I was wondering if you have any experience with those? Or any other recommendation to look into?

    • @OrenNoah
      @OrenNoah 3 роки тому +1

      Split fins may feel good, but they don't generate the power you need in a current or emergency. Plus, they tend to kick up silt, annoying other divers, especially photographers.

      I can't really maintain a flutter kick long, so I've always done a modified frog kick. The Hollis F2s are very similar to the RK3s but considerably lighter. To the extent that I'll likely buy a pair of RK3s to be my drysuit fins. I can usually scoot about a dive site with just my ankles moving in the F2s.

    Hi James
    Recently I read about racial deco and I don't understand how calculate and how we use it . Could you explain it ?

    • @DiversReady
      @DiversReady  3 роки тому

      Ratio deco is really only for tec diving and if you're a tec diver, you're Instructor should have gone through it with you. UTD are big fans of ratio deco. I prefer to trust my dive computer as a planning tool.

    Are the Quattros a good travel fin cause I am concerned about weight. Or is there a good travel fin?

    • @DiversReady
      @DiversReady  2 роки тому

      They are a good compromise. They are not the lightest fin ever made, but they out perform a lot of heavier fins, if that makes sense.

    Hey James, what's your boots size?

  • @LarsBosman

    I am sorry, but I don't share your opinion on the jet fins / weight of fins. Even when I dive in shorts and rash guard my feet are in the same position as I would dive in dry suit, when wearing my jet fins. You as the diver determines where your fins are in the water column and if you can't control them it means you need to improve on your body position and trim.

    Thx James for been around, you've been like my consultant dive guru, I've got a question, What're suitable fins Negative or a positive buoyant for a diver.
    P.S
    I have been using Nova "Scubapro."

      Meh. I tried them once and they didn't work for me, I couldn't get any propulsion out of them. But I'm a bigger guy. Sylvia Earle dives force fins, so there's a recommendation for you from on high!

    What works for you does not work for everyone. My Novas work for me. Stiff fins don’t work for my body type. Key is to try different fins.

    Jetfin: it's a classic, but that footpocket!!!! CHANGE it!!!!!!. if you want a heavy fin, go get a Hollis F1. jetfin style for warm water: DEEP6. alternative: Xdeep.
    Mares Avanti Quattro: only BIG problem is that Bungee. broked after 1 year. and I've seen so many others had the same problem eaither on the boat or online. and the damn thing cost half the price of the fin!!!!!! a Mares stainless steel sprin strap cost as much as a new fin!!! CHANGE it!!!!!!!!!!. you want a longer blade fin, get Dive Rite.
    if after you got use to a stiff fin like jetfin, it's difficult to go back to a softer fin like Mares.

      @@DiversReady I'm advancedow and nitrox, and looking forward to do the rescue courses. I'm very interested in frog kicks, tec procedures and techniques. However for now I will wait until doing tech courses and caves.
      Can I use oms for my recreationals, and I have them too for my future tec courses?
      I only dive recreationals, but I will like diving wrecks in near future. Caves is another thing, before that I have lots of things to learn and see before becoming tech
