I worked as a promo spokesperson for the Microsoft watch, standing around Circuit Cities trying to demo and sell them to people who couldn't care less. Good times.
+jaypob I'm genuinely intrigued by your comment, was this a one off gig? If not, how was it like working in the tech industry during that time? Cheers for the comment!
ColdFusion It was just a short term gig; I was working through a promotions agency. My dad worked for Hewlett Packard through most of the 80's, though. The rise and fall of HP might make for an interesting video.
+jaypob I remember Fossil made a smart watch powered by Palm OS in 2003. I really wanted one back then, I had my Visor Prism and this watch had it all for me. Interestingly enough, after Fossil discontinued it in 2005 they also made a watch based on Microsoft's MSN.Net and it was pretty nice as well, you could even receive MSN Messenger IMs to the watch over those FM bands. I was glad to see the smartwatch idea come back after 2005
He was being figurative for sure. Cause it's literally impossible to not have used a Pc even in late 90's, especially today. Someone who has worked at Apple even, I 20000x favor desktop/laptop Win 7, Ios for mobile. There's almost no point on OSX except for decreased virus rates.
+LxC When it comes to creative professionals Mac is almost the only way to go. Built in Utilities guarantee you will never lose any progress within your project and will make sure all your windows and files are saved even if there is power failure. This is all built in, also the entire OS is built on drag and drop, so it makes it great for creative professionals, such as dragging and dropping a pic in photoshop of pixelmator, things that are not available system wide on Windows. Also stability, considerably less malware and viruses, and you get a new OS every year for free. Plus, designers appreciate Apple's great design, PC look pretty ugly compared to a mac. If anything High end PCs are used for creative computational processes, such as rendering a video, or even a 3D animation, but once you go any higher than that within the space of intense processes, you need a custom linux OS. So Windows is pretty much only good for small businesses who need Office, and gamers. Of course there are other uses, but those are not as big as the two i have preciously mentioned.
TV is dead not to mention he would be at a HUGE disadvantage going to that platform. Lawyers, contracts, restrictions, no creative freedom, etc etc. YT is the best way for low sub content creators to grow and even super high sub creators to maintain as money/platform capabilities scale fairly well.
That was at the beggining because later, they became independed, they could have survived without Apple though; but Microsoft helping Apple was a MAJOR thing or Apple wouldn't exist today
+saiftakrim10101 Why do I not like macs? I do. They are amazing media creation tools and almost all UA-camrs use them. But, on the other hand, there's these Apple fanboys that will dismiss any product that is not made by Apple and say, "I just don't like them."
+saiftakrim10101 I have plenty of reasons why I don't like macs, and yes I have actually bothered to spend time with OSX before. also Edward, you are clearly misinformed if you believe macs are the best media creation tools, they're hardware is extremely limited in what they can do and if you actually wanted to do any kind of professional Video work you are screwed with them.
Machina How am I misinformed? Many UA-camrs, including MKBHD, used Mac Pros before. They are powerful machines that are very capable of media creation. Notice that I never said that Macs are the BEST media creation tools. Of course you can build a $20,000 PC that can blow the Mac Pro out of the water. BTW, if you're just a PC fanboy, the Mac Pro is made of off the shelf custom PC components.
its really amazing how you gather all the great facts about something and also the videos related to those facts and of course your narration gives icing on the cake which makes your videos one of a kind...really love and enjoy your videos...kudos to you :)
I rarely leave a comment, but your videos are truly inspiring! Great content, very nice atmospheric DNB on the background combined with a powerful voice. Cheers!
"It's almost like we're living in a time where all the conceived and imagined ideas of the past are now finally feasible. It truly is great that we're the ones that are able to witness this." - So inspiring Dagogo. I think the same way. Thank you very much. I love your channel.
+Ingiomar Martina i agree Microsoft owns 80% of a lot of devices and machines, and some we may not know they have. Like did you know they make hearing aids and medical devices? All embroidery machines run windows CE. Practically every machine runs windows because its more reliable and cheap. Notice why there all using windows XP still. I don't know if you guys remember when the big breaches were happening. Also, the panic the banking industry was in when Microsoft pulled the support on XP, as 90% of all ATM's run windows. Which would be a big problem, if they got breached due to no more updates to the software. If you take Microsoft out of the picture, the world would be in trouble. Look most big programs were coded in Microsoft tools like Visual Studios, which all the big game studios still use. Game Engines cant work without a coding program. Look visual studio is now offered with Unity automatically for free.
great Jobs on this video. I enjoyed this video very much, and as always I find your videos to be informative, entertaining, and the production is of a professional quality that many channels seem to be lacking.
Microsoft is so innovative, they were decades ahead of their time and it's just now people are realizing the uses of what they showed years ago. For instance, the Surface Pro is an evolution of what was shown in 2002, but now thinner and with a detachable keyboard, and even Apple's toyPad Pro still can't match it's versatility/capabilities today...but as usual, Apple just matches the price.
+Ahmad A. Wow... Do you know how much surface costs? I was like "Games and touch screen and photoshop and portability" and I saw the price and went "Gush Dell or Mac book is better for me".
Vijay Bhaskar Haha, yes I know how much it costs, I own a Surface Pro 2. You probably have no idea what it offers, that's why you're going for a MacBook of the same price. Hint: it's a MacBook + a toyPad + a Wacom Cintiq selling at the price of a mono MacBook... MacBooks are inferior and overpriced in so many ways. Only their price tag matches the competition, everything else, they're underwhelming for their price tag.
I know about Surface. Am an artist and a gamer and a surface pro is great for what I want but what's not so great is surface pro 3 priced at $800 and with an i3 procesor which barely competes with macbook pro with i5 and priced at $750. That affects rendering. Also if I can get Dell or Lenovo, i can game and I might not have the best touch screen but I can compromise for what I can get for $600 laptop. Surface pro is a great thing and got me excited but I gush it is over priced just like a Mac and I might wait a bit longer for it to drop. BTW I don't choose Apple over Windows or vice versa, I just choose what gets my work done.
Vijay Bhaskar Hahaha, you're comparing an old used mono MacBook to a brand new 3-in-1 Surface price? That's just silly, why not compare to the older Surface Pro 1/2 which are also now lower price? Regardless, that's still only a Laptop, you're still going to need to buy a toyPad + Wacom board to match what the Surface offers... If you don't desire the functions offered by the Surface, that's good for you, no one is putting a gun to your head to buy more than you desire. But calling it overpriced 'cause you're not going to use what it offers is just imbecilic logic. Apple doesn't offer what the Surface does, yet they price their devices the same, that's what makes it inferior and overpriced. Not you turning a blind eye to what the product offers.
Am not saying Apple is under priced and yes might be old but still has a better processor which is a huge thing for me for using photoshop, illustrator and premier. It's not always about old tech or new but which is better. And I use Asus laptop for browsing web, viewing pictures, skyping and stuff while travelling and it cost $250 and I often wonder when laptops are specd 2 times my Asus but are priced 3 times as much.Apple mostly charges high because there is no competition against them using their own software. But as for surface, am pretty sure some other brand will introduce similar product for $100-$200 cheaper but until then surface is over priced because of the same reason, no one is in competition yet.
Hi @ColdFusion I really like your videos ,great quality and i'm always learning something .My favorite series that you make is the "How big is..." series.See, i have an interest in telecom and I was wondering if you could make a how big is Verizon or AT&T . Thank You
Great video. Very informative and you have a great voice. Just a question: How do you generate the female voice at the beginning? ("You're watching ColdFusion TV") Is it computer generated or someone speaks it out? (Seems to be the former to me, and so which software do you use?)
I think you should do a video that expands on the last point. That being that many of the things we use today were first made or envisioned 20 to 50 years ago. Some even longer past.
Steve Jobs stole the idea of a tablet. He was at a Microsoft party and someone was bragging about a product that they were making. This was the first ever tablet, it ran windows XP. Steve thought that he could do it better, but while making the Apple tablet. The iPhone was invented.

+jaypob Rise and fall and the split.
So he says that he'd never used a PC in his life and he just doesn't like them... How can you not like something if you've never tried it?
+wowitsbryce Because the guy is an arrogant douchebag. He nows music but lacks computerskills thats why he uses a mac.
He was being figurative for sure. Cause it's literally impossible to not have used a Pc even in late 90's, especially today. Someone who has worked at Apple even, I 20000x favor desktop/laptop Win 7, Ios for mobile. There's almost no point on OSX except for decreased virus rates.
+wowitsbryce Probably because they looked so darn ugly. If you used computers in the 90s you would know how ugly they were.
+LxC When it comes to creative professionals Mac is almost the only way to go. ***** Now that's a whole different story haha
You should get your own tv show!
TV is dying m8.
***** I meant Live TV :P
+Ninja4editS live TV won't die packaged channel will so in the future you pick your own channel
+DVMovies1999
No, he should stay on youtube.
Sooooo, if it weren't for Microsoft, Apple wouldn't exist?! This is like the best news I've heard in ages!😄
Without Apple, Microsoft wouldn't exist. Most of early Microsoft products were sold for Apple II's.
True, though they originally worked for IBM
That was at the beggining because later, they became independed, they could have survived without Apple though; but Microsoft helping Apple was a MAJOR thing or Apple wouldn't exist today
And a duopoly is much more stable than a monopoly. No one thinks about the third company
I guess monopoly increase the profits of a company.
Why would a company wants to have competitors??
i love your videos fantastic content :)
+david wiedemeier Cheers David!
ColdFusion thanks man as i said you make awesome videos.
+ColdFusion I love your videos
agreed
agreed
The funny thing is, there was a Microsoft ad before this video
LOL
God damn Comic Sans... Every time a teacher uses it in their handouts or it's used on a website, I just want to cry in a corner.
I lol'd when he said Bob gave the world Comic Sans. Just when we thought Bob couldn't fuck up anymore, he leaves behind another fuck up
Who noticed that a Dog shown in "BOB" part. Which is actually in Windows XP search.... 3:29 .
The quality of your videos are amazing / but the highlight is your voice / awsm bro cheers
"I just don't like them" Most Apple fanboy answer ever.
I know right?
apple fanboys be like crying in the corner!!! :D :p

microsoft and apple should team up alot more often on pojects
Gribgrab back then it was cool. right now apple needs to suffer from its actions.
I rarely leave a comment, but your videos are truly inspiring! Great content, very nice atmospheric DNB on the background combined with a powerful voice. Cheers!
you and your videos should be worldwide on TV documentary channels!
I if ever wanted to know the story of a certain company or an invention, ColdFusion never lets me down, keep it up man!
I was going to eat a bagel for breakfast this morning, but then I didn't.
But why? :(
+Don Williams oh no
+Don Williams That's something Fox might report on, you should tell them.
Hey Sackboy ( :
you are the most honest and talented youtuber of all time.
you know how to maake us stuck with the screen and just look at videos for houts!
Cheers!
I said at the beginning, during the advert, because of the title, if I knew any of the facts, I would dislike the video, so well done ColdFusion.
Your videos are extremely inspiring. Please never stop making them.
"It's almost like we're living in a time where all the conceived and imagined ideas of the past are now finally feasible. It truly is great that we're the ones that are able to witness this." - So inspiring Dagogo. I think the same way. Thank you very much. I love your channel.
That Windows 95 sound sounds like the best microsoft startup sound of all Windows versions that I have heard.
TAKE THAT APPLE YOU COULDN'T EXIST WITHOUT MICROSOFT HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
+saiftakrim10101 are u sure about that? hahahahah!
+saiftakrim10101 do you even know how big ms is?
+yveml yvemls Apple is bigger and has more money. Apple has over 216 billion dollars in cash while Microsoft only has about 108 billion in cash.
+Ingiomar Martina what a argument man

I have to say DNB is my favorite genre, really makes these videos even more special for me. Thanks for your hard work on these!
This channel is very unique. Im glad i found this channel. The content is awesome. Theres nothing like it on youtube to be found like this on tech.
the one who dislike this video most likely are Isheep that cant Accept apple been rescued by Microsoft
Oh yeah! I was a 90s kid (age 8-18) and that sound immediately brought back all sorts of memories!
Microsoft surface book video please!
Surprised you didn't mention the fact that MS also developed the "Tablet PC" years before the iPad.
it's weird hearing the intro voice saying "coldfusion" almost wrote "T" there. Thank you for a great video.
Random frame after 5:04?????

Why on earth has National Geographic not put your show on their station... you're awesome

i have recommended this to many friends :)
i really want this channel to grow!
New to your videos and i love them! Amazing quality!
I had a kick ass VR experience in a mall somewhere in florida. That was back in the early ... early... 90's I had wondered if this was just a dream or it actually happened... but it did. This video brings about a very valid point, that all the dream tech of the 90's has become, reality. Welcome to the future everyone. Now lets go to mars already!
Before clicking: Aha, a click bait!
After clicking: Just another awesome CF video.
I already knew four out of these 5, but still very interesting! I didn't know that Brian Eno composed the 95 startup music - My youth shows, though - my first memories of Windows is XP - now that music brings back memories!

I really enjoy your Videos , you us give a lot of interesting info without rambling on .I especially appreciate the history behind todays tech.
Thanks for the effort you put in to bring us these great vidoes.
Responding to your question at the end, I think that invention of Tablet PC way ahead of its time is a notable thing.
great film as always.
do one on Coldfusion please. much ground has been covered since 1998 and Martin Fleischman RIP.
I love you videos. History of computers and tech is so important to today's society.
I learned so much from you great videos you have a great way of putting together information
You have amazing skill for editing videos.
Psychological standpoint, attaching music piece to a brand is another way of engraining the brand into the brain. Just like how writing notes down by hand increases the efficiency/strength of that note. Also, you'd be suprised how many ideas were initially developed or made hundreds of years ago and simply were too far ahead in their time. Always going to happen, watch the things we talk about/imagine today, 20 years from now will be completely normal.
Love the videos so glad you changed your name or always sound like this but an audio cut out on the T. Was annoying
Your channel is so good! Brings me into a reflexive state. What's the next Easter egg? How can I be part of it and profit from it?
Dude your videos are amazing can you make a video on the gaming industry like about its rise and all
A video on the past and future of IBM and where we will see them in the future?
Microsoft also created the first tablets...
Please do a video about SAP and keep up the good work.
That SPOTWATCH is, I think, the most advanced as well as the most underrated product from Microsoft of which Microsoft failed to see the potential.
Great channel
Man ur videos are great and appreciable... I respect your work....
i didn't know about the watch. this is very interesting. great vid. i kearn something new every time.
i love your work! great job!
it would be great if you can do a video on the best smartphone in the market?
the truth is Apple products just got a different status symbol which not everyone understands.
The data transmission medium for the Timex Data-Link is an older version of Li-Fi correct?
I like the "top 5 lists" that actually teach me something new! +1 subscriber, gonna check out the other vids. Good job, thank you :)
you're awesome, I love your videos. can you make one about the foundation and rise of Microsoft, and that dispute with Apple?
