Kind of sad...Born and raised in CT. Moved out in '99...stayed out until 2017, then? Moved back because I missed my old friend and family. WORST mistake of my life! Now in 2018...Unemployed for over a year, I live with my sister as I can't afford to live anywhere else. Traffic? Why is that not on this list? Yea it sucks here, and I can't wait to leave again and NEVER return!
Hello, I am currently living in California and almost graduating college, but am looking to move to another state and Connecticut caught my attention! Would you be able to tell me why you dislike it (the pros and cons of the state) Any information would be greatly appreciated!
I moved back after living in Atlanta for 3 years to be with my longtime girlfriend and future wife. We both hate it here. I wouldn’t call it a mistake but more of a setback to make our relationship work that being said we plan to move out in the next 3-4 years.
i have lived in ct my whole life. i dream of leaving. soon. its sad, because it is actually a naturally beautiful state. but the state has been destroyed by bad political policy over the last 30 years. we used to have many great companies here, Pfizer, GE, most of the firearms industries were founded here, we have Pratt and Whitney, we used to have Hamilton Standard, Stanley Tools used to manufacture in New Britain , Goodyear Tire was founded in Naugatuck, ct. etc. The question is why have all these world class innovative industries left ct? i know times change but geez ! You can say the same about a lot of New England, as far as world class innovative industries going bust and folding up, Detroit (not in new england) is the same .WHY? its policy, regulation, etc. Ct. had the world's largest thread manufacturer , AMERICAN THREAD CO. in Willimantic, ct. gone. Great Northern Paper Co. , worlds largest was in Millinocket, Maine, gone. Why? thread and paper are still made, in fact they are billion dollar industries world wide, but now they are made in Pakistan, Malaysia, indonesia, etc...
I know what you mean Andrew, Growing up the Black and Decker's factories used to be in BPT until the 90's. Now all those warehouses and factories are either empty or turned into expensive studio apartments for New York hipsters to reside in. Sad.
Chris Sproles don’t be stupid, you will pay the tariffs, not China not us business. Tariff cannot save local businesses. CT needs local supportive policies, not tariffs. Insurance companies are moving out from CT and China do not export insurance to the US.
That is why Connecticut sucks now. The Socialist New Yorkers moved here starting in the 70's to escape the high taxes your socialist democrat politicians gave you. Not learning from your mistakes, you guys move here and vote for the same type of big government tax and spend socialist democrats
I also moved from Queens to CT 19 years ago and it's never felt like home to me. The people are different, a trip to Walmart is like a highschool reunion everyone knows eachother and everyone is in every one else's business. This state is also for rich people and coming from NY, I agree there isn't that much to do in terms of the state being boring. NY is non stop it can be 3am and you can still find something to do. I'm hoping to move when I'm done with school. My cousin just moved out of CT due to the same issues. I don't know but it just seems like a dead end.
The fact of the matter is that most 99 % outer borough New Yorkers are socialist- anti gun leftist. The marxist ashkanazi jews had control of your media and education systems.Nothing I said is untrue
Nathan Peterman Yeah, despite all the taxes and cost of living it's stellar education system is truly amazing and something that easily distinguishes it from other states.
I live in Los Angeles now but was born and raised in Connecticut and I miss it every day. The weather is beautiful, even our vicious winter snowstorms. I love the shoreline, the lakes, the malls, the farmers markets and the little coffee shops and bars, and of course I miss my family.

Westhaven CT Newhaven is a dump ! But it's peaceful but not much to do just all around boring the schools are way better then down south schools and nyc schools so Ct gets pointers in that department....
Yah! My elementary school was like all the school having assemblies for kindness and stuff and said that we should all be friends and the teachers actually cared 4 bullying and barely noticed 'the having ur hood up at school is banned' rule. Also the air always smells like cowpoop in the summer and there's a lot of farms there. Also the town I live in is really nice, like this one time an old lady fell out of the car of her car and was struggling to get up and I pointed it out and my dad was like "we're going to help her forget school we need to help." and so my dad helped her and a bunch of people saw and helped her like they were like "we were doing something…oh well the lady's more important we need to help" and soon a whole crowd was helping her and someone called the ambulance and she is fine I think. But like that day was super wholesome. (I live in CT) this was way too long
@@Ghostiibat sounds like you love CT, I have lived in CT my entire life (49yrs) , I am sick of it myself and planning to move to a warmer place...glad to here you like it..your comment made me smile...thanx
My perspective of Connecticut (Middletown specifically, right in the middle of the state): Pros: - Pretty weather for 2/3 of the year, especially fall - Good restaurants - Great hiking - Pretty scenery - Not far from Boston and New York - Great rural/organic products because of so many farms - If there is something exciting going on in Connecticut, it is small so it can't be far away Cons: - Winter is a bitch - Terrible economy - High taxes - People here are really rude - Not much to do, unless you travel to a city
once a year car taxes here...depends on the town or city...you can cut your car taxes...by buying a older creampuff...and learn how to do your own repairs/maintenance...my car taxes for THREE vehicles is $120.00 a year..if you do it right...you can also apply to protest your car taxes...and get them lowered...
Oh God! Do you know how bad it gets with Waterbury? You get one train every 3 hours (you have to switch trains if you’re going beyond Bridgeport), it takes 10 years to get to Danbury unless you can drive, and even going to Bristol you’re better off taking a bike. Hell, there used to not be a transit link to Hartford!
Lived here most of my life. Imagine having to live in your grandmothers house with a midnight curfew and your room is right next to hers. Then having to pay half the mortgage and the car note. Also, you’re forced to rub shoulders with her old friends as they turn their noses up towards you for being a young person who wants to have fun. CT living in a nutshell.
@@nmchackedaccountnunyahack9940 Since the first time I saw Downtown Bridgeport was not so long ago but they should be finished by now IT'S STILL IN CONSTRUCTION AND NOBODY WORKS ON IT
Hi kasey only the rich kids like Connecticut and it's true what you say it's boring I live here all my life and when people talk down on Florida they got the best views and sunshine Connecticut is only good for business and school but to have fun all the time No way
usvc1 Montville is Great! It has towns like Uncasville, Oakdale,Chesterfield,Mohegan,And there is a lot of schools 1 high school,4 elementary Schools,1 middle school. That I know about
smart thinker you'd have to be here to understand. This guy wasn't lying about #1. I'd rather be in a big place with more options than a small place whose know to have higher taxes and insurance.
I'm from CT originally. I moved to TX a year ago. Everything Briggs says is 100% spot on. Many people are leaving CT, and many businesses have left over the years from CT. It's like they want people to leave
I just moved out of Connecticut to Florida. Connecticut is so boring, the thing that was good was the pay.$$ Florida is crazy and fun. Live on beach now
I actually love living in CT. Probably because I’m still young. We live in the woods and I love it. We are still close to Quassy and Lake Compounce. And I could easily walk to town. Also I live really close to a state park so it’s really fun going there. I like living here. It’s fun!
I’m from The Bronx & loved living in Stamford! I could slide down to the Bronx or anywhere in NYC which kept me close to home. I love the shoreline, food, & small town feel but being city at the same time. It is expensive but most places are.
Yeah i feel like this video Is talking about the.more northern part of the state lol. Lower Fairfield county, like Bridgeport, Norwalk, Stamford are all pretty fun to me. Its close to NYC also. The down sides are that it is expensive and traffic of 95 is ridiculous
Connecticut is very anti-self defense to. Recently a CT man working at Dunkin Donuts was assaulted by 3 guys; the worker stabbed one of the attackers in the leg, and was sentenced to jail for 18 months....Maybe the UK should claim CT, because it's very draconian concerning self defense there also.
Wrong, try Florida. There is so much traffic here that you sit at lights for ever. 8 mile ride to the beach takes 20 min I still rather be here than Connecticut
I find this funny because a lot of the bad stuff is outside Fairfield county. And one of the best things to do in Fairfield county is to get on a train to nyc
Born in CT, couldn't pay me enough to go back. You nailed it. Bonus fact: Hartford might not even crack the top 10 worst cities in CT. Bridgeport, Waterbury, Meriden, Willimantic, New Britain, New Haven, and others make Hartford look not so awful.
Why is everyone so dumb? because you didn't go to school in CT? I live in New Britain there isn't anything wrong with it. It's certainly not up there with the bad cities you mentioned. You should feel grateful to be around more intelligent people overall. You move anywhere but the NE and the west coast people are dumb as rocks.
Meriden isn’t so bad. Yet. The taxes are definitely ridiculous and makes it hard to do anything. No one even wants to own anything anymore, people would rather rent or lease.
Moved out of that dump two years ago I am so glad I did. They want to put toll booths everywhere! They were thinking about starting a mileage tax! They would tax you on how many miles you drive per year!!! We all ready paid gas tax, state income tax and car tax. Place is a money pit. I’ll never go back!!
tanica thompson haha sorry. I live in TN now. No more car tax, no more state income tax and my property taxes on my house are about 60% cheaper. 🖕🏾CT LOL
I live in CT and work in NY. There are literally no jobs, it's a joke. Other than that, the shoreline is one of the most beautiful, quiet, safe, quaint places. Also, our school systems along the shoreline are very good.
No jobs in CT? Are you insane?? lol you call 4.5% unemployment rate lack of jobs? I was born and raised in PR. I've been here 4 years and I have had at least three jobs paying over 65k/year.
Theres no middle class in CT anymore. Either your making miminal wage or your white collar. Basically just making it by or Living the life by the shore.
I'm a transplant to the state of CT. I've made a lot of money here. I could make more elsewhere. You're telling the truth. I intend to move too! I have to go home to go on vacation where we have sand, beaches, mountains, streams, and homes that aren't falling down. I've never seen so much graffiti, potholes, and so few parks! You're correct about the capitol city, Hartford sucks!
I love living in Connecticut and working in Hartford. Despite the ineffective government and high taxes, there's plenty to do here and the quality of life is amazing. The reason I work is so I can enjoy the the abundant mountain biking, hiking, boating, lakes, and the shore. And yes we have real oceanfront and beautiful beaches. The variety of food in non-chain establishments is extensive and you can't find better seafood anywhere else in the world. There's also tremendous culture and history throughout the state. When family and friends visit they are always impressed with the region and they can't wait to return. New England weather is burley, but the constant changing of seasons presents new opportunities and the contrast can be spectacular! And if your're not satisfied with what we have in our own backyard, it's a short drive to NYC, Boston, Vermont, or New Hampshire.
Everytime he defended himself like, "Don't come after me".. as someone born and raised and currently living in this garbage state, no one wants to be here unless its your vacation home. No ones coming for you. You're 100% right.
I was born and raised in Connecticut and left thirty years ago ,I moved to new Jersey another dump and now I live in Pennsylvania which I find to be a step up
lonelyman1967 all we have are people yelling at you about being unemployed, not realizing it’s the worst finding a job, especially as as a young person relying on the bus line here in this state.
upopen, I am in CT. The VAST majority is broke. When the property taxes on a "normal" 3 bedroom 2 bad house is more than $10,000 per year, you HAVE TO HAVE an "above average" income just to live paycheck to paycheck.
Don't forget places like Litchfield, Farmington, Salisbury, Lakeville as well... The rural towns have lower mill rates which mean lower property taxes. The highest mill rates in the state are Hartford, Waterbury, Bridgeport... Notice a trend here?
Jennifer, Litchfield = 27.70 mills, Farmington = 27.18 mills, Salisbury = 11.30 mills. The 'cookie cutter' 3 bedroom/2 bath in Litchfield would pay roughly $6300 per year, in Farmington roughly $7700 per year, and in Salisbury roughly $13,000 per year. Rough values of house prices pulled from 3 bedroom/2 bathroom houses CURRENTLY available on the MLS, and assumed all assessed values are 70% of market value. Those are your "cheap" examples?
Growing up I loved going to Black Rock. It's the in-between of Bridgeport and Fairfield. I used to live in the westside of BPT so it wasn't so bad. A lot of New Yorkers (mainly from the Bronx) would either live in Conn. or work there which explains the terrible somewhat New York accents.
Vegan Buddhist yeah I'm still in the Hartford area. we can meet up and burn one, I'm not too concerned about that. We can see if I'm comfortable helping you out after that.
Gov Malloy - Creating Jobs in 49 States.... Anyone looking for a Job in East Hartford, there is about to be one more opening in a few weeks..... Raising my middle finger in the air as I cross that God forsaken state line for one last time.... all you lefties can keep all of this wonderfulness for yourselves...
I went to Connecticut this year after moving away 30 years ago and wow I was so surprised how it took a flying dump. Downtown Bridgeport was in many states of decay and demolition. The trees are consuming the entire city all the way past Trumbull and the schools look like they were abandoned. I was deeply embarrassed
Aw someone is salty about Connecticut I lived here my whole life it's not that bad sure the government needs to change a few things but it's not as bad as you're making it sound and there are plenty of things to do here if you know where to go
I've lived here my entire life and I regret it. I hope my children choose to leave and don't look back. For all the reasons stated on the video and then some.
I know what you mean fam. I’ve lived here my entire life and I like it. The government is screwed up but all in all Connecticut has been a great place to grow up
Connecticut is only "good" in the suburbs and knit communities which any other state has. I am moving to Mass as soon as I get the chance, but it'll be hard with the insane taxes here. most important companies are leaving and with that leaving many unemployed and having to go for low paying jobs where they work hours on end to make ends meet. The most relevant part of the state is the casinos and that XL Center. Oh yeah and we have Yale but that didnt change much. I want out. Ive been to MA a lot and it has almost always been a better experience in the corresponding parts of the state than ct.
Yeah it friggin great me and my buddies go off-roading and shooting guns and to the swap meet in stafford all the people who says it’s boring are just city slickers with no imagination
It's the truth though! Bet you can't name 5 things off the top of your head besides family and friends that are keeping you here or are just kinda "ok" about this state. What town are you from...or county if you don't wanna answer? Just curious
First time in Connecticut I stopped by a bar while waiting on a ferry for Block Island, the bartender was a really run down lady in her 40's or 50's, nasty looking, no bra on, probably missing some teeth. I asked for a Yuengling Lager, her response was "Whats that?" "We don't serve no college beer here." in a real snappy voice, needless to say, I've had no desire to return to Connecticut since.
Connecticut is toxic...They have buildings close to collapsing still standing. A school was supposed to be demolish in 2016. But it's 2018 and still not down...And the people are weird and crazy! I live in Hartford. It's so crappy
I live in Fairfield county and we are completely different from the rest of Connecticut. Honestly, Stamford is an amazing city for millennials and entertainment all around... South Norwalk is gorgeous and full of bars too. Greenwich is where you’ll find some of the most money in the world, and Darien is literally the richest per capita town in the country. There’s beautiful lakes and woods, and construction is happening everywhere to expand the area. I understand the faults about the rest of the state, but being where I live I would say Fairfield county is more like New York than it is Connecticut.
Jarrod Marx that's why none of the rest of us really consider Fairfield county as a part of CT. It's the Borderlands to us (Hartford county), more NY than CT... And my damn family is from there.
I agree with these comments. Hits the nail on the head, I am from Westbrook and east of CT river is a very different place than the west of the state and even more different than Fairfield county.
I get super excited when my state is mentioned even if it’s in a bad way.

My perspective of Connecticut (Middletown specifically, right in the middle of the state):
Pros:
- Pretty weather for 2/3 of the year, especially fall
- Good restaurants
- Great hiking
- Pretty scenery
- Not far from Boston and New York
- Great rural/organic products because of so many farms
- If there is something exciting going on in Connecticut, it is small so it can't be far away
Cons:
- Winter is a bitch
- Terrible economy
- High taxes
- People here are really rude
- Not much to do, unless you travel to a city
Unless you're rich forget about living here. I'm going to save up to get the hell out of here.

Also, people in Connecticut have to pay annual car property taxes -_-
Thanks for reminding me..
Every6 months
They do tolls or mileage tax that might be the straw that broke that camel for me
once a year car taxes here...depends on the town or city...you can cut your car taxes...by buying a older creampuff...and learn how to do your own repairs/maintenance...my car taxes for THREE vehicles is $120.00 a year..if you do it right...you can also apply to protest your car taxes...and get them lowered...
Yep and car Taxes twice a year.
Everyone who lives in CT knows the only scary thing here is taxes and public transportation.
yup
I used to ride the metro north train from Clinton to Bridgeport and back every week day!
Yup, for the most part but he does have a point that it’s largely boring and cost of living is certainly high.

Bonus fact: Hartford might not even crack the top 10 worst cities in CT. Bridgeport, Waterbury, Meriden, Willimantic, New Britain, New Haven, and others make Hartford look not so awful.
WTBY might be the worst of these because of depressive life. I knew a bunch of friends who just offed themselves from boredom alone.
New Haven ALWAYS ranks number 1 on the list of dangerous cities in CT.

You're correct about the capitol city, Hartford sucks!
I also live in connecticut and hartford does suck

“Vast majority is broke” ct is within the top 10 riches states New Canaan, Wilton, Daren, ridge field, Greenwich?
Numbers don't lie. Google it.
Connecticut is the 6th wealthiest state in America.
www.usnews.com/news/best-states/slideshows/10-wealthiest-states-in-america
upopen, I am in CT.
Thanks Dan Malloy

Growing up I loved going to Black Rock. It's the in-between of Bridgeport and Fairfield. I used to live in the westside of BPT so it wasn't so bad. A lot of New Yorkers (mainly from the Bronx) would either live in Conn. or work there which explains the terrible somewhat New York accents.
