always struggled to 'visualise' panning in my tracks, but your explanation has been a game changer, just adjusted the panning on my new track today and it has worked wonders! thanks luke, always love the tutorials
All of your videos have been super helpful Luke thank you!!! Maybe a scratching tutorial? Or just a quick explanation on how you use scratching as a transition technique
I may be missing some episode (cause I haven’t watched them all... yet...), but have you ever made a talk about how mobile and flexible are your performances? What do you take to the trip (like, a bunch of USB thumb drives with music? your laptop with Recordbox/Engine Prime? whole Denon set?), what do your require to be present in your tech rider (do you request the Denons to be available? what if the previous DJ uses the Pioneers? how do they do a smooth switch without stopping the music?), and what can you adapt to (no Denons? that’s bad, but well let’s do it on Pioneers)? How does it vary depending on the scale of the performance (like, a gig in a club versus a huge festival)? For me it is just a curiosity, but it may be rather useful for real starting DJs.
Oh Luke, just trying to gather as much knowledge as i can with producing but there is literally so much and im guessing its something one does never stop learning about which makes it all the more beautiful. So much to learn, so much to go through. I hope one day i can look back and smile to you after making a collab and say "remember when i was researching what e.q and panning was?" I hope.....
Thank you for taking the time for these vlogs as well Luke they're like gold dust. Even if i feel i haven't understud some of them. When i keep going back over them, i really do end up getting what you're explaining. Thanks again :)
When Laidback Luke's hotel balcony is bigger than your house... :) lol Thanks for taking us along with you! Love what you do. By the way, I bought "It's Time", and dropping at a wedding Saturday...the groom is a huge UFC fan. They even had Bruce Buffer record a voice over that I'm going to use when introducing them into the wedding reception. Definitely going to post a vlog of that wedding! :)
Luke can you made a vlog on your music library? How you curate it and and discover new music? For example how many songs are on your USB drive? How you determine what goes into the USB from your 1000+ music library for the road
Don't forget people. Collapsing to mono the low part in izotope (or any thing similar) won't fix or reduce phasing, mono compatibility issues. All it will do is apply the issue to your stereo mix, as well as your mono mix.
So just recently watching your Mashup Vlog...again. I was wondering if you can do a part 2 because that was basically just for putting an acapella on it. How do you do mashups for shows were you have more than one track on top of each other, bringing in certain elements from one track to the track being played to indicate a change coming, changing the bass from the current track and bringing in the bass from the track about to drop, etc. Also, how do you setup your radio show with your tracks, do you do it on a DAW or live, and how do you change tracks within the mix? Thanks Luke!
This may be the best technical vlog you did. Congrats! Also I would like to listen wich, in your opinion, is the best way to select songs to practice DJing for the wannabes (like me). And where do you think we (mortals) should get new music? I signed up DJ City once but gave up because it's 98% trash and 1% known stuff, living very little to discover and use... Thanks for your great work here and keep it up!
Yo Luke you blew my mind when you added La Chona to your Ultra set. The whole set was awesome. Hey what remix of the song " rock in with the best are you playing in this vlog.
I love how you say izotopie in stead of Izotope. Their plug ins are so useful. I especially like your tips on stereo image phase issues and how to avoid them. Not news to me but couldnt be said enough.
I would recommend having a Correlation-meter on you lead-bus! To see the correlation between all your leads within your lead bus. you can still have phasing issues in the lead-bus when you put a correlation-meter on your master..
Thank for the tips, very well explained! Maybe you could add a little bit on Mid/side mastering as well, another feature in Ozone and is related to your tutorial. Keep up the great work Luke, and share your knowledge and love for the music :-)
Hey Luke! I might be performing my first gig at my old highschools prom (hasn't been confirmed yet), I only graduated 2 years ago and my brother will be graduating so I know a LOT of the people that will be attending and it should be at least a couple hundred people. A little bit of nerves already! Just wondering if you have any advice for that type of gig!
Hey Luke could you elaborate a bit on producing in mono? Does that mean you put a mono plugin on each chain to produce like on the synths etc. ? Also, I assume once your levels are right then you inject a stereo element and so do you just insert a panning plugin and leave the mono plugin still there? And then at the end as you mentioned in the video, you use ozone. Also, so that means when you are layering synths, you don’t focus on the panning of synths until they sound good in mono? Thanks! If anyone could help me out it would be appreciated! Always heard about producing in mono but always wondered what it really meant.
Please tell us about NETWORKING. How are some DJ's so good in networking & what is the different ways for networking! Appreciate if you would make a vlog on the topic!! :)
This is something I’ve been focusing on lately. Recommend everyone to listen to all their favourite tracks with headphones to get ideas on what to pan.
Hey Mr Luke, just a little note for the thumbnail, can't see the number of the vlog when it's down in the right corner due to the length of the video covering it. Love the vlogs though :)
This vlog is exactly what i need right now with my production! So next week the vlog should start like this: Hey What’s up, this is Laidback Luke, DJ & Producer, Mindreader, Kung Fu Athlete and Dedicated Dad! :-p
I use that izotope imager on master, and I never knew about trying to keep it around +1. I need to start panning more on individual tracks! Good input.
are you coming back to ministry of sound this year ? I was so bummed when you cancelled last minute... On an another note, Hardwell in the O2 Brixton was insane !
Hey Luke! I had a question about panning for low end. A lot of the time I hear people talk about having a wide bass. They usually achieve this by adding a dimension expander or additional voices, doesn't this take the bass out of mono? Maybe I am understanding this incorrectly, any advice would be greatly appreciated! Love how informative your vlogs are!
gotta help you out with that color grade tho Brotha! love your videos whats a good starting music program to invest in when just starting to play/make music?
Ableton has different versions. There is one, which just comes with the basic stuff. It's by far cheaper than the complete version. That's a good way to start I think. And if you're really serious about making music, you can easily upgrade aswell.
Reaper's a very low risk option as the demo is fully featured and non-expiring. It's a very powerful DAW with a ton of features, awesome routing capabilities(unlimited sends etc) and very customizable.
Hi Kuya Luke! Would love if you can get more personal and talk about your upbringing by your Filipina mom and Dutch father! Always love knowing more about the "person"! :)
You REALLY should have your own MasterClass
When Luke's room is bigger than your house...
I guess you could say he has a bigroom house!! (im sorry)
Nathan Burke his “bigroom” is bigger than my “minimal house” 😂😂
SBRN I like what you did there
Lol i hate to be TECHnical about my house but..lol
always struggled to 'visualise' panning in my tracks, but your explanation has been a game changer, just adjusted the panning on my new track today and it has worked wonders! thanks luke, always love the tutorials
The word your are looking for at 4:40 is Sub Bass which is inaudible but can be felt. Sub bass is commonly below 100Hz.
Hands down ! The most down to earth celebrity DJ ever ! 😎
agree!
So thankful for this information! And Glad I got to catch you twice at ultra!!!!!
I love the way you explain everything. This is super useful for us producers trying to get another step farther on our tunes. Much love Luke!

Yooo, was at your show in Los Angeles @ Club Exchange. Amazing job sir, i was blown away. Thank you for all this info, good stuff.

1st comment and i love you luke, and what is your opinion of any type of hard music such as terror, uptempo hardcore, hardcore, or frenchcore
what editing software do you use Luke ? Final Cut or Adobe or any other one ?

Hey Mr Luke, just a little note for the thumbnail, can't see the number of the vlog when it's down in the right corner due to the length of the video covering it. Love the vlogs though :)
That’s cool, I use izotope as well. Question, when and how should I use the sterilize function?

Matthew Beavers I think he accidentally doubled his color grading adjustment layer at 0:55 the rest seems pretty fine tho
VESCU I think your right I've done that before too!
Try out as much different DAW's as you can, all depends on your capability to adapt to it and how your workflow will go with
Reaper's a very low risk option as the demo is fully featured and non-expiring. It's a very powerful DAW with a ton of features, awesome routing capabilities(unlimited sends etc) and very customizable.
Thanks man, thsi tutorial are really helpfull
Can you please do a vlog and explain how to calculate between large bpm to beatmatch without using sync when you dj
How about a Vlog with Steve Aoki on how you did your song together?
Hi Kuya Luke! Would love if you can get more personal and talk about your upbringing by your Filipina mom and Dutch father! Always love knowing more about the "person"! :)
