I wanted to respond to your opening question. My parents had a record collection of mainly Motown, soul/R&B, and Elvis as far as I can remember. By the time I was born they weren't buying music for themselves and would listen to a station that played oldies and another that was not quite T40 for the time. They were big fans of Hee Haw (country music show) and would watch some Solid Gold (disco) every now and then. I started watching MTV in the mid 80s and let's say they didn't like everything that was on the channel. That said, my dad did love Guns N Roses Paradise City when it would hit MTV. The trip about the whole thing though, was my first ever cassette tape was Prince's Purple Rain soundtrack. Seeing Prince at that time on MTV and then getting that tape, made me wonder how they would have picked that out for me. As far as vinyl goes, I only had kids records but they did get me Michael Jackson's Thriller LP and I had an Elvis Greatest Hits LP.

The Doors, Iron Butterfly, Bob Wills, Patsy Cline. I have fished since he died.
