It has such a lot of history that I didn't know about Ann. I have been through Richmond many times but this was My first visit and I enjoyed it an the lovely weather. Thank you for your comments. Warm greetings, Julie.
Thank you for the video. Life moves on but the castle is exactly as it was 30 years ago when we’d all sneak in after hours on a weekend and look down on the town
Always nice to have happy memories. We have tried to visit it a few times but car parking was a problem. I was so pleased to see it that day as we managed to get one of the few places near the entrance to the castle. I enjoyed that day.Thank you for visiting my channel. Greetings, Julie.

Nice video we planned to tour castle on the town trail but were unable to do so due to work only was able to view from the square and the road heading into the dale
Hi Mark. I got you lovely message for my Butterflies in September video but, as usual, could not get back to you from there so I hope you receive this. Sad to hear you have drought as I know very dry weather reduced the number of butterflies we had in the garden in 2017 and 2018. The Swallowtails are beautiful but we do not see them in Yorkshire but I know they have been seen near the Norfolk Broads so I might get lucky if we get back there one summer for a holiday. I have only seen a Monarch once it a butterfly house. Hope some come to you to feed before long as it get cold soon. We have dull, wet weather with flooding in places this last week but not too bad near us. I am still hoping for a colourful Autumn before the days get shorter. We went to Scotland in August this year so I am busy getting my holiday videos edited ready to put on my channel. Warm greetings and, again, thank you for visiting my channel. Julie.
Hello Julie - interesting - many thanks - I like to watch this tour of the history - th up! All the best my friend - have a nice week - hugs and warm greetings Petra

Not only a lovely video, but a lot of research has gone into it and the information passed on both in the video itself and in the description. Much appreciated Julie. Things you miss when you're out on safari!!
Thank you Steve and welcome back from that wonderful safari. I watched your video with envy! Richmond Castle is so near us but we never got there until last year. More history to it then I thought. Have a good week looking at the happy times you had on your trip. Greetings, Julie.
Thank you Annemieka. The history of the castle was very interesting. I always wonder how they built these old castles all those years ago. Greetings, Julie.
Hi Julie, Seeing these old castles never ceases to amaze me. What a view from the top. I can only image what it would of looked like back then...Thank you for sharing this my friend...Th-Up...💘🕊🕊💘
Thank you Dee. It was a first visit and it isn't far from us but every time we went the car parking is in Richmond market and it was usually packed! It was a treat to see it at last. Warm greetings, Julie.
Complimenti Julie per queste bellissime riprese di questo meraviglioso Castello di Richmond. Grazie per la condivisione. Buona settimana. 👍 17. Ciao, Lorenzo.

This is quite near to us Brenda so quite shocking that it was my first visit. We got a lovey day and enjoyed the afternoon there. Warm greetings, Julie
Thank you for viewing. Richmond is not far from us but this was our first visit to the castle as it is in the town centre and so difficult to park the car. We were very lucky that day and I was so happy to, at last, walk around as it has such a lot of interesting history. It might help you to find a connection with The Castle of to visit the English Heritage, here is a link: www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/richmond-castle/ At the bottom of their web page they have "contact" It you click on it you can send a message and they may advise you on your interest in Richmond Castle. Hope you get some answers but you can but try. Good luck and thanks again for your visit. Have a happy weekend. Kind regards, Julie.
Was reading in two books on medieval architecture that Richmond castle's curtain walls resemble most those of Caen castle in Normandy (built c1060) and the castle was designed with ornamental features characteristic of the current Bayeux Cathedral (consecrated 14 July 1077) but may be older than the cathedral. Curiously, Richmond's "constructor" Alan Rufus was at Bayeux with Duke William, Bishop Odo and Harold Godwinson c1064 and the French say he was with William in Rouen in 1060. Alan had various family and professional connections with these gents: for example, c1050 Odo travelled to Rennes in Brittany to witness a charter by Alan's father Eudon, the Duke Regent. Eudon was an older maternal first cousin of King Edward of England ("the Confessor") and a double-cousin of Duke Robert, William's father. Odo's father Herluin was Viscount of Conteville, which though in Normandy was a site of a shrine to Saint Samson and thus ecclesiastically subordinate to the Bishop of Dol in Brittany. Odo may have been related to Count Guy of Ponthieu, as the rare name Herluin occurs as one of the Counts of Ponthieu in the early 900s. Interestingly, Ponthieu, which is east of Normandy in the Somme, also had ecclesiastic links to Brittany, dating back to Count Herluin's father Haelchod who sheltered the monks of Landevennec Abbey in western Brittany when the Loire Vikings forced them to seek refuge in distant lands (but how the monks crossed the whole of Normandy safely, I do not know). The monks built a shrine to their patron, Saint Winwaloe (called St Guénolé in French), at Montreuil-sur-Mer, an old Roman town that was then the capital of Ponthieu.
Thank you for visiting my channel and the historic information. I visit a lot of interesting castles and visited Craigmillar Castle, about 2 ½ miles from Edinburgh about a year ago. It is one of the most perfectly preserved medieval castles in Scotland surrounded by a Curtain Wall. The Castle dates back to 1374 so isn't as old as others I have seen over in the UK but still interesting. I put a video on my chanel of it in Mach 2016 if you want to see it. Have a great weekend. Greetings from North Yorkshire, Julie.
I was born in Richmond yorkshire England, in one of the homes near the castle, it was the stable at one time , converted into a home!!! Family names I am related to some are still there! Fawcett, who owned Fawcett's Meats . The Pikes . Mom's maiden name was Bickerdike!!
I am so pleased you enjoyed seeing Richmond Castle. We have tried to see it a few times but parking was always the problem but that day we were lucky to get one just outside the castle gates. I loved it. Much more to see than I thought with lots of history as well. North Yorkshire is where we live and a beautiful county and I long to get out and about again after we are allowed to with the Covid 19 lockdowns. Take care and stay safe. Warm greetings, Julie.
Richmond is quite near me but never got around to visiting the castle before. Managed to get a parking place this time and enjoyed the history of the castle on a lovely October day last year. Still have the same Nikon bridge camera, Geoff, but waiting to see what they will bring out next as I have just bought three new batteries that don't fit their latest p900 or I would have bought that one...might have 4K on their next one but will have to see. All the best, Julie.
Hi Pete, thank you for visiting. In England we like to think he was real and there is a Woodcut of Robin Hood, dated from the 17th-century. It is said he helped the poor who were treated badly by the Sheriff of Nottingham in c.1500 and in the reign of King John. I am not sure of all that but I still like the stories and Sherwood Forest does exist and attracts many visitors every year with many facts... true of not? .. about Robin Hood. I think the tower at Richmond was probably named only after the fifteenth century but why I have not found out. I think we have all got to make your own mind up on that one.. . Greetings, Julie.
Hello, Thank you for viewing Richmond Castle. Although I don't live far from it this was my first visit and I found it very interesting as are other castles I have visited in England and Scotland where there are many. When you get the chance it is good to go and see some and learn about them from your teachers. Enjoy the rest of your week. Greetings, Julie.

Thank you for viewing. We had tried to visit Richmond Castle many times but could never find a parking place. That day the car park was full, again. but we then found an empty place near the entrance that only takes 4-5 cars. We were both so pleased as it was a very interesting visit, I think the film of The Railway Children may have been made near Keighley but all parts of Yorkshire have a beauty of their own and Richmond is one of them in North Yorks. Thank you for viewing. Have a happy week. Greetings, Julie🌈🌞
Thank you so much. I enjoyed this visit as I have been trying to go there for a long time. The problem was that they do not have a car park, only the center town one and that is usually full. We we lucky that day and I enjoyed all the interesting past that castle has. Have a good day. Greetings, Julie.
I think that she must have been very wise. Nice to know we have a lot of History in Yorkshire but parking can be difficult near this castle as we have wanted to visit it long before we did. Thank you for viewing. Take care, Julie.

Alan Rufus would have been a wonderful king: he never let power or popularity go to his head, and he was both very savvy and mighty forgiving.
A very old castle, and its interesting to read this history...and see this castle ...what rested.
Thanks and greetings, Sarah.
Thank you Sarah. I didn't realise the castle had so much history and enjoyed seeing it. Warm greetings, Julie.
