I know this is an old comment, but I've had the same questions regarding radars as he did here. So how would you go about targeting the SAM's FCR specifically, rather than the SAM itself, if it's radar is tied to the same unit as the SAM? Or can you not target the FCR of a SAM site?
@@Solo6R the case you are describing sounds like an SA8 or SA17, basically every vehicle is a self sufficient system able to scan, target and shoot. In that case you have to disable every single unit in order to eliminate the threat

This is actually a really interesting topic. Sometimes you can presume that a radar has been destroyed if its signal vanishes exactly when the missile impacts. You could be wrong if the missile missed but someone switched it off in time. Figuring out what to believe based upon imperfect information is a difficult and fascinating topic. Go go intel!
I'm not sure how a satellite is going to help ascertain whether a fighter has been downed, let alone over the water. It's always entertaining hearing what people *think* satellites can do!
The time compression buttons for a minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes, that sort of thing, are so you can tell CMO to only fast forward time by those amounts. "I only want time to be accelerated for 15 minutes before it slows down again." This is so you dont forget to get out of fast forwarding and just start losing ships and planes because of the scenario blasting by in accelerated time.
The AN/ALE-50 is a towed radar decoy. As for the F-16 being called the Viper, it was named, unofficially, by a test pilot who saw one flying low along the ground. He said it resembled a viper, hence the name.
The version I've heard is they got the nickname after the starfighters from Battlestar Galactica (the first one, which aired around the time the Falcons started entering service)... it was a pretty futuristic design compared to, say, a Phantom, after all
I got this game on sale about a week ago, and the database over military equipment makes this VERY good value for money. Online resources typically require subscriptions, and prices are usually from 500 to 1500 dollars per year. One such site even cost 1500 dollars for a subscription that only provides information about tanks, and another one for other things, like jets, artillery, and so on. The cheapest option i checked out was a 1 year subscription for 250 dollars, and while i have not tried it, i kinda got the impression that the database in this game was probably better. I also did a QUICK/LIMITED search for kindle books, and the only one that seemed comparable or better than the CMO database, cost 750 dollars. I paid around 38 dollars for CMO, which includes a pretty sick simulator in addition to the surprisingly detailed database. Possibly the best value for money ive gotten in my 41 years on this planet 🤘
People complaining about the price, remember this program has a professional version used by several militaries for simulation purposes. This game is the most in-depth and realistic sim out there. So if that’s what you’re looking for, it’s worth the price because you won’t be getting that level depth in just about any game.
@@Idontuploadhereanymore Viper is just a nickname. Not a variant. Variants are denoted by the different "blocks" and alphabetical designations (A, B, C, D).

If you own CMANO you can get CMO for 50% off. Given the complexity and detail of this game I personally think they could easily justify a $100+ price tag. Steel Beasts pro the most advanced tank simulator is $100+. This game is so fast and complex I think the price is justified, it's more of a simulation than it is a game in all reality. With that said I understand everyone has their own perception of value and budgets, the great thing is historically CMANO has been discounted pretty heavily at various times. It's probably asking a bit much to expect them to put it massively on sale less than a month after launch but eventually they will, if history is any judge.
It's also kind of similar to DCS. Whereas the base game is free, DLC vehicles are the same if not more expensive than AAA titles because of the sheer content they provide due to it being a simulation. I'm also hoping this game goes on sale, but I can understand the price.
CMANO was supported for over 6 years with frequent database updates, patches, improved features, etc at no cost. Well worth the money. No reason to think this won't be the case for CMO.
@@thehistoricalgamer Not to mention all the royalty tax they paid to use the assets, DCS spent a fuckton of money to get all the aircraft license. It's the sim tax, you can't compare it to usual game.

Concept of game most of time is just free action and fun, but this one... And the background music... At least for me, makes my skin shiver... 😍
Many thanks - bought this because of your video - thank you. And I got my 50% off which was great :-).
F-16 Viper? What happened to the F-16 Fighting Falcon?
The Fighting Falcon is an official name, the "Viper" is a nickname pilots give it... at least that's my understanding.
@@thehistoricalgamer Interesting. Are there other nicknames of famous military vehicles received by their crews that the general public isn't aware of?
No ground battle?
Viper is the nickname for the F-16 Block 70,also called V.... Falcon is the traditional nickname for the F-16 in general,
Their all nicknamed viper, that’s not new or exclusive to the blk 70, they’ve been called that for a very long time
Could you combine Command Modern Operations, Tacview and DCS World all together? Or for that matter could you run CMO, Tacview and MSFlightSim with its global realism all at the same time?
Can you do anything in the editor?
Say old say, 1970 items vs 2020?
Or a continuing set of missions where what you lose will carry over? Maybe if you do so bad you have to start unmothballing older era jets / boats.
J-20 at the thumbnail, is it?
The 3d view is certainly cool, but... that gods eye issue is certainly a problem.
Yea, I wonder how that gets resolved. If at all. Tacview is a separate company and product.
I'm having a glitch where convergence zones aren't showing up, is there any way to fix this?
I just bought Command with TacView for $25 on Steam. Long live Steam poverty regions.
i wonder if playing this game will help me pass selection to get into the air force when i reveal how much military tactics i know
I hope you do more videos on this!
Could you make a series of walkthrough of the tutorials already existing on the game? Althow they are tutorials, some of them, seem to be a little complicated
Thanks :)

Little does he know the kitchen is a high altitude antiship cruise missile
BLK doesn't stand for bulk, it stands for block. Love the video though 👌
Anyone know if you can deploy SEALs, have them blow something up and then retrieve with a Sub?
Somehow, I read in some reviews, you can. Tho I have not seen that oportunity
Nope. Su-57 is Berkut. It's the one with the crazy backwards wings.
And Stalingrad was renamed Volgograd some time ago.
Whats interesting about the AIM-9X, is apparently, it can target and engage aircraft behind you.
No not behind you, but it is capable of 90 degree off-boresight engagement when coupled with the JHMCS. Its an amazing piece of kit
The Iris T can do that too and be actually used as an ADS
@Benjamin McCann
Brits tend to refer to military equipment as kits :) Including weapons.
What is a good beginner friendly game similar to this to start with?
Fighting falcon is offical nickname along side viper is used as too
But now f-16 block 70 latest f-16 model will be called viper probably they are block 70 f-16's
The redundant return of the game "Harpoon", (an interesting game that I have enjoyed playing for about 20 years.) NEW NEW NEW! Now with photos and textures!
I remember Harpoon, this is much better
This is very different than Harpoon. Same concept but the execution and the refinements are very different. Certainly looks and feels like a very different game than Harpoon.
The F-16's "Viper" nickname is indeed a reference to the original Battlestar Galactica.
Japan's variant of the F-16 (The F-2) is nicknamed the Viper
not to be that guy but im gonna be that guy. The AIM120 is A BVR missle (beyond visual range) dogfights are onlt declared 10nm or closer and fought with AIM7, AIM9 or Guns.
Aha!!! Love the Independence Day reference!
Hello,
Where was it? I love Independence Day too!
Don’t nuke Chicago! I live in Will County! Wait til I head south and then do it! LOL!!!
This looks like a modern version of Harpoon. Is that correct?
I loved Harpoon.
anyone know if you buy the tacview bundle for this game does the tacview also work on DCS, or does it only work on this game
Jackson it’ll work with DCS, BMS and any other game that supports it.
They killed two Su-34s and Russia responds with nukes...Smirnov, I'd start running.
Or just bend over and kiss your ass goodbye.... that radiation has got him cold!
@@thehistoricalgamer And, somehow, he survived. Well, he is a Russian, after all...
How did you get the radio chatter from the pilots?
It’s part of the game, I didn’t touch anything.
@@thehistoricalgamer I played the same scenario and have tac viewer and tired it with and without the tV and no sound. I have music off and sound on lol TY
Does it have sound without the tax viewer?
I got it. Needed to engage. TY for your wonderful videos you produce.
what's the price to buy it?
What about playing canary's cage scenario, it is a really good one isn't it?
I'd have to check that out. As much as I like CMANO, I suck at it.
5 1/2 minutes of menu, gripping stuff.
@Zsavage1 calling a game crap because its not for you is, well, quite ignorant at the least.
Zsavage1 this game is obviously not your type of game. If you do enjoy RTS it’s obviously not this niche Subgenre of it, considering most games under this subgenre are in fact very similar. Therefor you would be ignorant under an assessment of this particular game, also considering you didn’t give any insight to your opinion of it being “crap” and it apparently being a fact only highlights your ignorance.
Whereas for me being arrogant while that may be true, it certainly is not because of me calling you ignorant on the subject.
As for beta testing that fact does not give you expertise in the matter considering you did not give insight as of what you beta tested. As for the menu being terrible, it is in some regards but I’t does better than many main menus, as for navigation, this is quite a good example of navigation considering the complexity of the game and the tools it provides this games UI does a good job of giving clear information as of where the tools are located.
Zsavage1 and to be clear it is not your opinion that makes you ignorant, As everyone can have their own opinion. it is that you present your opinion as a fact that indeed makes you ignorant.
i download it... 5 minutes passed i get annoyed for the music and the missing options button to mute it... and i delete it..
I'm thinking of buying but is this like those military turn-base games where most of the time the A.I always wins?? How realistic is this??
It’s realistic enough for the pentagon, the German Air Force, and many other govts elect to pay them to use a professional version of the game. It’s super realistic, but also super complex... I generally lose but that’s not because there’s an AI bias but rather because I’m bad.
@@thehistoricalgamer
Thanks for your reply. Just curious though how much more advanced and realistic is the professional version that you mention compared to the watered-down version we ordinary folks have. It's only good enough for the Pentagon e.t.c because it's professional. I need convincing that the A.I aren't really dictating the outcome already otherwise it's all a waste of time putting the effort in.
Just an FYI. There is an F-16V Viper. the original F-16 was the Falcon. Great video though.
You balooganed them!
It´s quite enjoyable, but if you´ll do another video, please consider dropping the Tacview in favor of a proper planning phase, the 3D view is more annoying than helpful, at least for me.
Hello new to this, just downloaded it , all so tac view free version my Question is how do l set up tac view to work with it, or could you do a short video how
to enjoy your video ...
Hi Paul. Under Game -> Game Options -> Tacview tab you simply need to add in the path to the tacview.exe wherever you installed it. You need version 1.8.0 of Tacview installed.
Are ground forces modeled?
Yes, though it's not primarily a ground combat game. If you want tactical armored warfare you're better with a game like Armored Brigade.
Such an 'advanced' milsim type game....doesn't even have an options box on the menu to lower the god damned volume! XD
But is it Harpoon? :)
most missiles systems have there own radar,
there are a lot of missile systems that do not have individual radars. The most common SAM Systems have individual packages that cooperate, as in radar and launchers are separated. These are usually heavier missile systems and have a magnitude of longer range than your typical AAA battery
Saw this on steam looked at the price and was like whhhhhhatttt? this game isn't worth the price tag it's fucking crazy 80 bucks and then another 30 for that tac view thing not to mention all the DLC ranging from 3-20 bucks if you want the full experience, what a joke. ( edit ) tacview advance is something like 60 bucks I believe.
Wait until you see Paradox's DLC's.
Solomon Lusk, Yeah the space sims? That's another ridiculous beast.
@@KingZealotTactics totally worth it. I've spent thousands of hours playing this game. Dollars spent for hours played, this game is one of my all time best purchases.
You can join us over in Star Citizen, where some people have spent 50,000 euros on a game that hasn't been released yet.
not bad but 80 bucks???? if it had some sort of 3d mode that would have been nice but kinda bloody pricey
tac view is a sort of 3d mode but it's another 30 bucks, and if you want the full experience with the DLC it's crazy ranging from 3-20 bucks and there is over maybe 15 DLC. no excuse for this price and it will make many people look past this game just as I have.
@@KingZealotTactics However the amount of systems it has documented means there is an insane amount of scenarios and replayability
It's essentially a simulator that can be played as a game, especially since there are versions of it specifically meant to be used by militaries
Um... "Blk" is "Block", not "Bulk".
Yea I misspoke. This is from a livestream so it's a bit off the cut, slip ups like that get through because of that.
Any land combat
It's not a land combat simulation. Land combat exists, land units exist, and there's been a bunch of enhancements, but the dev even says if you want a armored warfare simulator, a game like Armored Brigade is probably a better bet.
Looks like a game that would have come out in the early 90s
The heart and soul of this game is under the hood and the database. Not every game needs 4k 3D graphics with 60 FPS, imho the complexity and gameplay of CMO is vastly superior to many games that look "pretty".
Command for what? Dude, if someone didn't tell you, AI doesn't need commands.
06:41 Rusian Airforce and Trained? Good Joke
I believe Nagorno-Karabakh is pronounced Nag-or-no Kara-bach. Also it's not Slavic.
It's pronounced as Nagorniy Karabakh.
I can tell that you are chroma subsampling, which makes the text difficult to read.
yeah there is a f-16V Viper....do you even air fan....bruh
are you sure you are not more of a tom&jerry type games dude ?
Well considering I play a lotta war in the pacific, I’d hazard a guess… no.
@@thehistoricalgamer thank you, nice to hear, is just that you seem a bit impatient for action for games of this strategic nature
Whoever nukes Caucasus will burn in hell. Georgia, Armenia and Azebaijan are the most beautiful region of Earth, period. :)
adooobeeeee?
Just seems like a cash grab, release a game, not for cheap, then charge extra for different features like the tac view
No that's true true, tac view is not their product, DCS and IL-2 both have Tacview support also.
Not really
Why in gods name is the game nearly $100
$80 on steam... wtf
Not my cup of tea i guess
If you are gonna demo a game.... you should know how to play it WELL first.
The purpose of a “first look” is not to come into a game as an expert. It’s to show you (a new player) what you will likely experience if you buy a game. If I was already an expert, it would not be by definition a “first look.”
@@thehistoricalgamer I guess when I think of a first look video I think of a general overall view of a item without getting into the nitty, gritty details. I kind of expect the reviewer to give me a good idea of why I would purchase something. But no biggie man. I am sorry if I came off a little harsh.
theres no excuse for the price of this "game"!
So it is all about menus? Sorry I pass.
I mean it's certainly not all about menus, but yes it's not an "action" game.
gameplay starts 5.22
How is this fun?
Because slow paced tactical games are fun.
I question any game that showcases ChineseJ20 junk, but who knows.
CMANO doesn't support modding at all. If I wanted buff or nerf certain weapons I couldn't do it. I could only put different weapons on other vanilla platforms, which is very limited. Also civilian CMANO version doesn't have the top tier current year weapons such as the Chinese DF-17, while the unobtainable professional version does. Which added together makes CMANO very fucking gay.
lol
If a guy with that name is telling me something is very fucking gay, then it must be really that flamingly boy-molesting levels of gay.
