The safety tip is useful when you're starting out but I think it's a bit limiting too. I've seen people use the hot metal tip of the 3D Pen in order to sort of... reheat the filament once they've started sculpting. That way that can smooth out their work and make it look less messy.
I think there's a hot knife tool you could purchase for help smoothing out the finished piece as well. Or maybe that's for a similar, but still different product? Not sure, I've only seen it in shorts.

I haven’t done anything with dolls in such a long time, but I still come back and watch this channel. It’s crazy to see how far Toya has come! I’ve made a few of her older crafts, and I remember wanting to buy pop tarts so desperately just to use the boxes to make the washer dryer craft she had back then. And back when she had an Etsy store I was pretty lucky to have snagged a doll bedding set! Congrats on how far this channel has gone Toya! Watching crafts and doing them helped me through some difficult times back then, so thank you! 💕

Watching you experiment with the pen gives me ideas on how I would build upon your work. I think I would make a base of craft foam or foam board for the cake then doodle the icing on the base. Love the headboard. Knowing it would be a bit floppy, I'd use skinny sticks on the side pieces and a long the base to give it some support. I think you judge yourself to hard on the birdcage.
So I don't have a 3D pen, but something that helped me for drawing in general is- if you have to be really neat and precise with a line, move the paper/mat and keep the pen stationary. You might be able to move the surface more easily and steadily than the pen.

What a creative form of work!!!! It really helps in creativity and improving your drawing skills!!!!! If you ask me which craft was my favourite? My favourite was definitely the the iron-ish inspired headboard, The parrot-like bird, the bird in a bird cage and the crates!!!!!! Really insipires creativity!!!
I never used this tool but it looks like it def takes practice and patience. Loved how you made milk crates, the icing details and birds and that gorGEous headboard
You could cut some paperboard to fit behind the headboard. Cover it with a remnant of silk or velvet fabric. Do drapes in the same fabric and it would be a pretty classy bedroom. The pen looks like a fun tool.
This was fun to watch. I think you did a good job on everything. The birds are darling and I really love the headboard. The filament certainly does lend itself to that wrought iron look. And the cake came out sooo cute. The textures of both the cake and icing look really good and natural. I'm glad to see that there is a little working time with the filament for texturing. That makes all the difference in the world. I can't wait to get a 3D pen! I have so many ways that I want to use it for the Rainbow High, Shadow High, and Mermaze Mermaidz dolls that I've just started collecting.

You can also cover your paper patterns with tape to give them that slick surface. As long as you dont leave the hot tip of the pen on the tape too long so it melts the tape.
I haven’t used my 3D pen in ages! Time to find it again… The birds are really cute! I would try to make a parakeet/budgie. (I had one before I moved to my apartment, and I actually want one again. But at least my mini-me could have one) Just wondering, could you use baking paper on top of the paper, if it’s sheer enough?

Quick tip: if you want to smooth the sides flat, try ironing with wax paper between the items and the iron! I saw a 3D pen artist do that!!!
All of your little pieces are so cool. You can probably use parchment paper as a nonstick mat. It is see through and heat resistant.
