and the bankers and morgage companies and real estate firms are as much to blame as well, they make a fortune off selling beachfront property and then when the home falls into the ocean, its " oh well not my problem". its a big tijme racket including the insurance companies
You're absolutely correct and I also believe that it's a zoning Scandal as well it should have never been zoned to be built on. And when permits were applied for they should have never been approved. And if they did allow it to be built code enforcement should have absolutely required it built to a higher standard more stringent reinforced with a more structurally sound specifically designed for heavy impact Seawall. the seawalls that are currently on most of these buildings and home sites are simply Way Too Thin With No backup support. And what's even more shocking is the way that they were allowed to be built on nothing more than beach sand. At the very least they should have been required to be built upon heavy extremely deep large thick reinforced concrete foundations that would be 20 ft at least in height and thickness. I don't see how they could possibly allow anything to be built there ever again it should be all protected natural Preserve land. With plenty of Florida Coastal vegetation such as palm trees seagrass sea grapes cedar trees and even Australian pines to hold the soil in place. Along with endless tons of sand dredged way out from the ocean to raise the land and to create natural sea Dunes. Properly irrigated with irrigation sprinkler to help the vegetation take hold. And constantly replenished. Bringing it back to its natural state.
My wife and I were at Pirates Cove during Ian. Being pounded relentlessly by those outer bands made it feel like a direct hit from the hurricane. That was an experience I don't ever want to go through again.
I was thinking the same thing. They need to get an adult in there to do the news, not this snickering child. I'm sure the people facing this damage do not appreciate her. I don't!
Should have never allowed those buildings in homes to be built there to begin with. Areas like that along the shore should be natural reserve protected land.
One day you're living in your fancy million dollar ocean front house , the next day you're house is wrecked and WORTHLESS, and you're ordered to GET OUT! Then you've got to go live in your CAR! Sheesh.
Oceanfront property on sale at low low prices!
Somebody will probably buy. There's a SUCKER born every minute.

Wilbur is now in the sea!!
Ocean water is not very friendly. Just imagine how the structure Internally is corroded it’s a matter of time for the collapse.

Well I hope they packed up important papers, jewelry, guns, animals that they can carry in a vehicle, cause there ain't nothing to come back too.....
Going from living in their million dollar house to living in their car.
Probably not a good idea to build concrete structures on sand dunes.
And the sheriff is flawless when he’s not calling people knuckle heads or scumbags 😮
😄😄😄😄
You must’ve had a run in with him huh?? Lol Which one are you?
Not wise to build so close to the ocean
Absolutely, should of left the peninsula as a beach for people to enjoy not live on!
I don’t get reports that have a little chuckle when talking about a serious situation.
I was thinking the same thing. They need to get an adult in there to do the news, not this snickering child. I'm sure the people facing this damage do not appreciate her. I don't!
Well at least Volusia county cops are good for something. Crime control is obviously not their forte!
I think this sheriff is sort of getting his jollies telling people to get out! "Get out? But where do I go?" Sheriff: "Not my problem, just get out."
I can't understand why people want to live next to the ocean
in fla after they see what water wind & surge can do to places.
Build your house on beach sand with a giant ocean at your doorstep. They will always be in jeopardy.
My wife and I stayed there on our honeymoon last June
