A friend of mine was told by a judge Friday he wasn't eligible for a public defender due to his income, that doesn't sound right to me. Is that not a constitutional right?
I don't know what this guy is talking about. Gideon was fully realized. Today, every American has the full right to an incompetent lawyer in any criminal case against them.
uh now you have to prove you are too poor with 3 months checkstubs. i will be forced to represent myself in a trial i never asked for after pleaing guilty for a differed judgement that the judge didnt want to accept afterwards. She said she thought i would fail the classes. the public defenders office told me this only applies to you if you are in custody. the right to an attorney is a MYTH

pro bono 1 one option or pay membership for a prepaid legal service that's what i have
The Patriot Act (I assume that's what you mean since you are being vague and indirect) did not nullify the Gideon v. Wainwright precedence. It was an act passed by Congress, having nothing to do with the Supreme Court of the United States. The only case involving it was overturned in the defendants favor. Please tell me where it was nullified, since I'm such a nooblet apparently.
Clarence Earl Gideon was guilty of breaking into the Bay Harbour Pool Hall, paid for his cab and room at the old Gingerbread Boarding House all in change he stole out of my Uncles business. Yes it was before my time but I know the facts of the actual crime committed
The only reason I'm watching this is because its for my social studies class. But very helpful thanks!
im watching for my nsl gov class lol
thanks guys this helped for my highschool gov class, going to us it for a presentation tomorrow.
Is not that the people take it for granted. It is a fact that officials pretend they no longer know it.
That's Everyone's right under the Sixth Amendment.

You have a right to the appointment of an attorney if you cannot afford one.
Whatever happened to your friend
he had too little or to much money?
Interesting subject in 2015, had to review for a class assignment in Seattle. We should all be attentive of our rights prior to committing a crime.
Or ya know, don't commit a crime lol...
What is happening in the background in the beginning of the video?
Great video, thanx.

Some of us should actually visit the US Supreme Court.
I can't find anything from Google. Was it a separate case or something?

Why was he found not guilty on his second trial?
It is better for a hundred guilty men to go free than for one innocent man to be locked up.
Wait he stole from your uncle!?
I read it was the other guy the kid who accused him and his friends who stole the stuff
I guess we have the answer: They didn't mention this "news" (love your use of quotes there) because it is wrong.
Gideon was a bum. Not a hero.
he still had the right to an attorney
Where does the constitution say "only heroes have rights, not bums"?
