Yeah if you regularly sit with your head above the ceiling fan. It's a good way to find what blade needs more weight but I would tape something on top after.
It's literally the way you balance a fan. The fan comes with weights. They are plastic springs, basically the same as this paper clip. But they end up in the trash. If you check online, you might be able to find ones that match the fan.
Well that's just awesome. He fixes out of balance ceiling fans and lands planes on the Hudson and saves everyone on board. Talk about a jack of all trades. 👍
@@oooooouu1 When I was a kid, my friend had a fan sort of like this one; 36" 4-blade "spinner" style fan. He once took two sets of fingernail clippers, opened up the nail file part, which is basically like a little knife...just not sharpened, obviously, then he attached them to two of the blades, opposite one another, using rubber bands. He got a bunch of balloons that were left over from either his birthday party or his sister's, turned the fan on high, and proceeded to launch balloons into the fan, popping them! It was pretty cool, and didn't damage anything other than the balloons, of course! 😂
@@pizzamon795 Yeah right!? He's got a 25% chance of getting it right. Oh wait! I'll bet he had it marked and went through three different takes of that video in order to get the right blade. I got it now

If you don’t want that flying around your fan, what you could do is put your hand slowly up to the fan, and feel when your hand hits the blades. If your hand hits only 1 or 2 of the blades, then your blades aren’t lined up. You can also tell just by looking at the edge of the blades while the fan is spinning.
Yes if it was a blade alignment problem you are correct and thanks for commenting. In this case it just needed a little weight balancing, a common problem too.
My ceiling fan does the same thing I've tightened all the screws and it still doesn't help I also tried this with the paper clip and it didn't help either guess I'll just leave the fan off
Sometimes it isn’t just tightening the screws sometimes the brackets really are bent, I can tell because one of the blades is twisted and miss angled in the video
And 10 minutes later, off to the hospital to get stitches in the side of his head, because you know that's coming off as soon as your in the right position.
It’s a weight to counter balance the fixture. The fans typically come with Small one that sticks onto the top side of one of the blades. Electrician here
Do it the right way and balance the blades. Match weight and straight, tighten hardware. Then add weight if needed. BTW one reason it's off Ballance is the way you stopped it with your hand, your forcing the blades to move out of position. I've been through all of this many times, had ceiling fans in every house I've lived in. They're great when there balanced correctly. Oh and make sure the blades all have the same bend to them. (Pitch angle)
Find out which blade it is with the clip, drill a small hole in the end and run a machine screw with a lock nut into the blade for a more permanent fix that probably won't kill you. Add a washer or two for more weight if needed.
Measure between the fan blades and look for the widest number then pull the fan blade back over torquing slightly allowing for spring back. When you turn the fan on low does it still wabble? You can also adjust pitch the same way. Just measure each side of the blade off of the motor, not the ceiling because you can lean most fans slightly ,throwing numbers off.
Until you are sitting there minding your own business and a chip clip hits your eye going 60mph.

When it nearly comes to a stop,, you can see the opposite blade has something on it
That actually fixed mine lol, thank you so much!

I used to tape nickles on to balance the blades. Works until it doesn't 🤣🤣.

Hahaha.. He's proud as hell of that... good job buddy.
Works great provided you put it on the blade that's causing the out of balance issue
Only 4 possibilities.
Tape a quarter to the top side also works
Top side of which blade?
The distance from the center makes a difference too.
I would have used some Alabama chrome...(duck tape) it fixes everything...🦆

this is what I did on my ceiling fan and it's a 5 blade fan so it has a small challenge and that challenge was
figuring out which blade to put it on

How do you know what blade to put the clip on?
Plus the fans come with counter weights when you purchase them.
Now that's an OG fix.
Tacky! I thought you were a man who was actually going to fix it!
Nice, they give you a package with a white clip and weights in the box the fan comes in to do this exact fix with
Yep, usually gets lost before anyone puts it on unless they get it put on first thing like their supposed to
That is true , but who can find them. This is much faster

I use some thick tape placed on the back side of the blade so I don't see it.
