It’s movie like this that’s important to teach a valuable lesson that our African chiefs were wrong, slavemasters were wrong, the institution of slavery was wrong, and the Europeans powers that allow slavery to exist were wrong! Let’s be clear on these facts that 99% of Africans today had nothing to do with the slave trade and let’s be clear that the vast majority of white people had nothing to do with slavery. The problem that exist as of 2021 is the fact that ethnocentrism, racism, tribalism, prejudices, discrimination and hate that’s part of human nature, must be minimized by one towards other people, for there are people out there who have fallen victims to these human ills...making it difficult for them to put ENOUGH bread and butter on the table for them and their family members. The great news here is that we all have the power as individuals to change the world around us, to treat the next person with empathy --to treat others the way you will want to be treated, regardless of your social-economic status . In a nutshell, be kind and treat others with decency, while giving other people an opportunity to climb the economic ladder of life, in today’s society. I’m conflicted on wether the plantation owner was bad or good. On the one had he was in the slave business but on the other hand he at least treated them with respect
Respect is worthless if the workers you're giving it to aren't free to leave if they choose. He may be better than other slave-drivers, but no good man ever owned slaves.
The father was a decent man. His son wasn't. Where the father was wrong, was he should have controlled his brat better. He didn't really try to stop him in this scene or when he killed Nancy Holt.
That’s the best part of the movie… “Frederick” getting shot. Thank you Chicken George now you don’t have to hear his big ignorance racist mouth anymore👍🏾
No, he wasn't. Chicken George is a good-natured person until you threaten the people he cares about. Like in the original when he told Evan Brent he'd kill him if he ever bothered him or his family. He gets a lethal look on his face when he says it.

I love the bravery of Chicken George but this scene was just plain unrealistic...he was a Black/Biracial man in the 1800s South shooting a White man dead right in front of his parents? What I appreciated about the 1977 classic was the meticulous attention to detail and authenticity they poured into it. This scene comes across as a bit of fantasy and flat-out revisionist. Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the real George would've been stupid enough to endanger his entire family by doing something like this in real life.
Victoria Grace during the very early days of reconstruction (when federal troops still occupied the south) he could’ve gotten away with it (as he morally should’ve been able to), but had this been in 1876-1960s he would’ve had to get out of dodge
Its possible either way. It comes down to who is involved. In this particular situation its up to the dad of this man if he wants to make it something. If the father lets it go its done. If he pursues it its very possible george and tom could have been mob lynched. Regardless of any law or federal whoever lynchings and murders still happened
