    Super helpful video! Was losing oil in my 2006 Honda Odyssey and was worried it was gonna be a big garage bill. Watched this video and was able to do it myself. I’m pretty certain this is where the leak was because it had a buildup of sludge on this part. I used Fel-Pro oil filter adapter gasket # 73040. Changed the oil and filter at the same time. Let it run for awhile and i didn’t spot any leaks. I will keep an eye on it, but I believe this was the problem!

      A good stop leak for cooling systems that I swear by is K-Seal. I used that in my friends Chevy Sonic. Those car's are cooling system nightmares. It stopped the leak in the radiator.

    This oil leak evidently has been going on for a while. The van squeals horribly, and the mechanic charged us for other repairs... eventually, it leaked bad enough for me to look into it, and... this video made it easy for me to fix it... now to do the repair and clean the area and belt to see if that fixes the whole problem.... it is a 2007 after all.

    Make sure you check which honda or acura car and look for the 10mm bolt on the right of the housing. For example, the acura RLX has that bolt in the back of the harmonic balancer. You need to remove the accessory belt, the harmonic balancer, then you get to the 10mm bolt. The acura tl and the honda accord do not have that issue. It’s straight forward like in the video.

  • @justinyelverton
    @justinyelverton Рік тому +2

    Some Honda bond or gasket maker around that side without the bolt probably wouldn’t hurt. Don’t feel like doing mine twice, so I’ll more than likely take my own advice. Lol. Appreciate this video, I’ve been wondering why my leak is so bad down low.

    Some of these gaskets have filters and some do not. I see one of each coming up when I search for an 07 odyssey. I guess I’ll order both to be safe and return whichever is the wrong one.
    Update: just did this repair and no filter on original gasket. Job was pretty easy and saved me a lot of money doing myself.

    • @batvette
      @batvette Рік тому

      I had the same dilemma saw both parts didnt know which one to get. I got the one with filter, when i got the old one off it didnt have the filter. The filter can be easily pried out and used anyway without it. This is one of the easiest repairs I have done on this POS you just have to identify this as the leak source. Yes its a POS for a jap car bought with 111k now has 157k i cant count how much shit Ive had to fix and or needs fixin just the planned stuff like timing belt and valve adjustments are absurd compared to Toyota Sienna. (07 exl)
      Sucker that i am i bought another last year (16 elite)but much less has broken. We will see how happy I am at about 110k when I gotta do the timing belt. It does drive fantastic for a minivan

    • @ashleyredden2201

      It depends on submodel like exl. And touring don't have gasket I believe and certain years don't either..

    • @batvette
      @batvette Рік тому

      @@ashleyredden2201 for some engine parts yeah but Im pretty sure all odys of a certain year have oil filter mounting plate gaskets. What would differ is VCM vs non VCM and thats where trim levels come in. For instance 07 lower trims lx and ex have the J35A6 while upper trims exl and touring have J35A7, with VCM and those have spool valves on each head with gaskets prone to leakage.

    This happens on most Honda V6 3.5 in the Accord, Pilot, Ridgeline, TL, MDX etc. The spool valve gasket on the other side of the V leaks too. It won't Just make a mess though, it will leak down onto the alternator and ruin it.

      Well you have one less thing to worry about going forward now. I guess it’s a process of elimination and the good thing is that these repairs seem doable which can save us some nice money. I’ll be doing this on the weekend and also changing a seal on another component known to leak. I think it’s the vtec spool gasket. After these two are changed I’m hoping my leak is fixed. If not then it’s on to the next possible culprit I guess. Very thankful for videos like these and the people who take the time to do them. I’m a handy guy with respect to tools and woodworking. But I never did automotive. Thanks to UA-cam I’ve done a number of repairs that were beyond my basic understanding but got them done. One of the biggest was taking apart the top of my jeep engine to replace an oil filter housing (damn oil leaks lol). Took a whole day but I saved a lot of money.

      @@tdz69 It is my oil pan gasket, but the leak is small , so it’s not a big deal and it’s not worth all the time and effort ,imo.
      I have 266,000 on my 2001 Odyssey, and I am hoping to get another 100k out of it, if possible. I’ve put plenty of parts onto this van and, everything operates on it. The one thing I haven’t changed yet, is the water pump and belt , which are recommended @ 100k.
      Iam the 3rd owner, so idk if the belt and pump have been done yet. I recently took my vin to the Honda dealership to see if I could obtain any Maintenance records on my van but they had nothing. The previous owner said she had all her work done at the Honda dealership, but I had no luck. I just wish I knew if the belt and water pump were changed so I don’t have to waste time doing it myself . From what i see, it’s a big job.
