      You just need to map punch function in your DAW to the punch key in your Arturia. I would suggest to focus on your DAW functionality first, as this is really where you need to figure out how to map it correctly with Arturia.

    Very useful video. I probably should've asked this question before I ordered the Keylab Essential (which I did, just now) but how do you find the keybed or the key action? I'm not particularly picky when it comes to this, I'm not really a pianist, but ideally, I'd want it to be usable and reasonably expressive (as in, suitable for live performance, which I think you've mentioned is your use-case). I hope that is the case :) Thanks again for this and the previous video!

    • @amagistudio
      @amagistudio  4 роки тому +1

      Keylab Essential has velocity sensitive keys instead of weighted keys. I am pianist and owner of Yamaha CLP 665 grand piano, so I already have one amazing instrument @ full spec at home. Hence I don't mind lack of weighted keys. But for someone who requires 'piano feel like' keys, this could be on negative side. However as you mentioned you are not a pianist, you should be very happy with Keylab keys as long as you will set up latency between your DAW and MIDI controller correctly! I cannot stress enough how this is crucial! I'm not live performer at all, this video was only to show you guys what you can do with it while playing live. For composing & music production (this is my case) this MIDI controller it's very good. As for the key action, as we know Keylab Essential keys do not have aftertouch, but if you look closely me playing in the previous Arturia Demo video, you will notice I managed to come with a sattle vibrato by vibrating keys end notes on the go - in theory impossible... in practice very noticeable😁 so as you can see, you will definitely be able to express yourself 👍

    This video is great and you have explained everything so well! So thank you.
    I'm kind of at an impass for a problem I'm experiencing. After selecting 'user 1' on map select, as seen @ 5:35, when I touch the keys Ableton isn't recognizing the midi signal coming from the Artiria controller. (On the top right, you can't see the little blinking)
    To be clear. The controller recognizes the mapping from the MCC. But Abelton isn't recognizing the controller's midi signal from the keys. I made sure under Abeltons's preferences the midi in's and out's were turned 'on' for the Arturia controller.
    Do you have any troubleshooting advice?

    • @amagistudio
      @amagistudio  Рік тому +2

      Hmm check this first ua-cam.com/video/n_z4shcILu4/v-deo.html and then make sure you did set MCC user 1 correctly. I would leave it on all channels in Ableton (just in case you messed up routing). And make sure your track I/O is also set right. BTW new video is coming soon! Stay tuned! ;)

    • @amagistudio

      In this video I showed how to map buttons in Essential, in practise using pads (you can map all 8 pads) with certain commands in Ableton such us clip play for example (so this already answered 1st part of your question) ; same principle apply for other commands like record etc. But you have record button in Essential for that reason, so why to map pads to enable record? The idea is to have different MIDI CC for different compressors using the same keyboard for all of them. For instance, if I have two compressors in my track, like UA LA2A and UA 1176, but when I want to change the parameters on LA2A I would load a map made just for it, and recall a different one for the 1176... • @PutItAway101
      @PutItAway101 10 місяців тому +1

      What you're looking for is a USB switcher, not a hub. USB doesn't allow more than one "host" (i.e a PC etc) to be on the same USB bus at a time. You can have multiple USB "devices" (e.g. the Keylab), but only one host. A switcher will let you connect cables to multiple hosts and you can select which host is active and able to see the devices, the other hosts are electrically disconnected from the bus so there's no problem.

      @@amagistudio Take a look in 'device settings' and you'll see that keys and pad velocities can be changed (you can see it in your video). I suggest you try. It really improves the feeling, specially for the pads. Anyhow, I believe that every change made in 'device settings' is valid independent of the existing profiles. I managed to change and store it into the keyboard (no profile needed). The issue is that after reopening the 'Midi control center' the changes made are not shown.

      @Thiago Lombardi ok I got you now, I didnt read you correctly in the first place, so I was lost what are you asking for MCC/DAW/Al. Yes, I have mine set up yrs ago when I got Arturia first time, and never touch them since. 'Set it and forget it' if it works for you ;) However I don't recon to experience any issues with losing setting once MCC is closed + I saved them all in new template - works for me. On top of that I decreased latency in my DAW to improve velocity of knobs and it works for me. I won't be in the studio for a while to remind myself how exactly I managed to save it, but tbh all I did is went through user manual (I know sound obvious, but this is how I figured everything out). Anyway thank you for sharing maybe someone experienced the same problem and could help 👍 One more thing-make sure your MCC its updated! I experienced diff issues before updating... maybe this will solve

      @amagistudio  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, I don't remember on top of my head if you can assign Part 1 & 2 buttons, but I remember it definitely states in Keylab user manual which keys can be assigned. Just check their manual, but basically if you would just midi map in Live anything ( in live midi map right top corner of arrangement view, all highlighted in purple can be assigned) and then push button Part 1 or Part 2 in Keylab, you will then quick realise if these two can be assigned or not. 👍

I can say now that yes, it's possible to configure them to send: notes, CCs, Program changes and the MMC (I have no idea what it is intended for).

      @@BrianZolo tbf Im now not sure what is your question... If these are assignable then your asign them in exactly the same way as any others (like I showed in the video). Do you know how to midi mapp (asdign keys to your controller) in Ableton Live....? If so the principle remains the same. Its not the matter of Keylab to explain how to assign buttons, but its the matter to understand how to do it in your DAA. If you do know how to midi mapp in Live, just click highlighted in purple whatever you want to assign, then go to Keylab click on the Part 1 button job done! Part 1 will now be assigned to whatever you have chosen in Live. There is no other way to assign keys. You don't really need MCC to do it. Firstly just set up your Midi Controller correctly in Live ( here is quick video how to do it ua-cam.com/video/n_z4shcILu4/v-deo.html) then use Live for midi mapping (top right corner of Live view)

There is nothing more I could say, than what has already been mentioned in the video to help. If you follow the steps it should work, unless you didn't set up your DAW correctly in the first place with the external instrument (MIDI controller in this case). No, I didn't mean that settings in AL will affect how Logic is working in general but how its is working with AL itself. All I am saying is, that if you are also using AL, then there are additional settings to tweak it, so it works even better. The whole fun about KeyLab is to use it with AL. Anyway different DAWs can assign different functions to KeyLab and some of them might be limited, however I'm pretty sure Logic should work fine. Its all about latency settings in your DAW, updated drivers etc. oHJust do proper research- online world is full of info. Ask ppl who are Logic users what settings they tweaked in DAW, for KeyLab keys to work smooth.

    • @OhShootKid

      It does, but not as well as in Ableton. For example, the Analog Lab mode only automatically assigns the faders to Analog Lab software when I go into the settings in the channel rack for that channel and select the input to be the same as the input for the keyboard in FL Studio. Related to this, you need to go into FL's midi settings and select your keylab DAW/MIDI input and output, which is quickly explained in Arturia's tips and tricks manual online for Keylab. Not hard at all, but more annoying than in Ableton, where all the features automatically work the second you open Ableton. The most annoying thing for me in FL is that if I've set a channel (Analog Lab for example) to respond to midi input 1 in order for all the faders to work the way they should, that channel will then output volume no matter which channel I've selected afterward, until I go back and reset the midi channel for Analog Lab. So basically, there's a small setup each time you want the faders to work for a given channel of Analog Lab as well as a "de-setup" when you change channels. Luckily, I've found that for custom mappings that you can make for third party software. Then again, I rarely use the faders and knobs because, as they aren't motorized, they can easily mess up an existing level of a parameter if I've been using them in another instance (for example, if I'm mixing and my volume level was tweaked on one fader and then I switched to another set of mixer inserts and used the same fader to adjust another level). There is a setting shown in this video that allows you to have the faders not change any level until the fader reaches the level set in the parameter, but I don't think this is available for the knobs, which is kinda dumb :/) TLDR: It works fine for most features in FL, but requires some basic setup. FL isn't great with midi controllers in general from what I can tell so I'd say this is gonna do about as much as any other similar midi keyboard in FL :)
