It would be interesting to test the system in poor weather conditions: rain, snow, and, especially, fog.
That is a question, which we also did ask ourselves. And yes, we did already some tests with rain, fog and snow: no problem (camera pictures are quite fault tolerant, as long as humans can see and identify the overhead wires, the camera can do it, too).
And: As the target (the pair of overhead wires) is only a few meters away from the cameras, it would only be a problem, if visibility would be less than, say, 10 m (but then, any traffic would stop, too). In other cases, fog (and also snow) is actually rather advantageous as the background gets somehow hidden.

Is this actually still being developed or being used. There havent been videos in 2 years and I havent heard of this system being used anywhere?

Good invention but? The shoes on the tips of the trolley poles can rotate and spin around after dewiring. If the shoes are not it's not lined up with the wires, this application doesn't work. Too bad this technology can't detect if one or both shoes at the end of the trolley poles have rotated out of alignment with the wires. Great, if it would have the ability to realign the shoes with the overhead wires and reconnect back, onto the overhead wires.

Yes! Connecting the poles to the overhead lines also works e.g. at bus stops even meters beside the traffic lane.

А привод токоприемников пневматический или электрический?
Привод осуществляется на каждый из токоприемников отдельно одним электродвигателем для вращательного движения (=вращение) и ещё одним электродвигателем для подъемного движения (=угол возвышения).
The motion of the current collectors is carried out with (per pole) one electric motor for the rotation and one electric motor for the elevation.
а как такая система будет себя вести на продольно-цепной кс? не перепутает ли камера провода с подвеской?
Можно исключить перепутывание воздушных проводов и подвески: наш алгоритм принимает только пары проводов с правильной позицией и ориентацией (одинаковая и правильная высота, правильное расстояние между проводами, ...). При необходимости мы можем добавить дополнительные критерии: например, мы можем использовать GPS-положение троллейбусa, чтобы исключить места, в которых неправильное распознавание все еще возможно.
A mix-up of overhead wires and suspension can be ruled out: Our algorithm accepts only pairs of wires with the correct position and orientation (same and correct height, correct distance between the wires, ...). If necessary, we can add further criteria: For example, we can use the GPS position of the bus to exclude areas where a mix-up might still be possible.
