I've been wearing them for 10 years now, so I got my first pair in 2011 when I was here for harvest, I'm a fan, I'm a believer, a #Blundstone believer.
So I grew up in Cape Town, South Africa, its where this slight accent comes from, growing up there, my grandparents growing up there wine was on the table, so I have these fond memories of going to wineries and vineyards when i was small.
We are a group of dreamers and schemers, some of the core principles that we built the tank on is that the wines are always one-off wines, we try to get creative and play around with how we make the wines and what blends are made so it's really an amazing creative opportunity for winemaker to express themselves and play around with.
It kind of started as a dream of James Harder, the owner and the creative mind behind everything, he had been living here in Napa since 1999 and had been driving past this old gas station in Calistoga - this gas station always stood out for him and was calling to him in a sense, he finally connected with the owners, he convinced them to put a tasting room up there. In the early days we had people rolling up trying to get oil changes, it looked a little too authentic almost.
I spend a lot of time driving, a lot of time walking vineyards and some of them are pretty rugged and steep and kind of crazy but also strikingly beautiful, that's the beauty of winemaking for me. Yeah, working with my hands and getting dirty out on the field.
