Here is a quick and simple demonstration of how to change the battery in your Mazda CX5 key fob. All you need is a standard flat head screwdriver and your replacement battery. Remove the mechanical key with the latch on the back. Then us your screwdriver to pry the two halves apart. Remove the 2025 cover plate and now you have access to your battery. Replace the battery + side facing upward and put the cover back in place. Snap the two halves back together and replace the mechanical key. You're all set!

I have a 2013 CX 5 and the battery is not removable without breaking two tabs off the side of the battery holder. This was not obvious, but you'll see two little indentions where some wire snips can get to. Snip them off there and the battery can be removed. Thanks for posting this video, its great!
Thank you! My car started (to warm up) but a few min later the key battery must have died. When I tried driving, it was beeping at me. So I stopped at the end of the driveway to reset, and of course the car wouldnt turn back on. And my husband didnt tell me the spare was also dead. At least I could walk back home and now I know what to do. My socially anxious self can be spared a phone call to the dealership. Thanks again!
When the battery is dead, you can place the tip of the key (which has the Mazda logo) over the start button. You will see the indicator light on the dashboard turn green, allowing you to start the car. This gives you more time to replace the battery.

Excellent video. Dealerships will charge, what, $20 to change this? You can buy 4 batteries for $8 so $2 bucks each. Appreciate this and keep up the excellent work.

Battery is a CR2025.
Correct but you can also use a CR2032 in this Mazda key fob. The 2025 & 2032 are pretty much Interchangeable. They are the same diameter but the CR2032 is 0.7mm taller so on other style key fobs that are thinner that 0.7mm difference in height might not fit but on this Mazda fob style it will fit. Plus the CR2032 battery will last significantly longer than the CR2025 👍
