It breaks my heart that these awesome and beautiful creatures have been treated so cruelly for so long. They don't need man to teach them cooperation; they already have this trait and have strong social skills. It's man who need to cooperate instead of destroying everything
Hey, the researchers doing these kinds of problem solving tasks aren't teaching them cooperation. These intelligent animals already have this as they already live in social groups so they do problem solving and cooperation in the wild. I agree with your point that it is us as humans who need to cooperate and learn, though this experiment was to show that elephants do in fact cooperate and problem solve just like we already suspected just now we know for definate. These kinds of experiments are done on chimpanzee's and kea's too in very ethical conditions (because every experiment needs to adhere to the ethical code of conduct :) All love to you :)
My heart just breaks cuz I love them so much!! 💖🐘 I can hardly bear watching nature shows these days cuz of how hard animals, elephants especially, have it, and when I see something like this it reminds me just how much pain and fear they must feel when they are being poached ,and/or dieing of hunger or thirst, thx to climate change!!
Elephants live in family groups, so they have to interact with each. This has been the driving force behind their intelligence. wonder if there is a difference in intelligence between Asiatic and African elephants, as Asiatic Elephants can understand human commands as there are many domesticated/ subjugated elephants in South and South-East Asia. 🤔
Asian elephants are better than African elephants, Firstly they don't usually get angry unlike African Elephants. Secondly they don't crush the entire tree just for eat some leaves. instead they collect leaves from each tree so both trees and elephants can live well. thirdly as working animals and war animals Asian elephants are best they very rarely get scared, almost are fearless. lastly Asian Elephant are very smart to do little jobs from helping people ride on their backs to tack care of human babies. Even tourism project of view African elephants used Asian elephant to carry tourists which can protect tourists from Lions, African elephants etc.
@@withastickangrywhiteman2822 In defense of african elephants, asian elephants have it much easier for the most part. Asian elephants are more common in captivity because african elephant are naturally aggressive. They have to be with all the predators on the Savannah. On the other hand, asian elephant have no predators once they're fully grown. African elephants don't always knock down trees, it's only when they can't reach the top that they will. This is because african trees have evolved to grow taller than a giraffe. I've seen on documentaries where a male african elephant had to stand on it's back legs to reach the lower branches. In that regard, it's a pretty smart move to recognize that they can knock the tree down. On the other hand, asian elephants don't have to try to find food. The trees in the Indian jungle are shorter and there are more shrubs. And for the work and war part, it's not so much that african elephants are fearful, it's that they don't take abuse. Hannibal, the king of carthage, rose african elephants to war and stabbed them in the back of the head to get them to charge. Once they did that, everyone on the ground had a raging elephant to deal with. Asian work elephants are heavily abused physically and emotionally. Seeing how they "tame" a baby is heart wrenching. Nothing like watching a baby cry for its mom as a bunch of people beat it until it stops trying to run. Asian work elephants are usually beaten into a state of what's called learned helplessness. Most elephants would prefer not to carry people or drag logs. If you see that happening, there's a good chance they were abused. On the other hand, most african elephants will fly into a blind rage before learned helplessness sets in.
@@withastickangrywhiteman2822 Asian elephants have to be be broken down with beatings and chains before they are subjugated enough to perform menial tasks and to carry tourists. Maybe that's never been attempted with African elephants, or maybe they are simply too strong-willed for it to work. Either way, the way Asian elephants are treated in Asia is abhorrent, and nothing to boast about.
The purpose of this was to research the animal's cognitive ability. Not just to figure out if they could do it, but to understand why they understood to
It's likely that nobody actually disliked it. Big social media sites like UA-cam only show randomised approximate vote counts , it's called "fuzzing". It's so bot accounts can't check if their votes were really counted.
Amazing creatures. Wish more people would study how smart some animals are so it would change how they are treated in captivity. I love wild animals like elephants, giraffes, lions, rhinos, gorillas, and tigers. I have black and white photos of all kinds of wild animals decorating the walls in my home. I need to get some dolphin and chimp photos
i always find it fascinated that we are amazed that an animal that... mourns its dead, leads its clan trough hundreds of miles of desert, can perform difficult work tasks, is said to safe other animals in danger........ is capable of cooperation!! wow, what a finding! who would have thought that! ....... Science turns captain obvious here..^^
What makes it even worse is that elephants can experience grief and loss. They may as well be hunting down your family and friends because they feel the same things.
Barbara Blättler Stop blaming the chinese...Ppl from my country and other southeastern countries who still hold on to ancient beliefs still buy those things, but such practice is getting rarer now
Siodenesse L. Tell me then, why are only Chinese nationals caught with rhino horns and elephant tusks in their luggage here in Namibia and South Africa? Yes, the poachers are locals, but they are being paid by the Chinese who smuggle the items out of the country. Just last year a Chinese national, coming from Namibia war arrested at OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg with 18 rhino horns in his luggage. Explain to me, why is it that Chinese nationals send parcels to China labeling the contents as coffee and then pieces of elephant tusks are hidden in the parcels? Currently there are at least 5 if not more Chinese nationals standing accused of being in possession of elephant tusks or rhino horns here in Namibia. Don’t you agree that this makes us locals sour towards the Chinese nationals? Rhino and elephant are protected species worldwide, and you say we must not blame the Chinese. I think you are a bit naive.
Barbara Blättler In that case I understand your hate. Also maybe you should blame the locals too, a syndicate doesn't involve only one party. I'm not saying that the chinese are not to be blamed in this case but should the locals did not give in to the chinese' offer in the first place, they could never force anything on anyone.
It would’ve been interesting to see what would’ve happened if another elephant was used for round 3 to see if the elephant who has experienced the first two rounds would teach the other one
