Magnesium slamming more magnesium....The old VWs had a Lot of it in their transmission and motor castings..Its pretty stuff when on fire or tossing sparks on a grinder, but its kinda hard to put out if it ever starts burning.

My dad's buddy would throw half a block into the fire pit and it would light up the whole area like daylight (out in the az desert no less) speaking of bright white sparks, my dad's race engine snapped a crank in half due to a flaw, and it caused the flywheel to grind against the engine block then ignite, causing a flash so bright it was like a flash bang went off under the car. All the light was being sprayed out from a 1in square hole in the bottom of the transaxle that normally let's stuff like clutch dust out.
