Francine Valli Sings "I Try"

  • Here's another treat from that rainy Saturday night in Plainfield, NJ, way back in 1980. Actually, this is my favorite piece from the entire night, and I'm sure you'll see why. From the introduction, to the closing "thank you", this up-close and personal performance leaps off the master tape, and sticks in your head - whether you want it to, or not.

We got the Jersey Boys movie yesterday and watched it last night. I laughed, I cried and I sang along with the songs. Brought back so many great memories of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons music. I will remember it forever. May God Bless you Antonia and your family.

Wish she would have had her chance to shine. As the Jersey Boys Frankie Valli said "She has more range then me." This is a great song.

It just dawned on me that a year from now, this recording will be 40 years old!! I am shaking my head in disbelief - how does time pass this fast? I still remember that night, I met some members of the band, but I did not meet Francine. How I wish that I had! Once again - how I wish that I had.

Omg; Saw Jersey boys, loved it since I came from that era and just had to hear Francine sing, and Wow, this blew me away; her voice is so powerful and soul full, it's just a pity that we have lost so many talented young artists and this is surely one, what a bright musical future she had, not even close to her peak, very sad, wish we had more of her songs to listen to.

Beautiful voice and beautiful young lady. From another Jersey boy, Rest in Peace Francine. I met your dad and Bob Guadio at the Music Circus in Cherry Hill New Jersey as a young kid by sneaking under the tent and making my way to them during rehearsal. They were very nice to me and all signed a photo which I still have to this day at 68. My big question to your dad was, " are you going to sing Sherry?" Daaaaa.

I previously commented on this..three years ago. But I feel that I would like to expand upon that.
I first came to this through the "Jersey Boys " movie.
I had recently suffered the loss of my father and one evening I watched the movie.
After viewing it multiple times I really began to see a common theme or thread running through the story and that went a hell of a long way towards easing me through the difficult times after my dad passed away.
What that was for me was...that no matter what each of the characters were going through...regardless of how much trouble any of them had, they had each other's back.
And it was this that was of great help for me as I worked my way through the pain of losing not only my dad but also my cousin ( his niece) and my aunt ( his sister) all in the following year.
I almost obsessively listened to Frankie Valli cds....something in his voice just reached right in and touched my heart.
And then, because she is a part of the story, I decided to see if there was anything about Francine.
I wasn't sure that there would be much information available but was quiet pleasantly surprised to find these recordings of her singing....
Oh, good Lord what a talent she had.
She could have gone on to amazing success...
I am so sorry that she no longer walks on this plane of existence but I know she lives forever in the heart of her family....
And we are blessed to be able to hear that voice singing so beautifully in these recordings.
Every time that I have spoken to anyone regarding Frankie or "Jersey Boys " I make it a point to mention Francine and I always pull up this song for them to listen to.
I frequently listen to these performances and anyone who is nearby and hears what I am listening to wants to know who this is.
I honestly don't know if Toni still goes through comments here but I just want to say that I am not just speaking as a fan...but as someone who has experienced her own pain and darkness in life and thanks to your father....has come through it....and will forever be grateful to him for that.

The more i listen to this live performance of Francine, i can really see how much she had inherited from her Dad, Frankie. Theres a big similarity in the voice and the style between them both. I wish that she could have lived and not have been taken at such a young age. She had so much talent and very pretty as well. I know many years have gone by, but i would like to say that i am so very sorry to Frankie and his family for this terrible loss. RIP Francine. 🙏💖

Just saw jersey boy the movie....started doing more research on Frankie Valli....being a a father to my 6 yr old was so moved when she asked him to sing a song to her and he sang "my eyes adored you" only to lose her at the end of the movie killed me....I couldn't, and wouldn't ever want to know that pain, she had a very soulful voice. I'm not one to break down songs, but it's almost like she sang this song to him

Hi, Toni, I think you will remember me, I worked with you at Govel RE Agency in Belleville. My name is Deborah Cristino or it was. It is now Deb Jannarone (my maiden name). Anyhow, how are you and the family? I see your dad on & off. (I live in Las Vegas for the last 23 yr.) not so much since my parents passed away. I actually saw Tommy & his wife much more. Right after I left Govel (many, many, moons ago, I was told you had 2 boys. I hope and wish you're doing great. I was listening to Francine's song, what a beautiful voice, and a beautiful song. Of course, I saw Jersey Boys. it was Fantastic and the memories came flying back. (The Steven Crane Villiage and Silver Lake, too).
I wish you all the love, happiness and good health in the world. It made me feel good to reminise. XXOO Deb Jannarone.
