    I live in southeastern Georgia (US) and I can grow all these carnivorous plants outdoors all year round. Its a subtropical area of the US with lots of humidity all year round. Heavy rain in the summer and cool winters. Cool enough to trigger dormancy for VFTs. Maybe you should consider the US.

    I am so glad to hear you aren't giving up on the channel!
    I'm so sorry some of your plants have died. Here in Sydney the weather doesn't change as much throughout the seasons so dormancy comes a bit late. also it doesn't get as hot but these is still a lot of sunlight so the plants get sunlight with little risk of burning. I have grown highland nepenthes (burkei, st. pacificus and ventrata) but i did kill 2 ultra highlands (Rebecca Soper and Hookeri). But I just all VFTs, Sarracenias and droseras outside with no need of a grow tent or greenhouse. (if you have a spot in the sun). Sydney is really great for almost every CP.
    P.S. I have a Shuppensteil 1 plant so if it flowers i'll let you know!

      @@TheFlytrapGarden Yes, we just came out of "daylight saving".
      Daylight-saving time is the period during which the time is adjusted in order to gain an extra hour of daylight in the evening during part of the year. Daylight-saving time begins in the spring, when clocks are set one hour ahead. They are then set one hour back in the autumn. "so from the start of april to the start of october it gets dark around 6:00AM but the sun starts rising at about 6:15AM." My plants love getting the early warmth in the morning. It gives them lots of energy and thy develop such beautiful red colouration. I have a DCXL VFT and it is pretty much %90 red. Also I got a cephalotus from Triffid Park and it wasn't in the best shape when it came out of the post and it had no red colouration whatsoever and now after about 3 weeks it is producing big vibrant traps. I don't think queensland does daylight saving? But it does get colder in the night.

    • @TheFlytrapGarden
      @TheFlytrapGarden  2 роки тому +3

      QLD doesn't have daylight savings but I think per day we get more sunlight than NSW does on average as it is higher up towards the equator. But I am looking at moving possibly south

I am curious how you are allowing dormancy for your temperate Carnivorous plants. When the sun is way stronger than needed a shade cloth is used in greenhouses. I've seen some people who live in less than ideal climates use chest freezers outfitted with grow lights and temperature controls to insulate their plants, might be able to save some plants like that for the time being? Other ideas are shade cloths or umbrellas, insulate the boxes. Setting up a pond pump to circulate the water may help keep the roots cooler. Also it's hard see how close your tables are to that black fence and what material is made of, but it might be cooking your plants, I have a dark green metal retaining wall that radiates heat in the summer. Good luck and stay strong!

    I find that the cooler plants that you describe grow amazing in part shade. Part shade for me makes the droseras not lose there dew from drying out from the sun. Nepenthes for me do well in part shade too, so that the leaves don’t burn. Not too sure about sarracenias, they always love sun. Oh yeah, I would forget about cobra lilies sadly, until you find some type of grow room where you can alter the conditions. My experience With the conditions in southern Florida might differ from where you are at, but that’s just my experience on the plants you are struggling at in warmer areas.

    I stumbled across your channel just now. I've been trying to find some reliable information on fly traps (an soon sundews), for some time but keep running into the same issue. All the care information appears to be from the States and so you need to try to convert F into C and flip months around for southern hemisphere etc. Then you get someone telling you that you do everyting wrong. So living in Sydney it's much harder to find people who know what they're doing.
    I wanted to know if there is any way to help boost the size of the traps that the plant produces and also how long it takes for a plant reach a reasonably mature size.
    Again, I'm sure someone will say everyting I'm doing is wrong, but they are still alive and doing well.

    • @TheFlytrapGarden
      @TheFlytrapGarden  2 роки тому

      Hi, do you mean specifically VFT? They take up to 3/4 years from seed. The plant you get may be from bunnings, may take 6 months to 2 years to reach a decent size depending on their care
      There’s not much you can do to boost their growth besides feed them live insects or a diluted seasol and / or power feed solution

    • @nixontech
      @nixontech 2 роки тому

      @@TheFlytrapGarden Yes I bought 2 (7cm) pots from Bunnings 2 years ago and one has flowered three times and the other only the once, but never together. When I repotted them about 6 months ago I discovered a couple of babies and they were put into their own pot.
      I can see new growth with the babies, but its always small traps, while the original plants are at least 5 times their original size. In fact one has started to grow another flower now. I think I'm going to have to repot one of them again soon. It's a pity I can't send photos :)

I know that it might harm the plants at that temperatures. Do you recommend that a greenhouse will keep them alive and prevent the sun from harming the plants? Or do they just need more water?
