I still get excited to see a skate shop on UA-cam with a wall full of big boards from the 80's .
Another great episode Nate. Thank you
Thank you! This was one of my favorite ones to make - those old school decks have such a special place in my heart! Do you have a favorite 80s/90s deck?
Glad to see the old school skates are still around, keep them alive with skullskates and Powell Peralta
i had like 3 blockhead decks.i always had to have what nobody else had but i had like 5 powell decks over 3 or 4 yrs. then i had no brand loyalty.
Love the old school set ups. Makin me wanna skate again.
That's awesome! We are huge fans of the old school shapes and equipment and really enjoy the ride, compared to the popsicles and tiny wheels
Oi mate! Go outside and skate, you’ll never regret it. So go out there and have fun
@@Rich_kid_onLsd just picked up a Powell Peralta Andy Anderson 9.13 Flight deck. Gettin the itch. Lol
@@vi77ain7s2 nice
You know, I’ve got a pink 1986 Vision Mark Gonzales reissue
My first board was a Roskopp monster face in 1988ish. I love the shape of those decks! I have many on my wall. Powell is awesome for old school shape as well.
@Geezer Skate Co. this shop is dope as hell
We are big fans of The Point! They just opened their third location and each one has a different type of indoor bowl to skate
That indoor bowl looks really fun 😁that Lucero Madrid brings back memories, back in the 80's it was more about style then is trixies.
This bowl is amazing! And yes, that Madrid is sick, but not the best for street skating
I’m 23 and I Just started skating 2 months ago on the side of my main hobbies bmx and surfing, I fell in love with everything about skateboarding but my favorite era are the 80s and 90s so much customization options
Heck yeah! So glad you're on a board, sidewalk surfing! The shapes from the 80s and 90s, along with all the wheel options, as well as safety equipment such as rails, tail bones, nose guards, etc. were the best! I love that so many are getting reissued! What is your setup for skating?
This video reminds me of Sandra Bullock's character in Demolition Man, telling Sylvester Stallone's character how she's a history expert.
Oh yeah, Sandra in Demolition Man - classic! I need to watch that again!
I'm someone who won't touch a deck below 9.2, heres my current setup
Heroin Skateboards Dead Dave Gallo Deck 9.7
54 mm dial tone wheels
Independent 215 trucks
Bones Red bearings
Jessup Griptape
Heroin Glow Sticks rails
Independent risers, Don't remember the size though, but it's good enough for me
That sounds like an amazing set up! Those Heroin decks are killer. I'll have to check out those wheels - mostly riding 60mm here, but I've been thinking about going smaller. My current deck is a Scram Whopper - 10.25" which feels awesome - I can't imagine skating a popsicle, unless it's at least 9.5"!
great video ! heartwarming memories from these boards thank you for showing us this gem of a store
You are very welcome! We are big believers in our local skate shops and hope you have one too! If not, the Point is online, so be sure to check them out
oh damn that bowl is nice. everything goes full circle. great to see santa cruz with their shaped deck line reissues with more modern concave. skaters of all ages would definitely use them.
Awesome presentation of an awesome shop
Thanks! We are big fans of the Point! Do you have a killer skate shop in your town?
@@GeezerSkateCo Unfortunately I don't...not much at all in this one horse town lol
@@darklight4815 - totally understand that! Growing up in a small town in east Texas (pop. 3,000), there was no skate shops for us either, so living in the DFW metroplex now, surrounded by several awesome shops is a blessing. @@GeezerSkateCo Right on 🤘💀🤘
My first board was a no name brand mini 27” cruiser I gave a custom graphic and some old Gullwing Mission 1 trucks *I got it 3 years ago and still holds to this day
Sweet! What terrain are you riding - skateparks, pools, ditches, sidewalks?
@@GeezerSkateCo cobblestone and Rocky streets in Florida
I love the Jeff Kendall pro 86 , im riding one atm and i call it the shotgun as it kinda feels like it lol when im riding it ,
My 1st pro model was Jeff Kendall “World Ends” in white deck!#JimPhillips#SantaCruz#🛹🔥✨
I was 100% a street skater and never touched these old school decks when I skated but I recently have found a lot of love for them. Love the design on them. I mainly use them for cruising. I just bought the 12 edition reissue Tony Hawk and Lance Mountain decks. They're sweet!
Sorry for the late reply - you got a killer setup it sounds like! Yeah, it's a whole different feel to skate these old school set ups, but I've been doing it so much now that the popsicles feel odd
I’m noticing that these classic shapes are coming back into popularity which is super cool. Christopher Hiett rides one and he’s insanely good, he rides for Powell
Yeah. Ramps were in cali or on properties in the country. We didn’t have skateparks. We had the street. And the authorities. still do.
i didnt have a choice but street skate before i lived in houston.those were what i use used.not that i dont like newer boards.i dont know why anyone would want the hosoi . the tail is real flat.
sweet shop...ya gotta protect dem' graphics! ya gotta!!!!
You're right about that - LOL- but for the old school reissues, I would want to protect them.
Nah just ride it!
I remember my first ever real skateboard was a purple Santa Cruz Jeff Kendall. My next board was a Santa Cruz Rob Robskopp in yellow. I then met Bryce Kanights who skated with a few of my friends and he gifted me a Madrid Mini BK in which I snapped in half ollying stairs. Eventually, I got a local sponsorship from Fogtown and their signature board was The Beast. Probably one of the best old school boards I have ever rode. If you can someone find that deck, I’d be impressed. I miss good old days.
Wow, that’s incredible! Do you still have any of those boards? So cool that BK hooked you up - I’d love to meet him!
@@GeezerSkateCo Back in those days, I’ve crossed paths with quite a few of those guys. BK was a cool guy. I’ve skated with Tommy G. Even got to skate with Hosoi for a few hours at Golden Gate Park here in SF. It was a huge skating scene with ramps set up in a few spots. I remember that we were all hungry and skated to a McDonalds close by. Those boards are long gone. I wish i had kept them to hang in my home office. Or my old Santa Cruz Blur wheels all coned out.
I remember in the early 90s I first skated with one of those cheap toys r us boards, and then on my birthday upgraded to a Chris cook board with the bull and had the clear grip tape, so the top of my board was red and the bottom was green with the slimball wheels. Loved that board.
Sounds like an awesome setup! Do you still have it?
@@GeezerSkateCo I don’t, it got snapped in half on a curve, but one day I would love to come across another. Loved that board.
Place is like a candy store. Looks amazing.
It really is! I can spend way too much time and money here!
I wish they did a Jeff Phillips re issue! That dude was a legend here in Tx!
There really needs to be a Jeff Phillips re-issue! No idea why there hasn't been yet. Would love to see a Sims or a BBC re-issue! Maybe we should start a campaign to make that happen!
@@GeezerSkateCo amen to that!
he came and skated with us at houston skatepark a few times.he came the same day i was skating with bob burnquist before anyone knew who he was(for real) he barely spoke english
The point that’s in Dallas Texas in deep elem I see that shop from the club crosss the street every time I’m out there nvm that’s the Fairview location cuz the Dallas location has in indoor bowl as well
I believe the Money bumps were over the back trucks Powell Peralta was the first I saw doing it… still cruise and blockhead!
Interesting! Do you think it helps/helped with grabs?
i got the sam cunningham 2 times and i dont even know if hes a real person the deck really fit me well.
Keep the oldschool decks alive especially SKULLSKATES and madrid powell peraltta bones street cubics with German speed bearings 🇨🇦
earth is flat. That blue 80s skateboard with the pink wheels would be excellent
It is a great setup for sure!
They need to reissue some of the obscure Shmitt Stix. My favorite was a Tarampula! You could eat cereal off the deck! Great Concave!!
Brad Dorfnan owns all the rights to Schmitt Stix . Really sad bc I’d love another Andy Howell.
Great skate shop!
We LOVE It
I’m over in San Antonio, just got hooked on big boards. Love the lappers and copers!!!
Awesome! Love the old school here too! What are you riding now? Are you rocking rails and other old school protective gear for your board?
@@GeezerSkateCo I got the lucero backwards text board with the cross, yellow stain and pink cross, yes I got pink rib bones! And I also want a tail bone but the new old stock ones are expensive and they don’t make pink anymore. I got ace 99s and I’m seriously thinking about getting a lapper like the bird.
Hey, this is Jason! I use to go too Elementary school with Drew! Moore! GREAT VIDEO! COOL FACT ABOUT DREW! his dad use to work at a toy shop, and would come to the school lunch and talk to the kids.

that blue Santa Cruz special edition is SO SIIIIICK OMG I need that one now !
How great are those??? Santa Cruz and Powell are really great with their reissues every year! You gotta check out Brand-X too - they weren’t in this video, but they have some killer reissues now! Also, Madrid Skates!

Those are fantastic decks! Wall hangers or riders?
@@GeezerSkateCo well, last time I got an h street pool and park and made a complete with gull wings and clear grip for my brother cause it was so close to his first board. i have the dog town deck but in purple. i had it back in the day ,i broke my ankle learning how to wall ride on it probably because it was a small skateboard like 8 in.i got a suggestion for an old school board for the posers in your life ,get them a nash or a variflex instead of weight bench because those things were not concave and had like 30lbs of guards on it to protect the lamest paint and graphic job with some ridiculous theme

Just got myself a 9.5 scram deck with some pop on the nose 🔥
Awesome! Scram is a great company - love their decks - I have a 10" Whopper that they put out a year or so ago.
Really nice shop, I am curious about how the boards are mounted on the wall, it looks like a 2x6 with slits cut in it at an angle. I can't tell what's holding them in place, just the curve of the nose kick?
Thanks for watching! Yep; the nose is holding them in place - it’s really cool to see them in person
awesome old school skate boards!!
I know - right?!
My ray Rodriguez re issue has soggy pop, and is pretty waterlogged with a chipped nose, still one of the best decks I've ever skated, I'm now getting a Franky hill reissue, wanna try out fat noses
Let me know how you like the Frankie Hill - I’m a big fan of that shape!
never skate in the rain or snow
Slime ball wheels are awesome for vert .
Took Powell peralta ages to reissue my red bat cab but glad they did
Such a killer graphic! Love that one
i had 2 of those one was the xl remember that?it had like roof tar paper between the plys
Powell Peralta Cubic wheels stick out past the axle so they didn't dig into the pool or the ramp
THIS IS SO SICK!!!!! Lifesaver video. Do they have a website where i can buy boards???

I own a black John lucero jester and it’s awsome
Very cool! I have the pink and blue versions of that one - I want to get the black for the trifecta!
159 indys work better if you dont just wanna cruise. 1/4" risers with tight trucks and 3/8" with looser trucks as long as you dont run over 63mm wheels
Good to know! What’s your current setup? I’m rocking the 159s on a couple of my old school setups with 60mm Slime Balls and 1/2” risers.
@@GeezerSkateCo i have a few boards but my main is a Natas colorway deck with 1/4 risers, 161 thunder trucks and 60mm oj team rider wheels. As a beater i have a moose deck old school board with 1/4 risers, 8.5"/149 gullwing trucks and 60mm slime ball wheels. And of course rails on everything. I recommend Moose decks for any old school skaters wanting to get back into it on a budget they feel very familiar to to 80s decks and seem to take a beating.
That’s cool to know about Moose - I’m not familiar with that brand, but will check them out - thanks for the heads up!

I really want an reissue, but with Indy 179’s no longer available.... kinda not period correct, unless you go 215’s on one of the really wide decks. I’m leaning that direction, but 215’s are kinda hard to find too.
Go with Gullwing Pro III's, period correct and they look great!

Is he from independence Virginia?
No, Drew from the Point hails from Houston. Does he remind you of someone from Independence?
Geezer or someone else can you help me out in my question, I would appreciate it.
I just bought a Santa Cruz board that is 9.35 x 31.7 and I want to know if these trucks and wheels will fix correct on it. Ok the trucks are Independent Stage 11 169 Forged Titanium and the wheels are Oj's Elites Hardline 99a. I'm deciding on the size and do you think a 55 or 56mm will fit correct?
I want a wheel that is a medium size so not to big and not to small and I want something with speed and and good sliding but still maintain a smooth ride on the rough streets. I'm more of a old school skater in doing tricks from the 80's so this new stuff kinda throws me off when it comes to sizes and stuff.
Hey Frosty Mike! Great questions!
1) The Indy 169s are perfect for that deck size
2) For your wheels, go with the 56mm - they'll wear down over time with power slides and rough terrain, but if you start bigger, they'll give you more life.
Hope that helps!
Hey there Geezer, thanks for replying back and answering my questions. :)
Ok i'll get those trucks but what do you think of them as a review and are they popular since they are Forged Titanium? Now about the wheels I do like sliding alot but I don't want a big wheel because I already have a 60m and they are huge. I was thinking of the 55m instead but like you said they will wear down so I might get the 56m.
In your opinion are those Oj's wheels any good?
i wanted exactly what you do and i went with 95 a and they are still too hard for these city streets also i remembered to late i used to always ride 60mm bullets not the real big ones 60mm was normal then
Only issue here is that you should really have 70mm wheels on them!
Have seen a 100mm wheel? Those are insane!
are these decks harder to skate then normal popsicles? in terms of like ollies and stuff
Great question! In my experience, yes, it is harder to ollie and certainly to do flip tricks on, as they are heavier, usually with a steeper tail and typically are set up with larger wheels (60mm or bigger) along with a riser pad, so you have to use more force for your ollie. But with practice, you can get it, and it looks really cool, just be aware that it feels different and will take some time to get used to.
Back in the 1980s, it was normal to do ollies, kickflips etc on the old wide boards. I actually remember learning to kickflip on one of these big boards during the 80s and I got the hang of it really quickly (while holding on to a fence.) Got the kickflip on my first or second attempt. But if it's mainly flip tricks that you're into, then a popsical shape would be more ideal. But the old boards are great for old street tricks like grabs. And due to the large size, they're nice and stable for landings. And some people like that stability for riding ramps and bowls.
the hosoi is a flat tail make sure you check it out before you buy it.he was my favorite skater back then and thats the only reason i wouldn't buy one.
You didn't film the Madrid tails. Fack! It's hard with these vids, nobody will show you a profile.
You are right - that was a huge oversight in this video. In another video, focusing on old school shapes, would you like to see the boards from all angles, showcasing kick and nose (if any), along with concave and wheel wells?
@@GeezerSkateCo Thank you yes the 'foil' of the board basically. Thanks btw for sharing your appreciation.
Where are those Uncle wiggly reissues....
Darn good question - do you know if there are plans to re-issue those? I'd love to get my hands on them!
hahahah i forgot about those no way
🤘🏽
With the cruz boards that are 10.34, would I have to use the 215 truck?
You could probably get away with 169s, if those are easier to find
@@GeezerSkateCo theres 1 store that has 1 pair left in stock of the 215 (uk) so thinking I'll just grab them. Thanks.
