My family would vacation here every summer back in the 80's and early 90's.. Good memories!

Visited this in the early 70’s and so happy to see the progress in restoration that has occurred!!!

Went there as a child, but this was great to see the inside looking so gorgeous and restored to how the family most likely would have wanted it? If only she had not passed what a grand life they both would have lived there! Perhaps now they are living in the home right now in spirit as now they are together and that is where their heart always stayed?

I was 12 in 76' summer family tourist boat cruise. The castle was very moving, even at 12. Seeing and standing inside this sad story. Right before your eyes. Ghostly, dusty, material piles. Yes and 70's crazy dangerous, cavernous holes. Different times...
He left all this behind ? "that's a broken heart" .... to never return to such a lovely promise of hope.
I am sure the Boldt family would have been a pillar of hospitality and support, had the spell not been broken. Sudden death at 41.
Wonderful restoration and looks well worth the boat ride. Very important human story. You can't complete a home, nor mend a broken heart... even with a castle on a beatiful island.... without love.

I think the first time I was there I was 13. I’m 60 now. It was mostly ruins and graffiti. I’ve been back several times as my family vacationed by renting a houseboat for two weeks every year. It was nice to see all the renovations. Thank you!

I believe the odd shaped “indoor swimming pool” that you referred to was actually a storage tank area for the water which ran the elevator where water was pumped from the lower tank to a tank in the upper story and visa versa to lift and lower the elevator. This expense was 1/4 the cost of running a steam elevator as the water was used over and over again. Check “elevator world” dot com for a better description of its workings! FYI

Lovely tour. I haven't been to the Castle in over 25 years. There have been many positive changes as I remember graffiti on the 1st floor. I am so glad it is being renovated. It is a magical place. Thank you for the tour! 🏰🙂

I was sad to see a lot of graffiti on the upper floors. Maybe they will cover it up.

If they paint a couple of coats of white paint over the graffiti and leave everything else alone I think that would be best.

This was a very nice video! I want to go there now! I wonder why his wife died of heart failure at such a young age! But she did get to live in the castle for a little while didn’t she?

No I don't believe it was ever finished enough at the time of her death to stay there if I remember correctly.

Thank you Maryla. From what understand Boldt Castle has changed a lot in the last 15 years. We might go back against in the future as more if the castle is updated. Thanksgiving to you and your family too.

The first time that I visited....the castle was a ruin. The plan, at that time was not to restore it.

The pool is not actually a swimming pool. it was a water storage solution that they used though out the castle.

I believe this was discovered and not "built" by Mr Boldt.

    • @paultimerman9673
      @paultimerman9673 Рік тому +1

It was built by Boldt from the ground up. It replaced a previous "cottage", aka large luxury home, on the island
