What a lovely walk in stunning countryside, when I saw Golden Valley my immediate thought was the west of Hereford! glad the weather was kind to you on this one Patrick.
There's a Golden Valley in Derbyshire too, but not on a par with this one or the one in Herefordshire 😀 Glad you enjoyed the walk Steve, thanks as always for watching 👍
Fabulous rolling countryside walking, Patrick...another gem! If this is the last vlog before Xmas, we wish you a great festive season, and look forward to more adventures in 2025. Take care.
Many thanks for that John. There will be one more this Friday, then more will be published as of 10th Jan. Hope you have a great Christmas too. All the best 👍
Beautiful video and lovely places to visit too! Always a pleasure to watch one of your videos Patrick! Have a good Christmas & best new year wishes to you. ❤️xx
Thank you as always Sylvia, much appreciated! 😀 There's one more video this Friday, then more as of middle of January. Have a great Christmas and New Year too! 👍😀
Lovely walk there Patrick! beautiful scenery! great vlog and it was obvious you enjoyed going back to your childhood memories travelling around with your Grand dad most enjoyable! Best wishes Darren👍👍👍
This is definitely an area of outstanding beauty, Patrick. Luscious green fields and woods prevail. The church at Shirenewton is a lovely building both inside and outside. The castellated tower is very impressive. One of the paths you take earlier on, shows one of the fields with the most unusual scene of what looks like a row poplar trees in the middle. The former golf course has the grass kept short, too. The Severn Bridge distant views are lovely indeed, and most welcome. It's understandable as to why you frequented the area when you were younger. Many thanks for this, Patrick. Good helath.
Golden Valley is certainly an apt name for that part, very lush indeed, and still looks good for an ex-golf course. Yes those were poplar trees at the start of that valley. I was glad to have got inside Shirenewton church. It was nice to do this walk so that I could film it as it's not one I ever did before. Thanks as always Ffranc for watching and commenting 👍
Hello Patrick , this walk was amazing , that old golf course looks so stunning green fields and trees loved it all . Made me smile when you said it took you 40 yrs to walk there , I have to tell you I born just outside Newent in sight of May Hill it took me 40 years for me to walk up to the top and that was 32 yrs ago so I will hopefully do in 8 yrs again :) Thank you Patrick .
The Golden Valley was so lush, you could tell that's where a golf course once stood. It's often the way though, isn't it, when you live somewhere but don't explore what's close to you. Thanks for watching Shaun, all the best 👍
just watched your walk.it was delightful.the views were amazing.and not forgetting the lovely music.i find it so interesting when you talk about your family history and the places you went to.the church at shire Newton looked so lovely inside and out.what a beautiful village.hope your mum had a nice birthday.can't wait for another walk.take care.👍👍❤️❤️
Thank you so much Shane for all your kind words as always and for watching. Glad you found my family history interesting. Shirenewton is a nice little place and I was so happy to get inside this church. Mum enjoyed her birthday thanks. All the best 👍
This walk was beautiful. Golden Valley with it's pastures and trees then onto the hill fort. Walking those trails gave you time to reflect on your trips out with your grandfather. Every walk around your old haunts brings back the past. Maybe it was Arthur and Guineveres bodies they discovered at the fort. My sister lived in Minehead in Somerset for a while, as she was a red coat. Her boyfriend was from Tradegar and I noticed the inn bore that place name. Lovely to see wheat and corn growing. You have done well lately with churches. That was an old one and had aged well. It's aged better than Thomas Beckett did. Enjoyable as always. Cheers Patrick 😊
Glad you enjoyed this walk Kelly. The Golden Valley indeed was very lush and green, my first time there too, as well as the walk up to the fort. The recent walks are certainly taking me to places bringing back all these memories. You could well be right about King Arther and Guinevere. Tredegar was a common name around South Wales, so I bet there are more inns with that name. The school houses at my secondary school were named after Welsh towns, and one was Tredegar house. I was pleased to have entered this church, lovely indeed. Thanks Kelly, all the best 👍
Lovely video, Patrick. I remember Cleggy's quote in Last of the Summer Wine-"Everything's basically alright with the World, while there's still racing at Chepstow!".
Super nice walk Patrick starting with the church. I think my favoroute parts of the route have to be the Golden Valley and Llanmelin Wood Hill Fort. I see the horse racers like the former too. As for the hill fort I loved the meadow up there. So many flowers - truly a delight. I can imagine King Arthur liking it too. Ha ha! Well, great to remember your grandad. I bet he was a good man. All the best up there. Mark
Morning Mark, glad you liked this walk. Yeah the Golden Valley and the fort was a great route, new to me too. It was hard to find a clear way around the fort due to the overgrown vegetation, but I bet if anyone cuts that down at all, it will look even nicer. Good to see all those flowers though indeed. Yeah good old King Arthur eh 😁 I used to go all over the place with my Grandad before I discovered walking on my own at a slightly older age, a lot of good memories there. Well thanks Mark, all the best down your way too 👍
@@solitaryrambler Hey, Patrick - pleasant out there especially the Golden Valley. Ah, more bush bashing - great fun amid the flowers and King Arthur. Hood to hear of your gramps Patrick - never forgotten. A pleasure as always.
Brilliant walk Patrick 👍🤠 the hill fort was interesting I especially enjoyed seeing the lovely flower meadows on its site 🙏🏼 Best wishes for 2025 Simon
Plenty of familiar looking sights in this one, Patrick. Most notably, The Cwm. I've walked up and down there a couple of times. Quite a lovely place! I think you did well to avoid the footpaths that cross Combe Farm. I seem to remember some difficulties following a route there myself, with overgrown pathways. It's been a pleasure to follow your videos from this trip. I look forward to seeing your latest.
Good to hear from you Olly. I seem to remember you posting a blog or two before now around this area. As you know, The Cwm is lovely, so just following that lane was like walking along a quiet footpath. Re: Combe Farm, it sounds like a lot of the rights of way around there are quite tricky then. Certainly the route climbing out of The Cwm to Lower Argoed before meeting the Shirenewton road I found to be very tricky, so I didn't film much on that section apart from a couple of views. Thanks for watching Olly, pleased you've been enjoying the latest videos. Hope you're keeping well, all the best 👍
What a lovely village Shirenewton and the birds sounded like music to my ears. I can tell you'r fond of churches. Golden Valley scenery, agree had appealing scenery. I noticed similar map problems to Michael. Love your guitar chord progression intro and those sustained synths very effective. p.s. I wonder who was Frances???🤔🤫
Hi Shanita, yes I do love my churches. Shirenewton is lovely and the Golden Valley blew me away here as it's the first time I've seen it. Pleased you liked my guitar chords, thanks so much for your kind words. It's another previously used theme, but a new version. Well I remember liking Frances at the time in school, I would have been 11-15 years old! 😂 Thanks Shanita, all the best 👍
Hi Patrick, great videos as usual and I also live in Mynyddbach 😊 I think I know the lady Frances that you referred to, one of 4 sisters? They all moved away but their parents lived here until very recently. Keep up the good work okay? Regards Gareth.
Hi Gareth, nice to hear from you. Frances was my age, so about 58/59 now. Her surname began with A, but I don't recall if she had any sisters to be honest. Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated. All the best 👍😀
@solitaryrambler Thanks Patrick, I love the content that you produce and enjoy each new one. Just so you know, we are definitely talking about the same person, we even might of known each other all those years ago as I am 61, but you might of more likely known my brother Neil who is 59. Anyway keep up the good work and have a great Christmas/ NY.
Another lovely walk thank you. Jan
Another peaceful walk Patrick, beautiful scenery and fabulous trees. Thanks for sharing it.
You are very welcome, many thanks for watching 👍

Thanks Darren, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😀 I always enjoy reminiscing about my childhood when I walk around these old haunts. All the best 👍
Very lovely. Stunning hydrangeas. That's a lot of grass to cut on old golf course, looks wonderful. Thanks Patrick.
Thanks again Lesley. Yes the old golf course looks really lush, Golden Valley is a very apt name 👍😀
Another lovely walk Patrick with beautiful scenery, you never fail 😊. I've just sat and watched with a cup of coffee. Have a good weekend 😊
Morning Steph, nice to know I can still deliver the goods 😁 Thanks as always for watching, enjoy your weekend too 👍

Wow I've been to Shirenewton many times and never knew about Golden Valley. The locals must be keeping it a secret for themselves :) Great walk!
I only found out about Golden Valley recently too during my online research of this area, glad I discovered it. Thanks for watching 👍😀
That was indeed a lovely area. Nice walk Patrick.
Thanks Michael, glad you enjoyed it 👍
