This is a re-edit of the original video I had up before. It unfortunately got done for copyright recently. So had to re upload! Any likes are much appreciated 👍
5:47 Gladiators never existed. Ancient Rome & Greece are myths, likes Jesus Christ and Gravity.
LOOK AT THE REAL COLOSSEUM! 👀🧠
It's a power plant, 2 teens can barely pass each other let alone have someone fight there.
IT'S JUST A STORY!
Hollywood =/= Reality
Experience. Lefties are used to fighting righties. Trade off lefties tend to be less two handed. Southpaws are cross dependent. Open stances makes it harder to land the jab and hook
what are trade off lefties?
you mean SWITCH-HITTER? 😒
Say switch hitter, trade off lefty is a weird term
@@hakunamatata-w3873switch hitter
@@hakunamatata-w3873 I think he means the trade-off of being a lefty. As a southpaw I think he is right when he says we are more cross dependent, and don't use the right for much more than distance management + checkhooks. (For the most part)
Also Edwin Valero, a natural right hander turned showpaw, 27-0 all wins by KO cannot be overlooked, in my opinion.
Quality fighter my brother showed me , ashame what happened with him
I did not know Edwin V is a convert. Would explain why his southpaw right was just as bad along with his flat footedness. Weaker leg in the back less bounce to spring off of
Overlooked southpaw Winky Wright. He had a simple style and wasn’t fancy. High guard and jab. Good guy to study for southpaws starting out
My coach has started to teach me southpaw after doing orthodox for 2 years, it feels so weird to begin with but Im starting to get the hang of it. Since Im left legged my left is still pretty powerful. Really opens up more opportunities when sparring people when you can switch stance, I usually start in southpaw now and establish my jab since its pretty hard with my dominant hand and I am good at keeping my lead foot on the outside, then I swap to orthodox and try to land that left hook to the liver, such an addictive feeling when you land it flush
Micky Ward (orthodox) would often turn southpaw in the pocket, to throw the left to the liver.
@@BoxingLifedefinately going to work on that sequence today on the bag, my inside game needs some more tricks to it as I feel really one dimensional in the pocket.
I like the idea with training in both stance as well but my coach gets mad at me
when i practice my southpaw game
@@KS-ur8nj if hes like my coach then he probably wants you to get proficient enough in your natural stance before learning the other.
I also tried switch hitting on my own earlier but it really is best to focus on one first to get it natural.
Now i give the same advice to newer people in my club, who try to switch stances when their natural stance is still full of holes.
Since you’re left legged your southpaw left must be good too. Better rear hand than most who switched stances
Do you think it’s a simple detail that as a southpaw the first thing you are told in the gym is get your foot on the outside of theirs. So everything a southpaw does is about positioning. Whereas as orthodox fighters sadly positioning is rarely discussed in the same way. It’s sadly more about grit and determination. Definitely not how I teach at my gym. Position and base is key for everyone
Totally depends on the gym, trainer and the level. But yes I agree positioning is something that doesn’t get talked about enough at times for orthodox fighters.
well said
Hm. Very good point.
Bernard Hopkins was a master of open stance matches. He’d get in sneaky sniper rear hands on open stance opponents
Usyk is left handed as he writes with his left hand 😊
Sergio Martinez best started boxing late in life southpaw. So much raw talent he even got away with fighting with his hands down and had a pretty good lead hand for a southpaw too
My favourite southpaw fighter oleksandr usyk i am a ortodox fighter but i can fight in my southpaw stance
great breakdown...i'm a right handed southpaw, also switch to find new options, been boxing for 40+ years...learn to do both, start with a ratio of 90:10 then drill til you can get to 60:40/50:50... keep up the good work 🙏
❤️❤️
mayweather fought 10 southpaws which is 20% of his fights and all came up short, should also be in there as an example how to beat southpaws. he has a great lead right and knows how to manage the positioning between them.
southpaw doesn't give you any advantage, if anything they cancel each other out since both persons lead hand is mirroring each other
Floyd made beating the greatest southpaw a breeze. Having the most accurate right hand ever gave Floyd an edge over lefties
@@user-dc9oq2pr6v The advantage is familiarity. The Left has fought more orthodox fighters and practiced the needed combinations and foot work more often than the orthodox fighter has done the same for southpaws generally.
Love the insightful information you have provided 👌
I’m glad I’m a southpaw boxer, while being left handed. Not that I’m saying orthodox fighters suck, absolutely not, they just don’t encounter a lot of southpaw fighters. I started orthodox and it didn’t go well, being gassed out and tired in a few minutes. Then, I went southpaw a few times and felt totally different. I felt more postured and had better control of my stance. And that’s how southpaw became my stance, and also how Manny Pacquiao got me into boxing. 🥊🙂
Some of the best Southpaw's ive seen is Pernell Whitaker, Marvin Hagler, Mark Johnson, Manny Pacquiao, Vasyl Lomachenko,Winky Wright, Ivan Calderon, Hector Camacho, Joe Calzaghe,
Its bizarre knowing that albeit southpaw being originally for left handers, it’s mostly right handed guys fighting as southpaw, Manny Pacquiao, Lomachenko, Hagler, etc all write with their right. Only so called „True“ Southpaws are Usyk, Davis, and Whitaker who write with their left
Watching Pirog again brings tear to my eye 👁️👁️👁️
This man Boxing Life has a better work rate than Usyk.
I prefer watching righties turned southpaw than lefties turned right. Lefties gone right often results in a very one handed fighter. Their backhand is lacking. Righties turned left land the southpaw jab and hook in ways that true lefties do not
My humble opinion is that open stance fights (southpaw vs Orthodox) have a lot more small complexities like front foot dominance and the fact your backhand is lined up very well but your lead hand is less effective because it's right on top of your opponents. Making southpaws who have more experience fighting open stance always at a big advantage. The open stance also very much throws off the shoulder roll defense which when done correctly is one of the most dominant forms of defense. Using the shoulder roll gets you hit in the back of the head a lot in open stance fights too. A strong effective long guard seems to be the best way to go by using the lead hand to make your opponents lead hand more predictable. Just some small things I've picked up on over the years. It's very interesting how much of a difference it can have
I grew up playing pretty much all sports but stuck to basketball baseball and boxing as I got older. In baseball I pitches right handed but batted left handed, basketball I shot right handed and I boxed lefty. I gold left handed. I write righthanded. I consider myself right handed. I don't think it's a right or left handed thing for me it's my foot placement. I'm more explosive jumping off my left leg.
More confusing and hard to deal with doesn’t necessarily mean better or more naturally gifted or skilled.
I don't like when people say if you're right handed you can't be a natural southpaw, like your natural stance is southpaw. What are your thoughts on that?
Misconception. You’re dominant hand should be you’re back hand cuz it’s the hand you typically use to knock you’re opponent out.
@@marklopez5328 But that's the thing I'm right handed, was born right handed. But my strong hand is my left, but I'm right handed. My natural stance always been southpaw, even though I'm right handed
@@ronin3635 I mean if you feel more comfortable with southpaw and feel stronger with southpaw there’s nothing wrong with that in my opinion
@@Chris-db9vt It just seems some people can't believe that if you're right handed you can't be a natural southpaw. I always been a southpaw, never once stood Orthodox.
Imo footedness should determine your stance. Stronger foot in the back for a stronger base for balance and torque. Most righties are right footed also.
i thank god im a southpaw naturally 🙏🏾💯
Can you please drop the switch hitter video
beautiful shadow boxing style, Jamie!
some people or styles dominate southpaws. mayweather got great at dealing with them. james toney said it made no difference, and they're easier. he says a lot of things but his fights prove it. southpaws are good at open stance fighting, but struggle with closed stance (other southpaws).
Floyd had the most accurate right hand ever. His edge over lefties. Jamez Toney fought up close inside which negates the novel southpaw angles
May we southpaws rain forever ❤
Back in the day orthodox would refuse to fight southpaws. This should continue if u are orthodox and wanna win
Is this a re-upload?
Yes
Yes original got done for copyright! So had to reedit and upload again
Usyk is naturally left handed
Southpaws also have a natural tendency/ease to switch stances freely between orthodox and southpaw stances, as suppose to orthodox who find it difficult to switch in between unless they practise it for a very long period.
I always thought that, im orthodox but all of my fav boxers like Tank, Crawford, Ennis fight southpaw and theres something unique in all of them. Im going to practice the southpaw stance with drills and heavy bag work until im comfortable and learning the two stances is a cheat code
Left handed southpaw. Forced to use my right hand growing up. Fav southpaws Jiro Watanabe, Khaosai Galaxy, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Pernell Whitaker, Yoko Gushiken.
if ur right handed but train south paw dont you get your left arm become as strong as your right? Isnt that the main advantage to have 2 right arms?
I’ve seen the opposite happen when people convert stances. Since the rear hand is used less it becomes further undeveloped. Converting can lead to becoming a one handed fighter. Miguel Cotto Oscar de La Hoya Victor Ortiz.
And also Abdullah Mason and Jaron Ennis
Excellent video, the editing was smooth and your narration is good. Hopefully you don't have to deal with another takedown.
Thanks Peter! Yeah fingers crossed this time!
I’m right handed and fighting orthodox feel so weird
Just the difference in preparation, an orthodox is most likely to spar against another orthodox all his life, instead southpaw would spar orthodox almost every time, so the difference in volume of preparation gives that little little advantages that makes the difference at the highest level
Tank is my favourite as he boxes a lot like me
Usyk is actually left handed. I've seen him sign stuff with his left hand. A righty would not do that. There are plenty of videos on YT showing this. Loma is right handed and a southpaw, so I think people just tacked that assumption onto Usyk, when they are incorrect.
Not sure how you could do a video like on Southpaws and not mention, Michael Nunn, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Jaron Ennis, or any of the Gary Russell brothers. 🥲
Loma is actually right handed, Mike Tyson was left handed same as Oscar dela hoya.
Mike was a physical specimen. I would not have imagined the right was his offhand. It still cracked even as his rear hand
not Mike, he writes with his right
Crawford is both
True! But he’s always been better as a southpaw in my opinion.
Easy raspy reminds of you of who? What an interesting fetail
Dominate in Boxing today*
Pretty simple you can fight around and confuse your opponent
There’s hope for the righties. Orthies tend to have better jabs and hooks. Question is can you land it. Floyd had the jab, hook, and str8 while reducing manny to only the left!
He also clinched a hell of a lot that fight as well.
I’m left handed and left footed how rear is that 🤷🏻.
Southpaws were know as assassins 😊
Left handed but cannot fight I'm southpaw stance. I heard I am unorthodox because of that
I think another reason is because most people aren’t southpaws so you don’t get to train with that many
Check out Naoya Inoue's latest match with Nery. He broke him down bit by bit. I'd like to know what is the purpose of playing patty-cake against a southpaw lead hand with your own? Is it a timing or rhythm thing? He does it in rounds 2,3 and 4
I remember Naoya also tapped a lefty’s lead hand before ko’ing him with the right. That was a vicious 1-2 dart
Roy Jones Jr said this. "This generation of fighters are so one dimensional with no footwork whatsoever. Neither fighting in the Olympics or invitationals that would develop them, young western fighters dont have any other tricks to rely on. The southpaw learns to be deceptive with his range much earlier in his career in order to land real power out of multiple stances." PERIOD
I train both sides. I am a dancer so it's natural to train both sides.
126 wins and 3 defeats, the rest of squad looks like lomo, lomo looks at narrator 'dude
Other than uysk can really call it dominance tank does not fight top opps and Crawford is inactive to the point he should be stripped
Crawford fights his mandatory what's wrong with that
In reality, most top fighters are orthodox/northpaw
If you wanna see how to beat southpaw just watch artur beterbiev vs usyk 2012 olympics
So, who's the best southpaw of all time?
For me it's Marvin Hagler
Pernell or Marvin!
Pernell, Pacquiao, Hagler, Usyk, Loma
Hmm... Switch hitters are allowed? I would put Hagler number 1 on the list-but he's not a pure southpaw... 🤔
I guess Manny.
Pernell beats manny comfortably. they’re both lefties which opens up a lane for Pernell’s superior jab. Jab would be in manny’s face all night. Frustrated manny would overextend as he struggles to cut the ring off and eat counters
Tank’s so lucky to be in these conversations. His PR is unparalleled, it’s just like Wilder back in the day but even worse. He avoids all the fights he needs to become great, and instead takes the path of least resistance. He’s not P4P top 15, he’s not the face of Boxing, and he’s not had an elite level career up until now. He has to fight Loma and Shakur in the next 18 months, or he’ll never be the fighter his fans obviously want him to be.
You just a hater tbh
Tank resume is solid
Shakur is not a real southpaw in his back hand ain’t shit it’s his weak hand, and you can tell
It's just because southpaws are used to fighting orthodox fighters and orthodox fighters aren't used to fighting southpaws
they took easy way! 😂😂 just kidding
Pacquiao is The Greatest Southpaw of all time
Because they sold their soul to the devil.
Damn
Damn
