  • In this video, dog trainer Alex Antoniazzi will be sharing his expert opinion and reacting to various Old English Sheepdog dog videos and TikToks, giving insights into dog behavior, training, and psychology.
Learn tips about how to train and care for Old English Sheepdogs with the information you'll learn in this video.
Renowned for its abundant double coat and distinctive bear-like gait, the Old English Sheepdog or OES also boasts a mellow and agreeable nature, making it an ideal companion.
Standing at an impressive 21 to 22 inches at the shoulder, the Old English Sheepdog is a robust and agile breed, perfect for exploration and energetic romps. Beneath that luxurious coat lies a muscular and compact drover, emphasizing its strength and sturdiness. Their eyes, often hidden beneath the hair, can be dark brown, blue, or even one of each, adding to their unique appearance.
Apart from their physical attributes, the OES is celebrated for its sharp intelligence and watchful nature, making them excellent watchdogs. However, they are equally renowned for their gentle and patient demeanor, especially with children. This breed's housedog qualities, combined with their courage and loud, ringing bark, make them both an affectionate family companion and a reliable protector. Regular exercise is a must for these agile workers, ensuring they maintain their nimbleness and overall well-being.

No Escalators! Long hair can and does get caught in the machinery leading to amputations!
We have our fifth Old English. We love them to pieces. Many rescue opportunities exist. New England Old English Sheepdog Rescue has rehomed hundreds of of them. But they need care. And they respond to the work you put in.

people who show sheepies use shoes to keep their feet clean when they take them out for a bathroom break if the weather is bad. They do not want to get the feet messed up before a show especially if they have already been groomed for the show

Sugar free peanut butters often have xylitol (also called birch sugar) in it which is extremely toxic to dogs. Be sure to check your ingredients lists!!!

Yes thank you! When I mentioned the "other additives" the Xylitol was what I was thinking about but I should have explicitly said it, thanks for the reminder for everyone. :)

Sheepies are the best but do your homework they are a lot of work and a huge expense with grooming and are huge dogs! Be well educated and prepared before you buy. Plus they are very strong.

If you are up for a little bit of mischief and chaos, and you have the ability to properly care for them (mentally, emotionally, physically), you should 1000% get one. They are so great! But, people do frequently find them to be a bit overwhelming.
Worth noting, you can shave them and their hair will grow right back. I keep mine shaved because she finds it more comfortable (and she's actually sooooooo pretty with short hair).
