Thank you for recording this moment in history
Your videos are a lasting record of the horse guards beating retreat by the household direction
In long go when the end of day where lowers with the union flag the last post is sounded and they remember in war and in the conflict as they're going down at the sun we will remember them
We are one of the very few countries that still keep this tradition to go to any barracks or any army establishment or naval or efforts that will lower the fact coming down of the sun beating retreat to retreat to count their rules and regroup to fight another day
Has a lot of things happening on horoscopes it is tradition and it has purpose may not so much now it has in history it also forms discipline thank you once for all your videos you do. During the week and many many months you do a fabulous job in making a permanent record of course guards life
      Thank you.

This was a lovely treat. I enjoyed it immensely. I think my favorite were the Scottish musicians. I also loved the formations the bands do while playing. It's impressive. The "80" was very cool. The DDay music with those videos choked me up. It brings a swell of pride for our soldiers (all who participated). And of course all the horses were stunning as ever. John, you did a marvelous job filming. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Wow, John what a polished video you have created. You have really performed a service to everyone involved in Beating the Retreat. So here are just a few of the things I enjoyed about this video. First the trumpeters on their white horses, beautiful and the sound resonated across the parade ground. It gets into your being and moves me so. The bagpipes, love them. They are so wild and untamed. The video they showed of World War II while playing the music made me cry and remember all over again why I admire the British nation. The maneuvers while marching and playing music. You could tell they had practiced to perfection. There is so much here, even my new favorite the Gunners. Remembering is important. Thank you for giving your beloved military a wider platform.

Thank you for this John. Much appreciated. Now THIS is how HorseGuards Parade was designed to be seen. And what a splendid backdrop it makes too! Just lovely....and SO impressive that the bands can execute such neat drill given that even moreso than the footsoldiers the bandsmen(and women) vary wildly in heights, and thus natural strides. The tallest would be over 6 foot in old money, and there are a sprinkling of musicians in there that are at LEAST a foot or more shorter than their fellows! To keep step whilst playing, particularly a brass instrument is impressive.
And i love the massed pipes. Its a unique sound, and i adore it.
Edit to add: Just read a comment regarding an hour at Horse guards and I was all, "nah, couldn't have been“ but I decided to check......almost an hour and a half!!! It felt like 10 minutes!! seriously, that went by SO fast, it's unbelievable!!! Thank you again John, for something that many of us will never be in a position to see live.🙏

What a treat to see the whole perfomance and not just snippets. Thank you so very much, John, for recording all of it and posting it for all of us, who are scattered around the world, to enjoy. I'm thrilled to see Juno, the mare, front and centre as the drum horse and not the two big lads, Atlas and Perseus. My father was a drummer in the Caledonian Pipe Band of Western Australia so seeing the massed pipes and drums reminds me of my childhood, spent at many Scottish gatherings/events here in Western Australia. Thanks again from me, in the tiny town of York, Western Australia, and no longer able to travel.

Thanks for another great vid John. Better than t bbc! Ahhhhh, memories o Kneller Hall! Used to be on Grounds Maintenace, heard snoppets of music coming out of t building. They invited t gardeners to their evening concert.
I miss seeing T Royal Artillary going through my neighbourhood to Wormwood Scrubs, t horses leaving 'Rose Fertiliser', behind!

Just watched this after I got up early. Absolutely loved it, thank you so much for filming and sharing it with us. I’ve only been watching your channel for a month or so but all your videos are so interesting with the amusing commentaries. It’s obvious how much respect you have for our military and I for one applaud you

Thank you so very much, my first Beating Retreat and it was wonderful, the music was perfect and the drills the band did were perfect. I really enjoyed it, just wish I was there to attend in person.

@@starvingartist2824 Once again, thank you 2824. I never noticed the reins thing but of course some control would be needed. Hands are otherwise occupied. These ;gentle giants' are usually very chill horses. My grandfather had Belgian draft horses, before tractors arrived, and they were wonderfully calm and sweet with a little kid, me.

@@starvingartist2824 LOL, exactly. Grandpa's last horse, before he bought a tractor, was Zona, a beautiful gray Belgian. When he'd return from his field work with her he'd put me up on her to ride back to the barn. Same thing, legs straight out her back was so broad. Loved Zona, hated that new tractor that replaced her. Memories. (Have picture of me sitting on a calf, loved his Guernsey cows, too.) Thank you for your mom memory.

Incorrect commentary, after Alfords "Great little army" and "By land and sea" they play the march "Namur" before whatever new march it was that was played. Oddly the march Namur is suspected to have actually been written by Alford (Ricketts) during his time at Kneller Hall and generously given to Bandmaster Richards, who was struggling to think up a composition for the compulsory march competition. As it happened Richards was awarded first place.

The Romans would have run in fear if they'd have seen that Radio Gaga section coming over the hills toward them! That was relentless. Fire, loud sounds, completely synchronized marching while playing. Worth every minute of anguish you experienced putting this up for us to watch. (yes, I enjoyed the more traditional sections, too, but this just sort of hit me)

Thank you, John, so much for filming all that you do. I am an ex-Brit in Australia for more than 50 years, but still love the British pomp, ceremonies & the Royal Family etc... you are a great avenue to keeping up with it all ❤
