I miss my hamster so much, he was an odd little guy had seasonal allergies, was a picky eater, and never chewed enough to wear down his teeth so we often visited the local vet to get allergy meds and to have his teeth trimmed. Also everyone at the local vet office knew him and often the vet would bring students into the room to show them how not all animals fit their species characteristics 100%.

This is cultural change. This all began because at one time in the past, there were so many dogs running around in Korea that they were a viable food source. However, this no longer makes sense. Dogs are no longer seen as food there and it is a welcome change.

I wish it were that simple, but to many Asians, dog meat, when got from torture is considered to be what would make men more manly. Those unfounded beliefs die hard, unfortunately.

    • @auChevalierRed

@UCY7z2UCQvwgsXsfJvNqaCmw , I did not say , Mathhew was totally wrong, but for having helped for years against that barbaric persisting habit, I can tell you that my statement stays true to reality. With better farming and economic growth there wasn't any need anymore for people to eat man's faithful companions anymore; and yet the tradition remained very strong and that dreadful festival is still celebrated in many asian countries. To kill for food is perhaps not great, but that's way worse, due to the way it done and the pleasure they take in doing it.
Have a look at Wuhan, and at how many Koreans are flocking to its festival to beat up dogs, preferably fluffy tiny pets which were stolen from their owners, as a form of added bonus. They go for it, because they believe that by taking the flesh away from a still living dog, their male attributes will give them sons instead of daughters.
During WWI, troops in Europe occasionally ate the already dead bodies of fellow soldiers and dogs, as well as rats, when supplies had not reached them for weeks. They did not kill the dogs, far less torture them and chop them alive, and they were certainly way hungrier than the Koreans were in the 80s.
The reason why, in spite of government efforts, this practice still goes on, is for it is supertition-related and not hunger-related,. Were it only hunger-related, we'd still be horrified, they'd chose dogs as food, but they 'd not be torturing these dogs in a way they do not even torture a rat prior to eating it.

I am Korean-American. But, my parents are Korean. During the war, many Koreans didn't have food so they had to eat dogs and whatever they could find. And it went on for about a decade because many Koreans who survived the war still had these beliefs that it is okay to eat dogs and many different kinds of animals. The situations that my great grandparents, grandparents were placed in during the war was horrendous. But now, most adults don't eat dogs, we rather think of them as inhumane. Dogs are not Korean cuisine, or even culturally acceptable. And no, Koreans did not eat dogs before the war.
But there are a lot of dog breeding factories around the world. Which is absolutely unacceptable.

@Long Qiu Hello, I hope that you can get a dog when you live home then, they make great friends or family members. I miss having a dog too, but my father is ill, so I came back to help him and I won't get a new dog until I am back to my own place again because my father doesn't like dogs. It's both lucky and sad that I did not have a dog (mine had died of old age a few months before) when I came back to look after my father, as I would have a faithful companion helping me through this, instead of missing having a dog at a very difficult time, but it is best not to have a dog if you live in a home where they are not wanted, as dogs are very sensitive to that fact.
Where do you live now and do you think your parents will let you have a dog soon?

The hypocrisy in this video is astonishing. Should dogs be treated like this? No. Is it appalling that dogs are bred into existence only to be killed and eaten? Yes. Does a human’s desire to eat dogs outweigh the fact we are enslaving and gorging on the flesh of a sentient being? No. Yet, how can these people be so against this and eat pork or drink milk? It’s insane. The fact we prioritise some animals and try and abolish the view that they are “food” whilst simultaneously torturing and murdering other animals for our own food is kinda disgusting. Pigs arguably suffer more as their intelligence has been proven again and again to be much higher than a dogs but yet we gas and stab them in the billions. Eat dogs AND pigs or none at all. The speciesism in this race is embarrassing, at least have some consistency if you’re going to chow down on murdered, decaying corpses.

Bondi it has two words when you say it, which is, bond when u bond with something and have a connection and eye which is your eye. So, when your eyes bond with your soulmates eyes you immediately know that’s your soulmate and that’s what happens many times when animals get healed after what happened to them, they go back to their owners they tell them just by looking into their owners eyes and show them that they are okay and shows the joy and love they once had.

Probably caught the vain in the nail, cutting animal nails is hard even on dog so you can imagine how hard it is to cut them on such a small animal like a hamster but the little bit of blood isn't going to hurt. She may want to change the cage to avoid the nails getting to that length again

I love the care for that little hammy! Making clear that that travel box was notbher full cage! Hamsters need A LOT of space!
I lost my little hammy Benny 2 weeks ago now. He was the last one I am planning to own for a while. He was such a brave little boy. He had health problems due to his age and finally he died to a seizure during his sleep.
I have owned hansters over the past 7 years. Not hearing little feet on the wheel next to me has been tough. I have my bunnies and they have been wonderful, trying to comfort me, but ppl don't realize that these creatures might be small, but their personalities are enormous. No hamster I've had has been the same. Murmel, my first Hamster loved climbing up on things. Mick was a grumpy old man. Máni was my little baby, I raised him after getting him from a terrible situation. Scruffy was as slow as a trutle and loved hanging out on my lap. Benny was a temperamentful little demon when he was young, but he became a very sweet, loving old man. In the playpen he'd run under my lap for a nap and sleep between my legs. He'd climb on my back and rip out my hair. He always came running when I called his name.
With a big enough cage, enough run time, good care, these little guys can be just as much of love bugs as any other pet.
But finding vets who know enough about them or care enough can be challenging. I am lucky to have one who loved Benny just as much as I did and refused to give up on him until the very end.

It's bad enough that pigs, cows, sheep and yes others like horses, not only suffer excruciating deaths, but that tender meat you pay any price for? Comes from some of the animals having their skulls crushed to hang in meat lockers to die slower to keep circulation going to break the meat down without Spoilage. Bon A Petit,Folks. Congrats. Now if only people treated other people the way they take in and pay for strays... Like homeless animals, it's hard to tell just by looking who is homeless. Humans trying for jobs clean up and dress their best when going for job interviews, but not having a verifiable mailing address is still a detriment. At least, here in the USA. I was homeless for years, but now am not. YET I was recently told I looked homeless because I was wearing a huge man's overcoat (I bought it for cheap at a thrift store). Never EVER was told that when I actually was homeless! Most did guess I was poor and struggling, but never guessed I slept in my car or in a tent in the woods. My family did what they could to help me, but they were struggling and didn't have much better than me.
Sadly, I did learn a LOT about fake "homeless" during that time. People who lived better lives than some of their donors. If I ever meet a fake "homeless" person in real life, I will take great joy in making them truly homeless, and maybe give them a few scars to remember to never lie like that again.

Those poor dogs!!! They are so cute. I don't understand how people could treat them like that. I would love to have one, maybe two. And Jack. He was obviously someone's pet who was dognapped. Probably Beagle and Jindo cross. I'm happy that he got a home with the people who owned the Basset Hound. I hope these despicable meat farms get closed down. Dogs are man's best friend. They need love and good care. (Jan Griffiths).

I don't want to sound anti-Korean dog saving (they do a good job), but I just wonder..........charity begins at home. Everywhere kill shelters are full of lost and abandon animals, would it not make sense to only engage in operations like this if you can proof to the world that you have empty shelters? Do you not contribute to the problem?

Just a quick note, not excusing the dog meat farms but its not really in the cities, especially big cities, in Korea that do this. Its the rural poorer areas. The people who can't afford your typical "meat" animals. The reason the dogs are tortured is because it is believed that it improves the quality of the meat. Also anyone under like 50 doesn't really eat dog meat lol its the older generations. As mentioned, even the government condemns this.

I’d be so scared to accidentally cut the hamsters toe off. I’d prob just use a nail file and slowly over time file them.
I’ve kept multiple hamsters over the years and never had that problem with them. But years back I put a rock in front of their wheel and under their water bottle, I heard that helps with nails.
