  • Dr. Edward Perry, board-certified neurosurgeon with fellowship-training in complex spine surgery, talks with KTVN 2 News Kristen Remington about advances in image guided spine surgery. Dr. Edward Perry has recently placed over 10,000 pedicle screws using an intraoperative computer tomography (CT) (O-arm) and image-guided stealth navigation system.
Stealth guided placement helps reduce the variables and allows surgeons to validate accuracy during and immediately following a surgical case. It helps reduce the need for revision spine surgeries and allows surgeons to perform technically superior surgeries. Studies1 have consistently shown that three-dimensional fluoroscopic image guidance systems demonstrate a significantly higher pedicle screw placement accuracy than conventional fluoroscopy (68.1% accuracy) or 2D fluoroscopic (84.3% accuracy) image guidance methods. Of the 10,000 pedicle screws placed by Dr. Perry, only 29 were adjusted after placement. This is a 99.7% accuracy rate.
