Well, I just went through and read all the comments and see that in one you answered the question I had asked. Sorry for asking something that you have already answered. I just love ALL of your work!! 💖 now I have to go find the video on the stabilizer.
Trying to stitch along with you....could you please show us how to stitch the half hexi in this project? my corners got a little thick on this piece. I own two of your three books and I am determined to follow along and use them in this project! Thanks a bunch!
No worries, I was watching Sonya Stepto who is also doing this project and she seemed to be having some challenges as well at this point. @@jenniferclouston7545
Thank you for this video. I am about to take up English paper piecing and came across your video by accident. I thoroughly enjoyed the content as I do not want to glue and you clearly explained how to tackle it. Great tips for the sewing up of the project .I do various types of hand embroidery but this will be my first small quilt project so your demonstration is greatly appreciated.
After watching your video, I’ve decided that I just make paper piecing harder than it really is. I do not paste my papers because I tried and I hated it but I also never basted through the papers. My question to you is once you remove the basting stitches can you still reuse the paper? I would imagine after a while you can’t because of all the holes in it but I was just curious whether or not you reuse your papers. Also all the EPP videos I watch use bottom line 60 weight thread. It is so thin, although strong but it’s hard to keep even in the smallest eye needle. I am so glad I have watched this video and I’m now going to do it your way. all of the people I’m watching have never done it for 40 years and experience is valuable. I am also starting to think outside the box and embroider on some of my hexi‘s. I usually do the embroidery prior to cutting the hexi out but now I’m thinking I’m going to make whatever it is I’m intending to make if it’s small enough like a pillow, and do the embroidery after I put the hexi’s together.
Hi, sorry for the late reply. I am still trying to figure out how this all works. Yes, I use my papers over and over again! I do not like the light weight thread - I personally think that it might cut the fabric over time. Xx
Lovely tips re measuring hexagons as well as stitching together! Definitely going to try this! I may well watch first though albeit itching to start now x
My passion is EPP although I’m quickly developing another with the slow stitching. I’ve done all types of patterns but really love hexigons! I look forward to following along with this project and definitely want to participate so I’ll be getting it prepared per your instructions! Thank you and missed you last week although I knew you had classes!! ❤️ Nancy
Thank you for all your instructions, I wish I could be at your class although I’m in the USA I’m so appreciate your videos and I love all your books . Look forward to seeing you again. 🪡🧵♥️
Hi, I have added two videos on the embroidery. I have not made the bag up as yet. My channel is a little different to others as I post as I feel, rather than as I should! It’s a simple channel with snippets of my stitching.😊😊😊😊
thanks for this very helpful video on english paper piecing jennifer. it will be very helpful to be able to do it right the first time. thanks for your very clear directions. linda from california
Love it Jennifer....had to have a little chuckle..I too am making a bag with large hexagons..I'm using 15 of them and quilting as I go..something I did over 20 years ago. So I guess I can make anothere 11 + 2 1/2 and join in....tfs. always a pleasure to watch...regards M
Thank you Jennifer - that was interesting and informative. I also cut my fabric with a bigger seam allowance and find it easier. I wasn't sure if you have ever tried something called Hexiform. They are in England I believe. I learned about them from a You Tuber I watch called Emma Jones. The hexie shapes they sell are made from a soft foam(?) like material that Emma leaves in her projects as it give it an almost quilted appearance. I have not tried it yet but I have to say it does look interesting. Thanks again for your suggestions.
This method is much better than the method I’ve been using. Thank you for a wonderful video, Jennifer! I may make this project along with you. I just picked up your crazy quilt book off of eBay. Can’t wait for it to arrive.
Hi Jennifer feeling excited about this project, thankyou, what could be better hexies and embroidery. ❤ I also like using a bigger seam, makes it a little easier. Have a lovely afternoon.
Good morning from the UK. Thank you so much for all your marvellous tutorials, such a wonderful way to start the day listening to you, the birds and the dogs. I found you from watching one of Corrine’s tutorials on how to make a snippet book and absolutely adore your style of embroidery. Having a birthday this month I have put both your ‘foolproof’ embroidery books on my wish list and now I can start on my Christmas wish list with your patchwork projects book - I’m actually looking forward to lots of cosy winter afternoon sewing this year. ❤
Thank you for this lovely tutorial. I wondered if you always add a stabilizer to your hexies that you embroider? Also, have you ever given the quilt as you go method a go? Thank you again!
Hi, I stabilize every piece of fabric that I embroider on. And yes, I have striped the quilt as you go method. My first book was based on that technique. ☺️ Regards Jenny C
Love the purse! Going to make one... or two? Great use for men's suits that aren't being worn any more. My question is: How do you get the paper out after you have basted the hexagon? It looks like you're stitching through the paper. ???
I baste through the paper. But the stitching is not through the paper when we sew them together. You simple remove the basting stitch and take out the paper. Sorry for the late reply! 🐦⬛🪡🐦⬛🪡
Looks like a fun project. Very new to sewing. I’m unsure when the basting stitches are removed and when paper is removed and ironing interfacing on? I’m sure the next video will show this but I was just wondering Great video sharing❤
You have inspired me to give EPP a go. I’m still in the process of gathering supplies but almost ready to begin. I do have a question. I’m assuming you remove your papers after giving the piece a “good pressing” and removing the basting then you add the stabilizer. Right? I would love to see more videos on the subject along with those on embroidery. Thank you for your excellent instructions.
Watching frm QLD Australia Luv ur tutorials I've been glueing my Hexagons think I'll do it old school way like you've been doin can I use the non woven stabiliser and Parlan in quilts aswell as I've started a 2 inch Hexagon quilt ?
Hi Jennifer I have a question about this Lexi project. I happen to be doing a Lexi quilt. Do I use the stabilizer over the whole backing of quilt after sewing them together? Also I wonder if you can tell the rest of the steps to making it…how you border etc..,
Hi Vickie If you are making a quilt you do not need to stabilize it - I only stabilize the hexagon projects that will be embroidered. If I remember I will chat about the steps of making a hexagon quilt. 🪡🐦⬛🪡🐦⬛
I have another question. What is the name of the 1st stableizer you showed us? I went to the store yesterday and wasnt sure what kind to get. Also you said you like a non iron stabilizer? I was a little confused there. Thanks so much. Now off I go to cover my 2" hexis😊
Do you use synthetic thread to piece the hexis? Another lady I watch does, but I was told when I first learned patching and piecing to use cotton thread with cotton fabrics😊, otherwise the synthetic thread would eventually cut the fabric as it is stronger. What say you?
Love your videos!! I think I will give thread basting a try! I love how portable and relaxing EPP is!!! Thank you!!!
It’s a pleasure - yea, so relaxing!

Hi Lisa,
Yes, you remove the papers and stabilize the whole piece of joined hexagons and then add the embroidery.

I use a cotton thread and I agree that a synthetic might cause problems!
