Best player in my class & I have ever seen in the 8th grade. Saw his SoCal all stars team just murder some poor utah team. & deangelo was up front of the 1-2-2 FC trapping press @ 6”9 the other two were 6”6 & 6”8 & faster/more athletic than any guard even on the poor other team. We won norcal that year (the irony being deangelo lil to our knowledge actually grew up in norcal (Stockton ca) until the 8th grade that year or the previous one I think. If he was on the previous SCA team I can’t even imagine him & Tyson chandler together which I think he did play w him on SCA. Talk about unfair & redic for everyone else. Even after nationals playing Steve Novak, seeing dee brown Carmelo etc.. at that time definitely deangelo was the best player imo in the class. Now in this game.. amare showed he was #1. He couldn’t be guarded in the post by deangelo or anyone for that matter. Deangelo was too undersized & amare was just too strong. Deangelo could shoot 3’s tho n full court press. If he really refined his game I think he had KD before KD written all over him cuz he could face up at like 6”10 & strong enough.. & that’s in the 8th grade. He did get paid & played in several countries so I’m happy for him. Not everyone can be in the nba you guys. Talent wise I think no doubt deangelo could have but no one wanted to take a chance on him I don’t think which was & still is kinna sad to me but given the 01 initial hs to pro busts & then the Leon smiths korleon young’s.. I mean I get it & then I don’t.

@philrich08 Torina Francis was my teamate and top 10 player nationally in 2002 from Tabor Academy, Mass. He was right behind Amare, Collins, and Jason Fraser. He was a six ten space eater with some athletic ability. Kinda like Kenneth Faried nowadays. Anyway, he went to Notre Dame where they did not develpo him and in the 2006 draft he wasnt a prospect anymore. He had a degree, and is doing fine nowadays in Germanys top team, Alba Berlin.

Troy J Wrong! I’ve played both high school AND college ball. I graduated in 07 with a bachelor’s degree in the IT field. I was an assistant coach on the high school level for 4 years and was offered a head coaching job but turned it because of my passion for IT. My main job I work for the federal government EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). have a beautiful wife, 2 kids and a nice house. What reason would I have to be bitter ? 🤔

Troy J I told you my career just to show you that I’m not bitter. I don’t need to be a millionaire or an NBA player to have a good life. God has blessed me with a great family, friends and a nice career. I’ve worked really hard to get where I am in life and I’m proud of it. Another thing I’m proud of is seeing young black men succeed that I’ve helped out through the years. Once again I have no reason to be bitter but believe whatever you want to believe kid.

Wiki/google articles on deangelo bro. Not everyone is cut out for college bro! lol. That’s why u see guys going hs to g league overtime elite overseas etc out of hs. There’s more options now days that would have benefited him. He still had a great pro carrier overseas. Nba gm’s should have gave him a shot it wasn’t cuz of a lack of talent

Nah bro. & I’m the biggest deangelo fan & played at a tourney at Compton jc after his SCA team. He was best player I saw & saw & played a handful of nba guys that 8th grade summer but he couldn’t guard amare on defense in post in this game cuz he was just too big & strong.. & brad buckman only other big on the west wasn’t skilled enough.. amare was the goat in this game & Felton & jj we’re running the breaks & dropping assists to melo & the bigs. The west got ran! lol. Deangelo showed his offensive skill/scoring set tho! 4 sho showed out & got his tho.
