      @@dano8736 Thanks for your question, Dan. Hope you're safe and well otherwise.
      Output depends on what the ultimate end goal/use/destination is, and how much space you have. If you're going to use this on gigs (in the future) and play at higher volume, then PA makes sense, if you have the space to get physically away from them. If you're recording, and volume and space are a concern, then studio monitors are a better choice to me. Now there is no right/wrong here. My comments are based on the way the question is posed. Contact me direct if there are other circumstances or questions.

    So I wonder, would using this with something like a tiny terror for home tube silent recording be better or equivalent than buying a revv d20, I dont know anyone who can vouch for quality or durability of revv but orange is proven and I believe this is what is in the revv amps.

    I am trying to understand this so you can tell I am rookie at this. So you are getting the sound of the Mesa amp and hearing different cabs and changing the mics position through the app but still hearing it through the mesa amp speakers correct? not through PA or monitors? thx

    • @BrettSmithDaniels
      @BrettSmithDaniels 3 роки тому

      Led it’s a load box, what that means is you plug the Mesa, or your amp of choice, into the box in order to plug it into your pa or monitors direct without blowing them up... the cab simulation is digital, but you’re hearing the real tube amp 😊

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  2 роки тому +1

      Hi and thanks for your message, Happy Thanksgiving.
      If you're using the Captor solely as a Loadbox, it makes no difference which version you get. Just match to the appropriate speaker out you want to use. If you're using it as an attenuator, match the version to your cabinet impedance since it's connected in series after the Captor.

    • @sweetwater

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  3 роки тому +4

      Hi, JW. The Captor X doesn't have an on/off switch on it. You can turn it off by unplugging the power, but I think their thought behind this was that you don't really want to turn it off. If it's acting as a load box for an amp, it would be risky to not have it on. If you turned your amp on without the load box on, it could damage your amp.

    It looks great and I wrote sweetwater. But I am trying understand why it is 500 bucks. When you can make attenuator so cheap at any ohm that you want. and a D I box don’t cost much. And a lot of amps have a dummy load with direct out.
    For recording at home The software vst and cab and mic and room sims seem like the only real benefit. am I missing something with all these high dollar attenuators and direct out boxes

    How does it sound when attenuating a guitar amp? Want a great attenuator for my 100W Marshall to use at home…..

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  2 роки тому

      Thanks for your message Brazos, hope you're well and safe.
      Attenuators and Load Boxes have different functions. If you want to use your cab and mic at a lower overall output, then the attenuator allows you you get the tone of the amp cranked but not as loud. The more extreme the attenuation, the less dynamic range you have and the tone will change. A Load Box takes the place of your speaker cab so you can use IRs (impulse responses) of cabs and mics via software while recording the head into your recording interface. YMMV, depends on you ears and desired end result.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 місяців тому

      Hey there, George! Great question. Yes, the outputs on the Captor X are “dual mono”, so you’re able to use them as stereo outputs, or have the 2 independent mono channels.

    Hello, would this also work the other way around? Meaning, can i also use this to make a 20 watt amp louder? For instance, can a 20 watt tube mini head get louder than before on live stages?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Рік тому +1

      Hi James, I’m glad you asked the question but am a bit confused by it. Attenuation reduces signals to give the player access to a tone and feel only achievable at a higher volume. There’s no option to amplify or boost the signal with the Two Notes device. In order to get “louder”, you need an additional amp or power amp to provide more power and to run more speakers. Contact me direct for more clarification so I can make sure we’re communicating clearly.

      @@arderemortem2091you would want the fryette power station. It's a reactive load box and tube power amplifier. They make two versions, one with a 50 watt power amp and one with a 100 watt power amp. You can either take a 120 watt amp and dial it down to bedroom volume or you can take a 5 watt amp and turn it up to 50/100 watts.

    Do i turn the captor x on first before turning the amp on?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 місяців тому

      Hey, 12Jsilva! Great question and thanks for your interest. The reactive load will work even when the Captor X isn’t connected to power, so as long as it’s connected to the amp output it’s safe to turn the amp on, however you of course won’t have any of the signal processing when it’s not connected to power.
      Hopefully this answers your question! Feel free to reach out if I can help with anything.

    • @MrClarkio
      @MrClarkio 3 роки тому +4

      It's not really an fx box though so I think that's ok. IRs, reverb, eq etc are all about getting your sound to sit right in a mix and that's what this box is trying to give you whilst keeping your tube amp sound at a volume which won't have your sound man moaning that your "too loud on stage". Delay is about effecting the sound to be something it wasn't originally. Besides if you were going to drop this amount of money on a delay you'd be looking at a strymon probably.

      How so? It puts a load on the output tranny so the amp should act no different than having your speaker connected. 8ohm of resistance is 8 ohms regardless of what's putting the load on, and since it's reactive it behave like a speaker.
