Hi guys! This video is slightly different from my usual content; it's a personal project about a topic that I'm (clearly) very passionate about. I will be getting back to the regular how-to style videos also soon, but you can expect a mix of projects like this in between as well, as I explore the scope of this channel :D
Congratulations for 100k
Which app did you used to edit rhea???
Awww this video so cuteee 😍
Honestly when you were speaking korean in one of your videos I slightly felt if you were from where I was and looks like yesssss😭😭😭😭
I'm from karnataka and when I heard you say that your language is regional I was like.... mine too..
Anyways I happy to hear this. Also gives me so much hope!!
I'm from mangalore🥺😭 I'm soo happy to see youu🎉
I'm Irish and can't speak Irish. I can relate to this. It's sad feeling disconnected from my ancestors. And It's difficult when your native language is almost extinct and there's no resources available.
Such a great video! Native languages are really so special. I’m bilingual, I was born in Brazil but came to Italy at a very young age. While I find both of my two main languages beautiful, I’ve been in love with English since a very young age. I realized that English, at that time, made me feel comfortable since I didn’t feel pressured to represent my two nationalities, which I didn’t feel 100% a part of. Just like you, I really love learning new languages. And like you, with time, I’ve started to appreciate my linguistic origins more and give them more attention and importance, to prevent losing such an important part of my identity.
It’s great to enjoy the journey we’re on, but we mustn’t forget where we started. Thank you for the reminder! Wishing you the best in your journey of rediscovering your precious linguistic roots!
Lovely video. In Zambia we have 72 languages and I cannot speak or understand any😕. I sometimes feel guilty for trying to learn Korean when I can't speak any of the languages in my country. I'd like to learn my mother tongue but no one in my house speaks it. Hopefully someday I can learn 🤞🏽
“The limits of my language mean the limits of my world.” - Ludwig Wittgenstein
There aren't a lot of people here in my country who learn Korean or Japanese (like me) so I had pretty much given up on learning. But then, I found out that even if I can't find someone here who can speak Korean or Japanese, who knows, I can travel one day to Japan or Korea (I really want to go there) and use it. Plus, I watch quite a lot of Korean content (especially variety shows) so even when there are no subtitles, I still can understand and enjoy it. Soooo that's how I continued studying it! Japanese was a little hard for me (the katakana ofc...), so I just "took a break" from studying it; bc maybe I can continue studying it one day, too.
Felt like i was watching a documentary, that’s how good this was 😂 appreciate this vid a lot, I haven’t had time to study much cause of work, but it’s still my goal to learn a foreign language in this life. You also made me think more about my own language, both my parents converse in native language and I talk to them in English 😂 might be a wake up call to learn my own language especially when my parents are getting older 😅
Keep up the good work ! 🙏
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS VIDEO OMGGGGGGG you and your mom are so funny 😭😭😭 AND the thing you did with the cars plssss that’s so creative Rhea!!
Awww....this was so heartwarming. I can speak 5 Indian languages+1(English) fluently. and I am so glad I can. It has enabled me to strike up conversations and form lifelong bonds with people from different parts of the country. Good luck with your mission to learn Konkani and Malayalam
tumhi karushaktay!
ningalkkathu cheyyaan kazhiyum!!
hwaiting!
My mother tongue is Bengali (since my parents are from Bangladesh), but since I've spent my whole life in Canada and America, I'm most fluent in English. I used to be much better at Bengali when I was younger then I am now.
To be honest, I kind of feel guilty for the fact that my Korean is much more fluent than my Bengali. I sometimes feel guilty for wanting to learn other languages.
It kinda teared me out when i heard the asammia boy speaking even tho im a bengali .. native language is really special ❤
This video is so precious. So my mother tongue is Hindi and technically my second language is Punjabi (although I can only understand it and not speak it) , my first language in school used to be English. And mostly my teachers would encourage us to speak in English at our homes too. Although, I see where they were coming from, I am glad I didn't follow through that advice because I would have definitely forgotten my mother tongue.
I get so disheartened when I see a lot of Indian parents only raising their kids to speak English and not learn their own mother tongues. They are taking away something really precious from them.
This video was so insightful Rhea, thank you for producing it. Love your content as always
After watching I feel I should write something. I'm impressed. So many issues I can relate. I was thinking if someone could've revealed this topic. I'm so glad I've come here. And the way you've shown it, realising filming and matching stories is so cinematic. I love it. Thanks to you, your mom and the people who participated for - I'm not afraid to say - this little masterpiece.
This video is so inpiratonal and genuine. It sheds a certain light to the hearts of language learners and speakers.
This gave a really intimate feel ❣️. I love how you included diverse people proudly speaking their own languages. And I found myself smiling thinking about Tamil 💓. I hope you can make more videos like this, i totally adore this.
PS: The Italian girl is such a mood 😂, the way she spoke about the nuances in languages that people might take offensively if they don't understand the language
I really liked the lovely conversation with your mom. It was so sweet 💗
Such a good film! Absolutely loved the bit with your mother. Great work, Rhea!
such a warm video, smiling through the entire video. Loved everything about it ❤️
this video is so heartwarming
very very lovely video. i am also very passionate about this subject, so i enjoyed every bit so much. it brought me much comfort... ♡
oh my god, such a masterpiece. I really can relate to you, since I have a familiar situation with languages in my life. I'm Ukraininan, but I was raised in Russian-speaking family. we had Ukrainian lessons at school, so I don't even remember a moment, when I understood that I actually can speak Ukrainian. however, I'm still not fluent, because society I was growing up in was speaking Russian (but I'm pretty sure, that they also knew Ukrainian). it all ended up me living in another country (Czechia), and I don't know Czech🥲
p.s.: I love how you involved people actually speaking these languages and also a conversation at the end about Konkani and Malayalam. so cute:)
I loved the video, rhea. very beautifully done and makes me appreciate my native language and the nuances it brings. I loved the last part that moment with your mom is so cute!!
im from inda and im trying to learn Korean too! seeing a person like you really motivated me xD :>
i have recently been realising how i love learning languages. it is just so beautiful to discover different cultures and ways of conversing through multiple languages. there are so many new things to learn. i wish to speak at least five languages fluently!
What a great video! As a person who loves languages and the sound of different ones, that video was straight up fantastic. I am German and many people in Germany hate their own language, because it sounds rough and has many edges in the way you are speaking. But to me and many others, it is still the main way to communicate with each other, so we need to stick to it. I love German, because you can express so many things in different words and combine them to new ones and everybody understands you. And i think that shapes me as a human, who tries to communicate with others, through english, german or korean. And just to think, that German or English are only one of few languages, that can express your thoughts and feelings, is insane. Big props for your video, i enjoyed it very much and it left me thinking. :)
Thank you so much for this video! I really like the questions you asked and it was very interesting to hear about your history with languages, I’ll be waiting for the next one!
OMG! This felt like watching a documentary! The content and editing is so wholesome.
I am a Konkani and I could understand every word that your Mother said even without looking at the subtitles. 🙈 And I agree with whatever she said.
I basically speak Konkani, Hindi, English and Marathi on a daily basis. I speak broken Kannada and Tulu as well. 😂
My Dad is a Malayali and Mom knows Tamil and Telugu also.
I am learning Spanish and Korean. I usually give up when I can't remember the words or can't get the perfect pronunciations. I wish I was as dedicated as you were while you were learning Korean. I wish I to be fluent in all the mentioned languages and learn some new ones too. I hope to become a polyglot someday. 🙆🏻♀️
Looking forward to more of your videos. ❤️
So wonderful to see your passion Rhea! All the best and look forward to seeing more such interesting content from you
This was such a lovely and beautiful video! It is clear to see that you put so much effort into making it and hearing everyone speak in their own languages felt very personal and emotional. Thank you so much for taking the time to create this and for sharing this with us
aaaa although the content differs from your usual uploads, this video was done rly well and i appreciate the message in it :) as a kid, i learned to speak through watching television so my first language(technically) was english. i only learned malay in primary school which delayed me being able to properly communicate with my mother's side of the family and up till now, i haven't rly picked up the cantonese nor kadazan that my grandmothers speak, though recently i've been making more effort to learn with their help. with that said, this was as relatable as it was heartwarming to watch ^^ your videos, this one now especially, motivates me on my language journey so thank you!! please keep making good content, i really adore this channel
This video was so heart warming. It made me so happy ☺️ Hope you had a great start to learning two of your native languages ❤️ Keep us updated about it once in a while !! Waiting for more Korean videos ✨
Also, congrats on 100K subs 🥳
Ah this speaks to me girl. I love language and have fascination with its influence on cultures and the anglicization of the world! You should share more of these wonderful thoughts! How's the learning going?😊
What a beautiful video. I have no words to explain how precious this video is to me. Not even in my mother tongue that is Spanish. In Mexico we have 68 indigenous languages apart from Spanish. Unfortunately I only speak Spanish among all of them. I know English because that's the second language we're taught at school and I know a bit of French. Also I'm learning Korean. But I would love to learn Maya, which is the native language of the region I'm from. You video is really beautiful.
What a beautiful video, and I loved the conversation with your mom 💓
This was such a nice video to watch I really like that type of content keep going!❤️
as a person who loves languages too, I am very inspired by your content. This is beautiful❤
Aaaw i loved this video it was very well put together! loved the imagery, especially yours and your other's hands! very sweet!
i think about my native language a lot, i am Hungarian and i love the language but sometimes i feel a bit isolated from everyone, because it's just too different, especially from everyone around us in Europe.
Anyway, it was very nice to learn about languages i haven't heard about until now in this video! Good luck on your new journey i'm sure it's gonna be a lot of fun!!
Malayali here 🙋🏽♀️congrats on 100k
This is such a beautiful video. Lovely topic, calming videography, and wide range of people and their languages and experiences. So well done. You could totally make a whole documentary. 수고하셔습니다 😊
my mothers side of my family is honduran and i really wish i could speak spanish, also so i can speak to the kids in my school that don’t know english💕
What a beautiful video! So encouraging to learn foreing languages!👏👏👏
I really liked this video :) And it makes me think of myself also of having my native tongue next to my other as English and having my parents using it but having myself there in the place of understanding but not reallyknowing everything
Commenting for the algorithm. Go make that bag girl 💪🏻 💰
Aww this is beautiful 😍💜 Love from Indonesia💝
I feel soooo bad for not being able to speak my native language, Fante 🇬🇭 I was born in Canada and used to speak it from a young age, but now I completely forgot... I can only speak English 😭
Thank you so much for making this video. I feel like this is the kind of video that wouldn't get as many views because the topic is under appreciated, so I really am glad you put your time and effort into making this video for us!!! This topic is SO important and UA-camrs don't talk about it enough.
I feel like I can relate so much with your story. My name is Gabriela and I'm Mexican-American. My first language is Spanish but as I went to school I forgot a lot, and English became my dominant language. Similar to you, I've had an abiding interest in many different languages. I first dabbled in Modern Greek, then Hebrew, then Moroccan Arabic, and now I'm dabbling in Telugu...But as for my mother tongue, Spanish, I really didn't put an effort to speak it during my high school years.
This changed when I went to college (I'm a sophomore now) but I became a lot more interested in my mother tongue Spanish and in my own culture, more than the foreign languages I was trying to learn. Now I feel like I've awakened to the value of my Mexican culture and want to be more connected to Spanish than any other language. So it really warms my heart to see the effort you are putting into learning your mother tongue Konkani and Malayalam!! ❤
I've been watching you for quite a while, haha. In fact, you were a huge inspiration for my channel "Teach Me Telugu." Before I made my channel, I saw your videos and I knew I wanted my videos to be like yours, because everything was so on point-- your speaking, your graphics, your set up, your lighting, your entire aesthetic. 😂 Like I can tell you put so much effort in your videos, I see you girl!
However, once I ended up making my channel, I realized it wouldn't get any views because people aren't really that interested in watching videos about the Telugu language. So that's why my next video is gonna be about RRR so that they click the video and then they end up learning about accessibility for the Telugu language 😂
I saw in your comment that you were trying to explore the scope of your channel. I think this is so cool that you are taking time to experiment. I wish you the best in your language learning endeavors and look forward to more of your videos soon. Just know that you have an avid supporter here and a long-time subscriber. God bless and good luck!!!
Haha yeah!! It’s so hard to find a balance between making content that we like and making content that will do well with the algorithm, but it’s something we have to deal with somehow i guess
Good luck with your channel!! A few of my close friends speak Telugu but I’ve only managed to pick up three or four words :c
Konkani sounds so similar to marathi which is my first language!! Like the word "your" in both languages is so similar also the word "house/home". Its just very cool because i didnt know anything about konkani as a language and hearing your mother talk about it is very interesting :)
Yupp! Im pretty sure the Konkani spoken is Goa even uses the Marathi script,(although the Konkani my family speaks uses the Kannada script hehe), the Konkan coast and Maharashtra are pretty close regions so makes sense^^
This is really beautiful ✨
hi uh i can speak tamil and english ..tamil was hard at first.. but now i can communicate with my parents .. and shout at my brother in tamil lmao.. your so inspiring and i want tho learn korean myself but i am so busy with school.. its hard..
