Penelope testing Ody with that question about the bed was great. Just like Ody tested the siren to expose her as fake. It shows they're truly soulmates, so clever and loyal! 💖
I think that's part of it, but my interpretation is that she's also reassuring him. By saying 'only her husband' would know that information, and because he proved he did, she's affirming that he is, in fact, her husband. Regardless of what he's done, that fact doesn't change, he is still her husband.
@@makod8862 Yes, it was definitely both. She was testing him for his identity (gods and monsters can shapeshift in Greek myths so it's always good to double-check), and with the intention of reassuring him if he really WAS Odysseus. Smart woman.
I've always enjoyed that scene in the original tale and I hoped that Epic would keep it, though the original story attributes much of Penelope's cleverness with the challenge and the questioning to Athena, I like that Penelope is a just as clever as her husband here, just in a softer way.
If I'm reading the scene right, Odysseus probably strung the bow and shot through the 12 axes winning the challenge while everyone was singing "Hold Them Down", his winning arrow is probably what kills Antinous.
19:02 Fun fact; The song, "Odysseus" is titled that way because it is referring to Odysseus as the monster. Like the song, "Scylla" of the thunder saga. The title referring of the monster of the particular song!
I realized that the song has a lot of parallels to the song Polyphemus. From the music to the chorus going "O-dy-sse-us" just like how it went "Po-ly-phe-mus" in his song It is also Odysseus coming back home to find a group of people in his home that's been plotting to hurt his family, just like how Polyphemus came to his cave to find Odysseus's men plotting to kill his sheep and having already killed one. He gets offered peace and is asked to spare the men, yet he refuses, just like Polyphemus. I suppose we can say that this time Odysseus himself is in the place of Cyclops. idek if thats intentional I just realized that while listening to Odysseus for the first time but knowing Jorge it probably is tbh And obv the Scylla reference, "Keep your head down, he's aiming for the torches!" makes one remember of the way Scylla spoke to him, "We are the same, you and I" Anyways yes I love the song and I2m yapping I'm sorrysgdhhjsj
19:04 fun fact what Tiresias ment by “I see your palace covered in red” he ment about Odysseus killing the suitors and “I see your wife with a man who is haunting a man with a trail of bodies” he ment Odysseus because he saw him killing all the suitors
2:36 Jorge said that he plans to create mini musicals, that connects to epic, and he also plans to do the illiad, but that probably has to wait a few years
17:34 That my friend is the sound of Antinous getting shot in the throat, and no they were just plotting to do it they couldn't do anything. 21:20 the chanting of the names: Polyphemus 🤝Odysseus aiming for the torches Scylla 🤝 Odysseus 'We are the same you and I' Ody is like 'how dare u quote my bestie now you are gonna die'
They were plotting, but they also very well could have done what they said they were going to do. They actually go a bit further in the original story and it's only because Athena warns Telemachus that he avoids them killing him when he returns to Ithaca. The kingdom has been weakened by Odysseus' absence.
A really cool detail about “Odysseus”. In Survive, we hear a chorus sing _”POL-EE-PHEE-MUSS”_ while in Odysseus we hear _”OO-DY-SEE-USS”_ in nearly the same chorus and rhythm.
And the song was first called "King" but was then changed to "Odysseus". I think that's to make him look like the final monster like Scylla and Charybdis who had their name as the song titles
It’s so good too because both Polyphemus and Scylla both are monsters with their names in the title. Now, our monster has his name in the title too. And I LOVE IT
I love that the monster, what Odysseus was afraid of her seeing, rises when Penelope asks him to move the bed, but she _meets him on that level_ screaming how he’s her husband and that she’ll fall in love with him multiple times My heart, guys _My heart_
Ody wasn't actually super strong. He was clever enough to know that the bow would need to be strung using a special technique or tool, rather than relying on pure strength alone.
Didnt know this now i do, i probably will check it out, i say probably since i might forget it but meh, THE ITHACA SAGA IS A BOP, i love it, "Odysseus" was a hell of a song
10:13 It was his mother who was singing the waiting! It was such a nice addition to Penelope's song because it's like Jorge is saying that every loved ones of Ody is waiting for him
20:33 They already knew, because not only was Odysseus able to string the bow (Penelope's challenge) in front of them. He also said the statement after he killed someone, so they already knew
Cw // plot for hold them down and Odysseus. Spoiler warning in case any of y'all are waiting for official animatics. Odysseus was using the bow from the challenge to kill all of the suitors and take out the torches. None of them could string the bow because of the sheer strength that was needed to string it, plus it strings in a different way compared to normal bows so nobody but Odysseus could do it. Odysseus hid their weapons and went to the room and overheard them plotting during hold them down. He quickly strung the bow and shoot Antinous through the throat if I remember right, that's why he was gurgling at the end of hold them down there. Since he strung the bow, and did it so quickly they knew he had to be Odysseus, hence why they (or at least the ensemble) were all going "o~dy~sse~us~" through the next song which I find interesting because the crew was going "po~ly~phe~mus" during Survive in the cyclops saga. There's also him going for the torches like Scylla which is very interesting. "Monster" Odysseus has elements of all of the main opponents he faced prior. Another layer of horror added to hold them down was that in the source at least, some of the suitors were the sons of Odysseus' men. Imagine dying painfully and then 4-5 years later your son is trying to get with your king/captain's wife, who is also your queen. Crazy stuff.
@_Slow__ yeahhhhhh people in the epic fandom like to believe that the suitors were at Ithaca for the full 20 years which isn't true, and doesn't really make sense. They started going there after 16-17 years and by then the crew's sons were old enough to try to snag Penelope too so they joined. People like to assume that Homer used it as a way to say what happens when boys are fatherless and don't have proper father figures to guide them. Some of the suitors were also men who fought alongside Odysseus in the Trojan war I believe too. After the war ended they went back to their homelands and then after some years were like "uh have any of you heard from the king of Ithaca? No? I'm gonna try to marry his wife and claim power there, it will be easy." So they went and never left. There's also the assumption that all of the suitors were old men but that's not true. Antinous was supposedly 17-18 at the time of his death (not a crew members son bye he's from a different place) younger than Telemachus even, some even theorize that he was as young as 13-14 based on what his statues look like but I don't believe that, I think he's 17-18. Young man for sure, not middle aged like some epic fans think.
@ApartDragonFruit oh yeah, no, that makes sense. It'd be a major "fuck you." Sign to immediately go for the man's wife. Not that they actually gave a fuck/j
In Odysseus when he kills them all if you listen close you can hear the sound of a bow and arrows, that’s how he killed them all, Mf pulled out the hanzo “storm” arrow
Hold them down is such a good song. Aryon has such an amazing voice, and the vocals and harmonies are so good. It’s such a good villain song and oh my gosh I cang stop thinking about it
I like how ody says all the things he's done. There could be so many justifications, or reasons, or context behind his actions, but at the end of the day, he did those things, and no amount of reason or justification could change what he's done. Its like, let's say someone tries to kill you, you accidentally kill them while defending yourself. Sure there's a reason why you killed the attacker, but at the end of the day, objectively, you killed someone.
the brilliance of her plan is that this bow isn't even particularly hard to draw except that none of the Suitors know the trick and she knows they don't know... and even if they did it would buy more time than it seems. oh it has a high draw weight but nothing any experienced archer would have any trouble drawing... the key though is that in order to string it at all much less draw it. you have to know how to treat the wood. and it is a very unique bow. you can't overpower it. you can't claim its power as your own without caring for it. gently lacquering it and treating it properly with the proper oils. applying more power is more likely to shatter it. spreading deadly splinters that kills the fool who tried or else do nothing at all to bend it. depending on how far they got before they got impatient. with how long it has been since the bows master has drawn it... they would have needed to slowly treat and flex it for days for a proper full power draw even if they could likely have strung it much sooner. Then they must pull of a near impossible shot that agian relies on skill and handling far more than power. Firing through 12 Axes cleanly (these axes have a hole in them for the arrow) that Odysseus chose of his own volition to train for months to learn and convinced Athena herself to aid him.
and the follow up song barely brushes on the fact that they have no idea what to do but I will separate out the rest of my thoughts on this challenge here. The bow in many ways is an analogy for her. by trying to claim her by force they are at best leaving her unbowed after 20 years. and at worst making her deadly and dangerous to each and every one of them. they may destory her but she will destroy them in turn if they "Hold her down while her gate is open Hold her down while I get a taste Hold her down while we share her spoils I will not let any part go to waste" they will all shortly die of poison... and a few might well get stabbed by a knife she has always carried for the last 20 years. dying in the very act of trying to claim her.... and she is more than willing to consume the poisen herself at a grand feast for the new king... the songs don't go into this... but yeah... the only way to have Penelope as your queen is to treat her right and well. to know her intimately and convince her to bend to your will... only then will her power be added to your own and will you be able to achive things no other king could dream of. the Odessey makes it clear that she is every bit her husbands match and equal. and that both of them experienced trials and monsters... and both are willing to sacrifice everyting to bring those monsters down. so long as they get to be together again... and should that prove impossible. those who robbed them will suffer and parish at thier hands. [2:37 AM]
So.. is it just me? Can anyone else hear Jorge in the ensemble of "Hold them Down" ?? Like, if you read the Odyssey, you know Ody is already there when the challenge is arranged... And I swear, I can hear Ody sing in certain parts of the ensemble... the first two "here and now" and then the next verse "cut him down" twice... but he isn't in the ensemble when they speak of the challenge or "where is he, where is the man who can string this bow" nor does he appear when Antinous speaks of the crown... but returns when Antinous talks about SA'ing Penelope "Hold her down" then returns again "here and now there's a chance for action, here and now we can take control, here and now burn it down to ashes" and during the final chorus of "hold him down" before we all have our vengeful little hearts fill with glee as Antinous is slain.....
I definitely heard his voice immediately! I was like, "Ha! Jorge I know your voice a little too well now, I could pick it up in any harmony. " 😂 I didn't think of that being the reason, though. That kinda sent a shiver down my spine. I won't lie 😭. Was low-key already a little terrified of Odysseus by the end of "Odysseus", but now even more so!
Oooo, you might not know but Penelope was giving the Suitors an impossible challenge. Only Odysseus can string that bow, it’s magic and SUPER strong. And if they can’t string the bow then they can’t shoot an arrow through the axes. 😉
The thing about the draw strength I believe is correct though, it's not completely impossible but the suitors are not even remotely as strong as Odysseus so it would be almost impossible.
@dragansnyder2786 its not beyond any skilled archer of the day. the real challenge is that it hasn't been properly maintained. and it would take a long time to get it ready again for the kind of shot she requires. days. more power won't help. improperly treated it will shatter into deadly splinters and kill the one who tried to bend it by force alone. the suitors do not know this. or know this kind of bow however. indeed in its present state even just to string it you must be softer and more delicate with it than you would if it had been well maintained. THAT is the trick. of course. Ody knows this bow intimately... and it is designed to fire across battlefields and at full power could likely strike down anyone on the island from the palace... (its a small island and a very powerful bow) but for short range work? like the hallways of his palace... even a fairly weak and gentle draw (by the standards of a man who has trained a decade or more with warbows) will be enough for that kind of hunting. he by no means needs to apply all his power to pull it all the way back. the shot she demanded would have been impossible for days. the shot he requires he can perform all night.
Shit, y’all are right! Sorry! I thought that Apollo had done something to the bow when it was passed to Iphitos, then to Odysseus. But yah, it’s just the technique that only Odysseus knows at the time. Thanks for the correction!
11:12 I totally get what your saying, it’s like when your mom or grandma song you a lullaby as a child, it feels so gentle, attentive, soothing, understanding, loving and to me it feels so safe. It’s not something that has a real word for it and it’s so rare, I’ve felt it from like one other singer before, it’s the perfect voice for Penelope. Also I’m not sure if you’ve seen it or not but she auditioned for calypso but jay realized she’s the perfect Penelope and the short/tiktok is hilarious but also so cool to me and because of that short I’ve been insanely hyped for so long to hear Penelope.
He heard what they said because from my memory in the original story he was disguised as an old man and was able to string his bow. So yeah he heard all of that. I think when he did the arrow trick he changed back to himself but older.
15:01 this is just talking about the early books(chapters) of the odyssey where telemachus is touring around sparta and another country (cant remember the name) talking to Menelaus and Nestor who were central characters of the iliad and allies of odysseus, asking about where they last saw him
I love how in Odysseus ( I think I’m not sure ) one of the suitors try to convince ody to spare him by saying “let’s have open arms instead “because it creates it creates the thought that he is unknowingly disrespecting Polites (best MORTAL boy) and that led to ody killing him in such a brutal way
I'm still disappointed Ody didn't say "Well that was my journey. I got home, saved my son, killed all the bad guys and got my girl back. Thanks for listening to my story"
The fact that bro put a switch in his bow. Like it fr sound like a Glock 19 with a switch on it. Bro is scary. But yeah “hold them down” and “Odysseus” are my favorite songs.
That's a fun little thing about hold them down, I swear the suitors reacted the same way to antinuous' plans for Penelope as you did, that chorus does not sound like they really want to go along with it, it sounds like they're terrified of him and they just want him to shut up about it so they're going along with it.
He also kind of tells on himself when he's describing the aftermath of murdering Telemachus. "When the crown wonders where the prince is, only the ocean and I will know." Now, he COULD mean that he alone will be the one disposing of the body, but, well, he's already murdered one person in cold blood, and at the end of the day, Penelope can hardly take 108 new husbands. They're all competing for her hand, and the moment one of them wins her hand, the rest of them are threats.
in teh book, oddy was there when the challenge was set! he was disgusted as a old begger! the suitors had no clue who he was at all! so he was waiting for the time to strike preparing. best bbit is I doubt anyone would challenge Penelope with her being a spartan princess.
I noticed someone pointed out that you can very faintly hear Jorge in “Hold Them Down” as a part of the ensemble of suitors. In the odyssey, this part of the story has Odysseus in disguise as a beggar man, observing the state of his palace while he is unrecognizable. Most of the men around have not seen Odysseus in their lifetimes or have not seen him in 20 years, so it was reasonable he would not be recognized. It’s such a subtle detail but I really hope Jorge does a TikTok about it, confirming it was him apart of the ensemble. Little info dump because the odyssey and Greek mythos was my special interest in school: Odysseus actually saw his loyal hunting dog Argos when he’d arrived in Ithaca, but being in disguise, he was unable to greet his loyal dog. The dog was old and sickly, being abused during Odysseus’ absence, and the presence of the suitors left poor Argos kicked aside like a mangy mutt. The dog did not expose Odysseus, simply stays and allows himself to pass, knowing Odysseus has returned home and he is relieved of duty, being left to protect the family when the king left. If I’m not mistaken, Odysseus was actually disguised by Athena when he washed up on shore, so he could see for himself what’s up with the suitors. Telemachus and Odysseus had their reunion on the beach where Odysseus washed up. Odysseus’ bow has a pull strength of 500 pounds, it was a specially crafted bow that was strung differently than typical bows, so combining the pull strength with the special craftsmanship of the weapon, it wasn’t possible to be strung by ANYONE except for Odysseus. The challenge was impossible but the suitors were desperate and allowed themselves to get played into attempting such a feat, Penelope knew what she was doing, her husband was the only person who could do it, she was holding out hope that her husband would be there to step in and fix the problems. In one iteration of the odyssey, Odysseus actually fights the suitors completely naked, being chased around by Telemachus and a servant with clothes which he keeps refusing until every suitor is dead, only then does he allow himself to be clothed. Penelope had to test Odysseus because of his appearance, to ensure it was actually him in front of her and not an imposter like Zeus, who is known to shapeshift and trick women into sleeping with him. She also never asked him to move the bed, she had a servant move it just slightly off and he noticed so she knew it was him.
Been watching since before troy saga, a while before actually. Been through a lot since then. Lost family members that would've loved this and immediately after losing them listened to epic, it helped me through a lot. Me and my brother don't bond over a lot, we don't share interests but we love epic the musical, every release date for a saga has been exciting for me and him to talk, went through my parents divorce with this and that was hard. Epic has always been here for me, sad to see this parts over, honestly haven't stopped crying since the watch party, but it was worth it. Can't wait for the rest! Thank you Jorge Rivera Herans, for sharing this experience, this journey, your Odyssey.
I feel like your feelings on Hold Them Down is how everyone feels. We don’t want to like the song because it’s super dark, but it’s so good!! Also, I noticed that in Odysseus, the choir in the background is singing his name, like they did in Survive when they were singing Polyphemus.
A lot of the people making connections between the Monsters Ody has faced and Odysseus himself are missing one of my favorite connections. In "Odysseus", the rapid shooting of arrows is a direct mirror of Polyphemus killing his men with a club in "Survive".
8:28 Well Ody being like 1\4 god make it he’s so powerful only he can string the bow and even if someone manages to string the bow the archery challenge shooting through the loops of 12 axes handles perfectly is also difficult
Incase you don’t remember either, in the song “Odysseus” there’s a choir in the background that sing “OODY--SEEEEE-UUUS” during it, which is also the same words and notes you hear at the end of the song “no longer you” where the background vocals sing future events or songs. I love the way Jorge reuses different motifs and vocal melodies or like brings them back again. 26:21
Based on what i read, The bow that Penelope used in the challenge is Owned by Ody and is enchanted (??) or something making it impossible to be strung, and only Ody can do it. 🤔
@@Politesbrokenglasses here's an extra fun fact for you about the bow 😂 the bow originally belonged to Hercules so Ody pretty much has Herculean level strength
Ι cried at the song with Telemachus, especially the line "my son I'm finally home" broke me💔❤️🩹❤️and then the last one of course 😭and the reference to I'm just a man😢 And Antinous voice 🔥🔥 As a Greek I'm so proud of how they portrayed Odysseus' story ❤❤
The challenge is right after six hundred strike! You can hear her say «But I don’t know how much longer I’ll last since we saw that storm» the storm being Odysseus opening the wind bag and torturing Poseidon. She understands this and then begins the challenge that only Ody can do
I am still waiting for the livestream but since you're reacting to this already, I will watch your reaction!! FR with the visual learner though. Like, it's hard to comprehend what's going on unless I see it. 🙈
Im sad that this journey has ended. But I'm happy for the end of Odys journey. Id love to see u watching the live and probably the fan animatics when they get posted as well ? Amazing react btw
One good bit of The Challenge is that Penelope was almost certainly strong enough to throw all of the suitors out herself. She was bound by divine laws of hospitality and the fact that these men were suitors, meaning she had to provide for their every need while she picks a new husband because a woman could not rule alone. So this powerful woman walked out in front of a throng of angry men and said, "If you aren't strong enough to string this bow and draw it, go away. If you aren't skilled enough to land this shot, get lost, cause you can't handle me."
What a beautifully amazing project. I don't think I'll ever experience any other projects the same way. I remember first hearing the snippet of Just a Man and Done For. Seeing how far we've come, through Troy, through the cyclops, thru storms and witches and gods and friends and enemies, what an amazing musical.
The suitors can't draw the bow thats why Penelope picked it as a challenge cause she knows, also the waiting part used to also be sung by Odys's mother as they wait for Ody to comeback. And the reason Antinous has information was because of the maids that was telling the suitors information the maids also told the suitors that Penelope unthread her shroud every night to redo it every single day as this was also one of her tactics to buy time, when the suitors knows about this Penelope had no choice but to have the suitor do the challenge to also buy time, Ody was already in the castle during The Challenge song and he was watching everyone to know who he should kill, Odysseus was also known for the hanging of the maids, in which he hangs the traitorous maids. I hope this makes sense lol, I was just going off what I remember
7:26 Immediately after Vengeance,I think. When the snippets came out, I thought the “Storm” she was talking about was the storm from Ocean Saga when Eurylochus opened the bag, but apparently now we know that the storm she's talking about is the one from Vengeance Saga 20:52: depending on how you interpret it, there's going to be 3 headcanons for me: 1. Iliad Headcanon: Anyone who was left behind in Ithaca was either too old to fight in the Trojan war and therefore probably dead by this timeline, of too young, but now old enough to be a suitor or a warrior. Guards aren't exactly in on the suitors' plans, but they're basically Stormtroopers 2. Xenia Headcanon: Guards are legally not allowed to hurt guests because there's a slim chance the guests are disguised as gods, so no matter how rude they are, they're legally not allowed to inflict damage unless they're the head of household (in this case the real King) 3. My headcanon: when the guards recognized their King, they stood down, and let him do his business. Besides, this IS his Kingdom, he's basically a celebrity with tons of stories, which is why the source material emphasized on how he was disguised magically so no one recognized him. Call it a day off, you know?
The way I imagine the the end of Hold them Down is that when Antonius it killed by Odysseus, Ody is shooting him in the back with his old bow he just stringed, and the same shot also passed through the 12 aces, simultaneously winning the challenge and beginning the slaughter.
I just realized that the choir singing "Odysseus" in Odysseus is reprising the choir at the end of "No Longer You" .... when all he hears are screams. Good callback to the Underworld saga. 26:20-26:41 ish
Fucking soulmates!!! I was fighting tears through the last song holy fuck!!! Jorge and everyone involved in this amazing and EPIC MUSICAL did such a fucking awesome job!!!
I want it to be a show too! He could add the cut songs back to it, and really expand on the story. I agree that every saga should be a season, he could possibly have 1 or 2 songs per episode, and it would give us time to really bond with characters like Polites, spend more time on Circe's island (he was there a year right?)... I really feel like a show would add more to experience vs a movie
When Odysseus recounts the past 20 years to Penelope, there's a brief Circe (?) and Calypso motif there. Meaning that he did tell Penelope what happened with those two, and Penelope is still forgiving because I mean TWENTY YEARS T_T Ody-Penelope are end game for sure

In the Odyssey Antinous is the first to die with a arrow to the throat you can hear it at the end he’s like choking
that would be so fitting and hilarious
This is exactly what was portrayed in the live stream animatic
19:02 Fun fact; The song, "Odysseus" is titled that way because it is referring to Odysseus as the monster. Like the song, "Scylla" of the thunder saga. The title referring of the monster of the particular song!
"Polyphemus", "Scylla", "Charybdis" and "Odysseus"...
The Monsters of EPIC
I realized that the song has a lot of parallels to the song Polyphemus.
From the music to the chorus going "O-dy-sse-us" just like how it went "Po-ly-phe-mus" in his song
It is also Odysseus coming back home to find a group of people in his home that's been plotting to hurt his family, just like how Polyphemus came to his cave to find Odysseus's men plotting to kill his sheep and having already killed one.
He gets offered peace and is asked to spare the men, yet he refuses, just like Polyphemus.
I suppose we can say that this time Odysseus himself is in the place of Cyclops. idek if thats intentional I just realized that while listening to Odysseus for the first time but knowing Jorge it probably is tbh
And obv the Scylla reference, "Keep your head down, he's aiming for the torches!" makes one remember of the way Scylla spoke to him, "We are the same, you and I"

It was really, really obvious all the way back in underworld saga
2:36 Jorge said that he plans to create mini musicals, that connects to epic, and he also plans to do the illiad, but that probably has to wait a few years
The trojan war has great moments so im excited to see it
17:34 That my friend is the sound of Antinous getting shot in the throat, and no they were just plotting to do it they couldn't do anything.
21:20 the chanting of the names: Polyphemus 🤝Odysseus
aiming for the torches Scylla 🤝 Odysseus 'We are the same you and I'
Ody is like 'how dare u quote my bestie now you are gonna die'
And I LOVE IT
Also its said in the greek name of Ody: Oo - dyy - se - aas (Οδυσσέας)
I love that the monster, what Odysseus was afraid of her seeing, rises when Penelope asks him to move the bed, but she _meets him on that level_ screaming how he’s her husband and that she’ll fall in love with him multiple times
My heart, guys
_My heart_
If I remember correctly its a bow with a draw strength of 500 pounds, Ody strong af so most of those suitors stood no chance
it also required a certain technique to string it, if I'm not wrong it was a recurved Thracian bow, and it was foreign to Myceneans
That’s the theory classists have.
Also depending on your picking of odys story he's part god in his bloodline
Ody wasn't actually super strong. He was clever enough to know that the bow would need to be strung using a special technique or tool, rather than relying on pure strength alone.
@@antisocial_dogmomWarrior of the mind indeed
Fun fact, Jorge actually made another musical in college, called “My heart says go”, I really like it and you should check it out!
Didnt know this now i do, i probably will check it out, i say probably since i might forget it but meh, THE ITHACA SAGA IS A BOP, i love it, "Odysseus" was a hell of a song
10:13 It was his mother who was singing the waiting! It was such a nice addition to Penelope's song because it's like Jorge is saying that every loved ones of Ody is waiting for him
I think he's saying like Odys mother Penelope is willing to wait for him til she dies. 🥺😭 I'd prefer it over marrying a suitor too. 😅😅
“Let’s have open arms instead-“
YOU DARE USE HIS WORDS AGAINST ODYSEEUS?!?!?
THE LAST PART, HELLO???
I think the guy who said open arms in the third song is Eurylochus's son but im not sure.
@@riduanaqil1452would be even more fricked up if true given that Eurylochus was married to Odysseus' sister, and thus was Ody's nephew.
In Odysseus when he kills them all if you listen close you can hear the sound of a bow and arrows, that’s how he killed them all, Mf pulled out the hanzo “storm” arrow
It’s his own death sounds! Like the thumps of Polyphemus, the roars of Scylla, and now the bowstring of Odysseus
@ it was in different beast when he shot the siren, and in Polyphemus when he shot the sheep, mans is going off
*To the beat of Storm*
Suitors! Brace for a storm!
Hold them down is such a good song. Aryon has such an amazing voice, and the vocals and harmonies are so good. It’s such a good villain song and oh my gosh I cang stop thinking about it
Fun fact in hold them down you actually hear Ody singing silently and as it goes on it is more recognizable, he was in fact there.
The way I stuck to this video like a leech because I've been foaming at the mouth waiting for the first reaction videos

@@KiyaScott-e7r dont even know if there's any channel left that made an epic reaction that I didn't watch at this point tbh 😭
This was literally me at 1 in the morning LMAOOOOO
We all sit patiently and wait for Casper and Mortius’ reactions
the brilliance of her plan is that this bow isn't even particularly hard to draw except that none of the Suitors know the trick and she knows they don't know... and even if they did it would buy more time than it seems. oh it has a high draw weight but nothing any experienced archer would have any trouble drawing... the key though is that in order to string it at all much less draw it. you have to know how to treat the wood. and it is a very unique bow. you can't overpower it. you can't claim its power as your own without caring for it. gently lacquering it and treating it properly with the proper oils. applying more power is more likely to shatter it. spreading deadly splinters that kills the fool who tried or else do nothing at all to bend it. depending on how far they got before they got impatient. with how long it has been since the bows master has drawn it... they would have needed to slowly treat and flex it for days for a proper full power draw even if they could likely have strung it much sooner.
The bow in many ways is an analogy for her. by trying to claim her by force they are at best leaving her unbowed after 20 years. and at worst making her deadly and dangerous to each and every one of them. they may destory her but she will destroy them in turn
if they
"Hold her down while her gate is open
Hold her down while I get a taste
Hold her down while we share her spoils
I will not let any part go to waste"
they will all shortly die of poison... and a few might well get stabbed by a knife she has always carried for the last 20 years. dying in the very act of trying to claim her.... and she is more than willing to consume the poisen herself at a grand feast for the new king... the songs don't go into this... but yeah... the only way to have Penelope as your queen is to treat her right and well. to know her intimately and convince her to bend to your will... only then will her power be added to your own and will you be able to achive things no other king could dream of. the Odessey makes it clear that she is every bit her husbands match and equal. and that both of them experienced trials and monsters... and both are willing to sacrifice everyting to bring those monsters down. so long as they get to be together again... and should that prove impossible. those who robbed them will suffer and parish at thier hands.
[2:37 AM]
So.. is it just me?
I didn't think of that being the reason, though. That kinda sent a shiver down my spine. I won't lie 😭. Was low-key already a little terrified of Odysseus by the end of "Odysseus", but now even more so!
It’s definitely there I was listening to it with noise canceling earbuds in and immediately picked his voice out
He’s there, 100% also in the lyrics he’s listed as part of the ensemble lol.
Same bro. I think he’s like there while they’re plotting pretending to be a suitor
if u use headphones u should be able to hear him pretty clearly in ur left ear!
Oooo, you might not know but Penelope was giving the Suitors an impossible challenge.
Only Odysseus can string that bow, it’s magic and SUPER strong. And if they can’t string the bow then they can’t shoot an arrow through the axes. 😉
nope, it's not magic, it's simply that it required a certain technique
Shy Guy: Absolutely vibing his ass off to Hold Them Down

Odyseus basically became Kratos in his song, and I'm all here for it. Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves!
The switch up to 'Hold her down' is diabolical but it's my favorite song now.

I totally get what your saying, it’s like when your mom or grandma song you a lullaby as a child, it feels so gentle, attentive, soothing, understanding, loving and to me it feels so safe.
17:44 Antinous got shot in the head by Odysseus during the final moment of Hold Them Down that’s why he doesn’t appear in Odysseus
He got shot with the bow they wanted to string. Odysseus strung the bow during hold them down twice they were destracted.
I thought he was shot in the throat
@Coal_Clips yeah he was, but by odysseus with his bow.
The song “Odysseus” is basically Epic/The Odyssey’s Red Wedding and its glorious brutality that is totally justified imho.
THE SUITORS VOCALS WHOAAAAA
ANTINOUS’ VOICE OMG WOWWWWW
The ithica saga shattered, put back together, and then shattered every single listener all over again
He heard what they said because from my memory in the original story he was disguised as an old man and was able to string his bow. So yeah he heard all of that. I think when he did the arrow trick he changed back to himself but older.
15:01 this is just talking about the early books(chapters) of the odyssey where telemachus is touring around sparta and another country (cant remember the name) talking to Menelaus and Nestor who were central characters of the iliad and allies of odysseus, asking about where they last saw him
Oh no HOld them down is an Impressive evil song. I love the villan song. he is talking about horrifying things. but the song is fire.
At about 17:32 you can hear Ody fire his bow when Antinous says soul for the last time. Just some extra context
I love how in Odysseus ( I think I’m not sure ) one of the suitors try to convince ody to spare him by saying “let’s have open arms instead “because it creates it creates the thought that he is unknowingly disrespecting Polites (best MORTAL boy) and that led to ody killing him in such a brutal way
When you were talking about *waiting~* he was in the underworld but his mom die and she sang that before she died😢😢😢
I'm still disappointed Ody didn't say "Well that was my journey. I got home, saved my son, killed all the bad guys and got my girl back. Thanks for listening to my story"
I think he was joking 😭

Tears in my Ithacan eyes 😭
I love the chanting of polyphemus's name in the background of Odysseus, pretty much stating that he's deadlier than the monster that started it all
oh no, they're chanting Odysseus (in its native pronunciation) (Odaesseoos, or something like that lol)
in teh book, oddy was there when the challenge was set! he was disgusted as a old begger! the suitors had no clue who he was at all! so he was waiting for the time to strike preparing. best bbit is I doubt anyone would challenge Penelope with her being a spartan princess.
Little info dump because the odyssey and Greek mythos was my special interest in school:
Odysseus actually saw his loyal hunting dog Argos when he’d arrived in Ithaca, but being in disguise, he was unable to greet his loyal dog.
I love your reaction so much! This is my favorite saga, I love ever song just like Wisdom saga. I can't wait for the animatics and the livestream!
Regarding the waiting part, it was when he saw his mother in the underworld. His mother was singing "waiting"
I had to pause so many times because of emotions! Like hypness, rage, love, are all overwhelming me during this final saga!
Unironically might be one of my favorite songs of the musical. That and Odysseus
So glad someon else brought up how it connects to scylla, after all according to scylla she and Ody are the same
“…Let’s have open arms instead!”
Ody: “No.” 😈 💅
the slayed every suitor. As a king should.
A lot of the people making connections between the Monsters Ody has faced and Odysseus himself are missing one of my favorite connections. In "Odysseus", the rapid shooting of arrows is a direct mirror of Polyphemus killing his men with a club in "Survive".
During the last part of Hold Them Down you can hear Ody chanting along the suitors in his disguise
In “Odyssey” did you hear Athena’s theme? Seems like she was helping Telemachus.
8:28 Well Ody being like 1\4 god make it he’s so powerful only he can string the bow and even if someone manages to string the bow the archery challenge shooting through the loops of 12 axes handles perfectly is also difficult
1/8 actually. Hermes is his great grandfather, hence why he offers so much help
@ I knew Hermes was his great grandfather I just couldn’t remember if that made him 1/4 or 1/8
Oddie is just a Greek John Wick
the arrows as he approaches them after they capture the prince reminds me a lot of the cyclops’ club during “survive”
also the choir mimics Polyphemus' choir!
@ true that, honestly haven’t listened to it since its release but that’s awesome to know 🙌🏽
YEAHH I REALLY LOVE THE LAST SAGA and now i'll watch your reaction lol i really enjoy watching your reactions and analysis
Based on what i read, The bow that Penelope used in the challenge is Owned by Ody and is enchanted (??) or something making it impossible to be strung, and only Ody can do it. 🤔
it was a gift to Ody and yes only he can string it
I think it was more just really really difficult, like 500lb draw weight
@@Rizzhardt69TV oohhh got it! Thank u for clarifying!! 😯💜✨
The big theory is that it’s a recurve bow, which are super strong and have a strange stringing technique.
@@Politesbrokenglasses here's an extra fun fact for you about the bow 😂 the bow originally belonged to Hercules so Ody pretty much has Herculean level strength

It is a banger 🔥
All monster songs are named after the monster he became a monster so the song it called Odysseus

As disgusting as antinous his words are, ayron slayed that vocal I'm not ok
The waiittttiiiinnnng got me so hard they hooked my heart so bad
The suitors kinda sound like the sirens at the beginning of Suffering
Sad EPIC has ended, but glad it led me to you! Merry Christmas, Shy!
22:09 THIS REACTION IS SO REAL. LITERALLY ME.
no no like, Hold Them Down slap soooo hard, one of my favorite for sure, event when it gets so vile at the end asdfghjkl
His reaction was perfect you can see how the music would effect his emotions which is just shows how good Jorge is
2:28 if you want more Jorge, he has another musical named My Heart Says Go that he made in college…definitely recommend!!
It was so hard fot me to identify when Mico is singing, his voice is so similar to Jorge's voice 😅
When the snippets came out, I thought the “Storm” she was talking about was the storm from Ocean Saga when Eurylochus opened the bag, but apparently now we know that the storm she's talking about is the one from Vengeance Saga
20:52: depending on how you interpret it, there's going to be 3 headcanons for me:
1. Iliad Headcanon: Anyone who was left behind in Ithaca was either too old to fight in the Trojan war and therefore probably dead by this timeline, of too young, but now old enough to be a suitor or a warrior.
Guards aren't exactly in on the suitors' plans, but they're basically Stormtroopers
2. Xenia Headcanon: Guards are legally not allowed to hurt guests because there's a slim chance the guests are disguised as gods, so no matter how rude they are, they're legally not allowed to inflict damage unless they're the head of household (in this case the real King)
26:20-26:41 ish
i was crying while listening to ALL OF THE SONGS, im so happy Ody's journey ended but also so sad Epic the Musical came to an end
Fucking soulmates!!! I was fighting tears through the last song holy fuck!!! Jorge and everyone involved in this amazing and EPIC MUSICAL did such a fucking awesome job!!!
Thanks for sharing your journey it’s been amazing

18:40 FINALY, I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE
I want it to be a show too! He could add the cut songs back to it, and really expand on the story. I agree that every saga should be a season, he could possibly have 1 or 2 songs per episode, and it would give us time to really bond with characters like Polites, spend more time on Circe's island (he was there a year right?)... I really feel like a show would add more to experience vs a movie
I’m glad you’re gonna come back for the animatics because I need your reaction too the visuals
This is the darkest saga hands down. This saga makes me bawl with both good and bad tears omg
I love your channel and reactions so much!! 💗💗
that first line of Odysseus is him announcing himself its is fair to say they know who he is.
About Hold Them Down, don't worry, that was just their plan. Ody stopped them before they could even put their plan to action
