Flamenco music (and probably dance) has the Arab influence from the many Moors in Spain, before they were thrown out. This is why it's so different from other European music

It depends if the hands are turning inwards or outwards. She showed both ways. I'm a former student of hers when she taught in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. A great, dedicated dancer and teacher, she has sadly passed away.
