Ranking EVERY Boss Fight in Super Mario 64

- Ever since the very beginning of the Mario series boss fights have been an essential part of the games. While the 2D ones are often on the weaker end, the 3D games seem to generally get fairly good bosses as seen in games like Super Mario Odyssey. So that made me want to look back and see where 3D Mario bosses got their start in Super Mario 64! So today I’m going to be ranking all 15 boss fights in Super Mario 64!

I really didn't like the inverted controls gimmick that it had, it really made the boss fight more tedius and annoying than challenging.
I love how it takes place in Waluigi Pinball too 😁

You may not like the Galaxy games, but you have to admit the updated Whomp King fight in Galaxy 2 is pretty great

Mario 64's bosses hold up surprisingly well, some bosses like eyerok have even inspired an entire genre of boss, they all have super unique methods of defeat with makes each of them feel very memorable

The bosses in 3D Mario games have always been pretty damn fun, even though some games control not great then others, excluding 3D Land every game comes with new bosses where you dont always jump on their heads but also like make them hit themselves or wait for the perfect timing

Eyerock is one of the strangest bosses in the series, mostly because it’s an entity hiding in a void room accessed through a tube in a pyramid. I still like it though. Chill Bully is a bit underrated but could’ve been used a bit better. King Bob Omb and King Whomp are still the best for their iconic simplicity. The DS version had a lot of great bosses too.

Fun fact: on the first 2 bowser fights, if you suck at aiming it, you can just toss him off 3 times and he’ll go down. But on rainbowser, you don’t get that leeway. You *HAVE* to hit the bombs.
I like the wiggler boss the most tbh 😭
I’d say the giant Piranha Plants are not bosses, because only one awards a star, not each of the five, and which one it is isn’t the same each time, it’s always the last one. So you can’t say that any individual plant holds a star, therefore, you can’t say that any individual plant is a boss.
Mario can beat 64 Bowser all he wants, but Cool Bowser's rizz is too powerful to be defeated

What did you do to him?
IMO, this game has many things that could be considered as bosses: Chain Chomp, Koopa the Quick, maybe Hoot, Unagi, the racer penguin, maybe Dorrie, Klepto, the mantaray, maybe the other penguin walking on the snowman, Ukiki, Koopa the Quick (again), and maybe the Lakitu on the floating ship. But I have no idea what could be considered as a boss on Wet-Dry World...
Since you refuse to say anything good about the Galaxy games, here's what I consider the best and worst from both games
Best-
Galaxy 1; Final Bowser
Galaxy 2; Boomsday Machine
Worst-
Galaxy 1; Fiery Dino Piranha
Galaxy 2; Fiery Gobblegut

My favorites are Bowser in Koopa Clown Car (Super Mario World), Giant Baby Bowser (Yoshi's Island), Final Bowser (Super Mario Galaxy), Final Bowser (SM64/SM64DS), Castle Bowser, Giant Bowser (New Super Mario Bros Wii), Real Bowser (Super Mario 3D Land), Fury Bowser, and Dark Bowser (Mario&Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story).
While my least favorites would be the Fake Bowsers from World 2 to World 7 in SMB1, Bowser in the Bathtub (Super Mario Sunshine), Giant Bowser (New Super Mario Bros. 2), Shrowser (pointless; Elder Princess Shroob is the proper final boss), Giant Baby & Adult Bowser (New Yoshi's Island), Baby Bowser (Yoshi's Story), and Mario's Time Machine NES.
Also, while the music for Bowser's final phase in Galaxy 2 is epic, the fight is way too easy. As for Bowser/Mecha Bowser from Mario Kart Arcade GP 2, he/it is meh.
Also, can I say MS-DOS Bowser from Mario is Missing is easily the worst Bowser sprite?
My guess for worst would be klepto, if you count him. Just run into him and you get the star

When I was a kid I had no idea how to beat King Bob Omb bc I kept throwing him off the cliff and then he'd jump up and say I broke the rules. And i was like "if he wont die from that how do I do this? I cant just throw him on the ground if he didn't die from the cliff!"

You should rank all 2d mario bosses after the level ranking. It just feels right.
The worst ones are nearly all of Wonder's bosses, Fake Bowsers from World 2 to World 7 in SMB1, Baby Bowser (Yoshi's Story), Giant Baby Bowser + Giant Adult Bowser (New Yoshi's Island), Reznor (New Super Mario Bros 2), Giant Bowser (New Super Mario Bros 2), Fry Guy, Giant Goomba, and Boom Boom (New Super Mario Bros U).
While the greatest are Giant Baby Bowser (Yoshi's Island), Bowser in Koopa Clown Car (Super Mario World), Castle Bowser, Bowser + Bowser Jr. (New Super Mario Bros DS), Giant Bowser (New Super Mario Bros Wii), Bowser Jr (New Super Mario Bros U), Hookbill the Koopa, Raphael the Raven, and Naval Piranha.
Can you do a ranking on all the overworld theme in Mario 64: bob omb battlefield, whomps fortress, tall tall mountain and tiny huge island
1:46 Makes this my favorite bully variant imo. Running up and sliding him off the floor is my favorite thing to do in this level, i think its funny.
Also using a obscure strategy to skip a semi fight is a design choice very common in modern games like odyssey and this seems like the pioneer of the philosophy. Not a great fight but i can still somewhat appreciate it.
Based top 2 tbh, truly the best ones in the game.

Eyerock is especially cool to me since I first found him in mario kart ds's mission mode as a kid, which in turn made me go back to mario 64 ds to find him in shifting sand land. It was a really cool moment back when I was playing ds games as a kid. It also helps that eyerock is a pretty fun boss fight.

Beleive it or not, all you need to do for bowser is touch his tail, get into his hitbox and punch to grab him. you do have to face the way bowser is facing to do it though.
