- The water flooding the street and the drain were separated by a mound of ice. Watch the ice get chipped away and rejoice at the oddly satisfying result.

Good job! I do same kind of jobs here where I live and just a small tip for next time: If you soften the snow/ice with the water it is easier to chop.
Post 10 uses an ax. And he would have done the same thing on the sides of the drain. This was still good. I’m sure your work was vert much appreciated.

I like how you can see a fish in the cover’s grate design.
It’s to signify that the water goes straight to the lakes without cleaning.

I guess this method works better for video, but I never cut all the ice like that, I cut a tiny slit just barely deep enough for a trickle of water to flow and it will dig itself out over the course of a day.

They way you guys were chipping away it was like you're making an ice sculpture or something. Use the scrapper hard and when the water flows pop the shovel under the edges of the ice and make the path bigger.

If all that water in the street re-froze during the night when the temperature went down again, passing vehicles might have unexpectedly skidded there.

avec une béche, j'ai seul travailler en soirée à enlever la glace de la départementale proche de chez moi. Le sol était froid, il avit néger, les voitures ont écraser cette neige qui cest transformée en glace compact... La rue était un tout petit peu en pente montante... Résultat, quand le feu de l'intersection situé en haut de la petite pente était rouge; seules les 2 premiers voitures pouvais y monter car avait la longeur pour pouvoir avoir une certaine vitesse primaire; Mais la file dattente ce créant dans la pente, les voitures derrieres arrivait plus a monter et glissais tout simplement.. Je me suis habiller comme à mon travail sur les chantiers (en orange, chaussure de sécurité gants) et j'ai parcouru le kilometre a pied avec ma béche sur mon épaule.. Jai passer une bonne heure a creuser des bandes perpenticulaire à la chaussée afin de permetre aux vehicules d'avoir une actoche, peu etre pas sur toute la longeur mais suffisament pour pouvoir démarer de l'importe où.
Les services de la mairie ne sont meme pas venu,, alors que c'est simplement le carrefour le plus important de toute ma ville, avec ses deux départementales qui se croisent.... Tres peu de gent ont la bonté de faire des choses gratuites pour autrui,, et tres peu de gents comprennent ce que tu fait quand tu les aides.. ^^ mais bon, ma satisfaction était motivée par ne plus voir l'ambouteillage sur la départemental en dessous de mon balcon,, :) J'ai envoyer chier ma mairie quand elle a communiquer sur ses actions salutaires qu'elles faisait pour cette période de froid ! non mais, ils ont quasiment rien glander !
Bien fait! Les chauffeurs ont dû apprécier ça. J'ai parfois glissé dans les côtes et c'est assez énervant aller de reculons sans le vouloir.
