- Lorraine Downes was an ordinary teenager from Pakuranga - until she was crowned the most beautiful woman in the world.
Our only Miss Universe, she was catapulted into a glamorous fairytale that she could never have dreamed of.
But her biggest challenges were yet to come - most recently, losing her soulmate - cricketer Martin Crowe.
This week, Lorraine bares all in her first interview since Martin's death. A SUNDAY exclusive.
She's a wonderful woman, as she is just so genuine. My grandmother was from New Zealand, and at one point lived just down the road from her family

She’s still very beautiful up to this day!
She came to my high school (Palm Springs High School) my freshman year. I saw her and she was incredibly graciously. She told me to never give up on my dreams. She liked our city because, as she said, it reminded her of her small hometown in New Zealand.
