glad i caught you here as i prepare for my brake job in 2-3 hours this morning. Where you think the grease/lube goes? pins? pad backing? metal hardware sliders? i have my own thoughts, but getting opinions.
My favorite start of the weekend, watching new mod announcements on Friday evening! Sweet rotors, love the all black painted metal, should also keep them rust free. Unlike the OEM that tend to rust - specifically - very badly in the rear. Looking forward to the install brozher Mark. Ps: Insta-what? Never heard of, guess I am too old too ;-)
oh, it was friday for you? OHH you mean you WATCHED it on Friday.. as soon as i get home in an hour ill be starting my front brake job. I cant resist. then its gonna be a boring weekend with nothing else to do. I watch my revenue drop in half when im not actively releasing videos every couple days.
@@LastHumansGarage I think the video hits around my Friday morning. So have to wait until my home office tour of duty is completed, so by then it will be Friday evening.. It's perfect for me :-)
I'm about to install rotors and pads. I got plain Centric 125 rotors and Power Stop Z23 pads. Now if I can just get the wife to carry the front PP rotors down to the garage for me I can get started. They are heavy!
I talked to Stop tech for my subie when I did my car, R is pass side L is drivers you will also notice the surfaces of the rotor rust much faster after a car wash if u let the car sit for a few hours.
yes, you want the slots to scrape the junk off the pads. so you want them interrupting, not cooperating. So the slots go from high to low rather than low to high in the direction of movement. ah im not worried about the rust that scrapes off w 1 press of the brakes.
weird on these Tbone. I dont hear the slotted noises really. which is fine w me, either way. i havent bed them yet. the bedding on the box was MUCH milder than what i usually do. they say a few very hard back to back stops from 40 - 10... i usually do 60-70mph to 10... lol.. which is right..... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
@@LastHumansGarage did the same thing with the stop tech pads that you did, When I talk to the engineer stock tech he told me do this from time to time because normal driving you will lose the transfer film from the pads onto the rotors and later on Mark you will get that noise you’re talking about under Super hard braking!
In my mind wheel hop is caused by the drivetrain moving back and forth because of the slop that the mount takes up. Tires should not cure that. Leave the damn mountain in, don't start cutting it up you already did that and you still didn't like it.
@@LastHumansGarage kind of weird. I probably had five different mounts and every single one settled down after a little while. But it is kind of an opinion based thing. The vibration never bothered me. Everybody's different
@@LastHumansGarage yeah theoretically I could see that and believe that.... But it's quite the investment for somebody that's so picky about vibration. I should have messaged you when I was in town last week so I could have taken a ride and feel what you're talking about.
Good one! Dig the car washing music - punk!! I have those pads on a vehicle in my fleet, v. good/low dust street pads. Traction is tires, hop is mounts/insert and in the end, it's a fwd car with a lot of power and you just have to live with the physics of it. No amount of inserts/tires will make it awd. What about trying the popular BFI Stage 1 insert?
@@LastHumansGarage any of them that go up far into the insert will do that, soft rubber or not. The metal ones that are bottom only (I have one) work well enough but as I'm sure you've seen in the 034 video about using their upper, only a lower with fwd and high power can cause drama.
@@karstgeo7290 as u prob recall, i had an 034 insert once. it was pretty good, but ya, i didnt like the way it was rubber banding since it didnt have the upper secured.
Slots don't do anything about your pads off-gassing, mainly because modern pads don't off-gas anymore. The only thing slots are good for is cleaning glazed over pad material away to expose fresh pad material when you're getting them hot on a track. On the street they're only good for chewing through your pads faster.
the insert for me cures the slop in the shifting/tranny. You're certainly going to spin less with the new tires but not sure I'd consider that a reason to pull that mount. I do not believe that mount prevents or lessens wheel hop. You're still going to get wheel hop in the right combinations of conditions (road surface, etc.). Also, here in the arm pit of the south in the middle of SC, my car has been coated yellow with pollen for the last few weeks.
In theory the big (optional) brembo brakes from a Cupra would fit this MQB platform plug and play. But the parts will be more expensive than aftermarket BBC (big brake components). But they would look pretty awesome! I am a total sucker for OEM+(+)
This is how LHG rolls Mike.. I am still on my original rotors AND pads, and I have done almost 100,000 kilometers (62,000 miles) and they still have some good life in them! I guess I don't brake much... LOL

Not to mention no hood hydraulic lift, noname engine cover and better don't get me started on it.. Actually with the 7.5 you can already start to notice the cost cutting, like no more covers for the door hangers and so on. If you don't own a Mk7.0, you would not notice it as a Mk7.5 owner. I had bad hyprochondirac and thought i was dying for years, and had constant worry. I tried a lot of SSRI's and im still on a very tiny dose actually.
