    Which should you buy? The $1500 SIRUI Anamorphic beast of a lens? or a $60 (roughly) vintage lens? In this video, I answer that question!

    Many people who are captured by the beauty of anamorphic lenses don't realize it has a classic use case and run and gun isn't it.

      Yep! It was really inconvenient to use run and gun.

    We are absolutely SPOILED by the fact that they mass produced these lenses. They are amazing, and dirt cheap due to there being so many of them.
    I love my Helios!

    NIce video. Q: are there always converters for old lenses??? I have a basic set and yes would like to have some more exteme wide angel ..... 🙂 using a sony FX30

      That's a great question! All I did was search for the m42 to Sony E mount adapter on Amazon and bought it. The trick is finding out what the old mount is and buying that adapter. I've heard that wide lenses don't play super nice with new cameras, but might be worth a shot!

    I own both sirui and helios, and still prefer sirui, but I agree for the stretch factor, it doesn't cater to all our clients who don't want crop marks.
    Regarding close focusing, I have got diopters and problem is solved

      When I owned the Sirui I had diopters too. They worked great, but it was just one more thing to change out/worry about during a shoot. Especially where something like a wedding is so run and gun, I didn't want to worry about that.

    what makes you like that particular bokeh shape?

    • @donovankean
      @donovankean  Рік тому

      Modern glass strives for perfect bokeh. Which is great! I like my modern lenses that have few ler imperfections. However there's a charm to the imperfect bokeh and character of vintage glass. The imperfections become beautiful, in a way.
