Trucker protests: Protesters vow to protect National War Memorial in Ottawa after removal of fencing

- Purported veterans and supporters of the so-called "Freedom convoy" removed fencing protecting the National War Memorial in Ottawa on Saturday.
The fence was erected after multiple incidents were reported in the early days of the demonstration, including urination being found at the site, and at least one person seen dancing on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
A police officer can be seen telling the demonstrators they would be responsible for taking care of the memorial, according to Global News' Abigail Bimman, who was on the ground at the time. Police only moved in once the fence was already down, and cries of "freedom" could be heard from protesters who quickly gathered around the site.

No. These people are not about freedom. If it was would they blockade borders from supplies, products and goods reaching Canadian families, communities, and businesses. Our governments had already started easing restrictions before the protesters even reached Ottawa This isn't a protest, this is them occupying and working against the charter of rights for their fellow Canadians to push what want. The vaccines are just an immunization against a very severe disease. I know only a few people who became ill, we had strict. Corona measurements for almost two years now, from lockdowns to schools shut, to masks in the streets of the city even. In between we had months almost no measurements because the disease was under control. So I know only very few people getting ill. First case a young father and his daughter shortly before vaccines were available. Both were very ill, but both are healthy again, they were unvaccinated, but have both taken vaccines two times since then to avoid to get that sick again. They are both well. One man in the neighborhood is a vaccine denier, he got ill with Corona, is so to say healthy again, but he is still not able to even go the stairs up, so out of breathe. he still is against vaccines, but I think his live is ruined because of Corona, he is chronically ill now, unfit and an angry person. Then my best friend. She and her husband love to travel. Meet friends, party. They followed the lockdown rules and stayed home, no restaurant visits. Then they received the first vaccine and the second months later. Her old mother and her husband had no side effects. My friend had no side affects with the first shot, she was very ill for about five days after the second shot, like she had the flu. Then she was healthy again. She went on a holiday and a ship cruise. She became Corona positive. She became symptoms like a cold, nothing much, became healthy. She then took the booster shot with no side effects and she feels good and healthy. Because getting Corona once she so far did not travel again, rather goes for a walk in the nature. That are all people I know who had Corona so far. Millions of people have died worldwide. I am thankful scientists developed those very good vaccines. I have had two times Biontech and the booster shot Moderna, I have felt nothing, it was like with every other vaccination I received in my life.

So proud of those veterans. Retaining access to the memorial is important. Convoy pro and against, no veteran should ever be denied access to that statue nor should they great defacement. That's an unbreakable law that should fly above all politics IMO.

Never deny the Veterans access to their memorial. My deepest respect to them. Courage, strength and resolve they were showing solidarity with the protesters almost to say to the government and police we fought for freedoms and will not allow this monuments to be blocked off from the people we fought to give freedoms to. The Government needs to unite all of Canada and stop being divisive.

Don't blockade the Super Bowl. It is an unofficial holiday in this country. The convoy needs to go straight to Washington DC and to the front gate of the White House. You have to be wise about this to not alienate people who might support the movement. Let the Super Bowl be as it should. Americans honestly will be more fired up for a fight after the game.

I like it how the cops actually talk to the veterans instead of the cops telling the veterans what the government's going to do. I am a Canadian who has spent much of the last 2 years in Florida ashamed of our government, the past 3 weeks have been the most inspiring 3 weeks of my life...flew back to Toronto Wednesday night and $12,000 in fines later I was back home...went to Ottawa Friday and was not prepared for what I experienced there this weekend... I have never been more proud to be a Canadian, the love there between everyone from all parts of our country from all walks of life was overwhelming at times...I have never hugged so many dudes in my life... The veterans of our country have sacrificed so much for us all to be free.. it is all Canadians duty to stand up with the truckers and our veterans and take back our country.... Everyone needs to travel to Ottawa and experience what being a Canadian is all about...

Exactly! It never was so cleared of snow and full of very proud Canadians waving flags. Thank you veterans and truckers it was one of the happiest day of my life. Everybody was smiling and happy to be there.
